| ... are even more expensive than in the US... Vitra's licensed reproduction is available, but it is expensive and the options to customize the design is not there. There are only two models to choose from... There is probably no chance that I could afford to go for vintage in this case, no matter how much I'd like to. I have made some pretty good deals on good examples of the Zenith chairs, but these are simple to find and easy to ship from the US. The ESU' are a different deal. I was close to getting a good deal on some 1st production ESU's in a Florida auctio ... | |||||

| good find, right price ok, so this wasn't all that recent, but it's a good, true story from about three years ago. i was on my way to an evening class at a local university when i spotted a pair of plattner lounge chairs on someone's tree lawn ready for trash pickup. at the time i didn't know anything about these chairs or plattner himself, but i could tell there was something obviously unique enough about these chairs that would warrant their becoming my acquisition and my doing some research. since they had the original knoll tags on them with a mfg. date ... | |||||

| which brings me to this Where exactly did this "mod" title come into play.? It would seem it's simply a nickname for modern (as in architecture + design) but it seems to be a false assumption. I mean, do you really think that Pete Townsend or Ray Davies gave a damn about Craig Elwood and Richard Neutra? I don't think so, plus didn't this title popularize in the 60s when modern design had not only already been established in popular culture ... but had begun to be moved passed into the realm of postmodernism? Where did the bulls-eye wearing, moptop adorned ve ... | |||||

| Don't get confused!! Hello please don't get singer furniture of Canada confused with M. Singer & Sons of Newyork.Firstly; M Singer & Sons made furniture of the highest quality ,and alot of it was designed by the likes of Carlo Mollino ,Gio Ponti ,Bertha Schaefer ,and Carlo di Carli. On the other hand Singer furniture of Montreal was a totally different company ,and really didn't have any high end pieces. There stuff isn't designer ,and is more retro kitsch than anything.Although; I have seen a nice rosewood sofa made by that company. | |||||

| By the way... I have a set of those bookends too in black. They look really cool regardless of the designer. My cat actually knocked one of the shelf the other day, and it put a nice little dent in the hardwood floor. The bookend didn't even have a scratch 😀 | |||||
| Were they sold... | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | Cloudburst2000 | General discussion | |
| Were they sold... through George Nelson's company though? I was under the impression from my research that Nelson didn't 'design' all the works that have been sold under his name. I've read in more than one place that one of his designers Irving Harper actually desinged both the marshmallow sofa and the ball clock...two of George Nelson's iconic pieces. Still love Nelson to bits, but just because someone name is attached to it doesn't mean they did the actual design of it. | |||||

| I've read that he was the desinger for several George Nelson clocks...which ones outside of the ball clock I'm not sure. He also created the Herman Miller logo(just a little factoid of interest). I've read that Nelson did not mind if the actual desinger got credit in trade publications, but to the general public he wanted all the works to be attributed to the company name. And Harper apparently wasn't that much into the limelight anyway so he didn't really have much a problem with it. I actually have a quote from Nelson about the origins of the ball clock ... | |||||

| . Just in case ModernClassicsCowhideRugs, or anyone else didn,t know, I live in Buenos Aires. So although I could see how things are here, That is the way I see them, and been so near, one could loose a bit of ,perspective,. I asked ,,Why Argentine and not China?,, because: Before devaluation(2001) that have been a ridiculous question, (and it could be for many today). Chinese products were synonymous of bad quality. Or cheap and bad quality. Not comparable to many local manufactures. But things changed so much with devaluation???? (that was one of those ... | |||||

I think you also listed an armshell with the arms in yellow vinyl and the seat/back in blue vinyl. Very cool. But at the time I didn't have enough experience on eBay to dare buying from the US. Though I've actually never forgotten those two chairs, they looked so fresh 🙂 | |||||

| really? I've tried it a bit... really? I've tried it a bit and that foaming really pisses me off and I tried it on some oily timber and it just didn't stick. didn't you get foam nastiness all over your bag? I have found using thin plies, face quality throughout and a flexible urea formaldehyde (low form. content) gives me virtually no springback and a 10mm thick shell which can take 160kg standing and bouncing on it, (my father and I). I press at 29hg in an old water bed bag, they're cheap and strong. I'd suggest going to someone with a vacuum press DC, if y ... | |||||

| The Farnsworth house is only ... The Farnsworth house is only an hour from my Chicago home. I recall driving there around 10 years ago to try and see damage from a then recent River basin flood. Unfortunately, your eyewitnesses are the defendants. It's unfortunate that you didn't record your conversations. I really hope you're going to pursue this matter.
