| Dear Olive: I wanted to comment you something since some months ago(by mail), and I thought that asking here It could the best place. I didn,t know if to do it or not now, (may be was too late) but re-reading some of the above,s comments (specially Koen,s one) I thought that the spirit of what I want to say fitted with that and supported it. So I funded this, the best available tool at my hands to fix the misunderstanding. I feel this site like a family (as cousin Vivienne said), and although we could have a disconnection with our relatives sometimes, I don, ... | |||||

| ... this sound nice?, but the concept and my intention was the opposite. I agree with you both, in almost everything you said. THE MISUNDERSATNDING was: You said: The Maven Traps are intended to create brand loyalty NO, that was the BIG MISTAKE: Brand loyalty it,s one concept, very established, Maven trap it,s something very different, and very new to me, (at least the concept). (May be you understated that because the link that I used, used examples of 1 -800 numbers and Milk Helpline. (So you provably linked it with ,,brand royality,,)). Well, in the book, h ... | |||||

| ONE manifesto by EACH contributor | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | Gustavo | General discussion | |
| ONE manifesto by EACH contributor Make only ONE manifesto-design philosophy it could be too difficult to join all the ideas. We could do the same, introduce our "personal" manifesto. One for each. And join all the manifestos then. P.S: I didn't wanted to read the 50 icon's manifestos, because I didn't wanted to be influenced. I diD, but I wasn't influenced!. So don't worry, I know that many of your manifestos would be much better. (But I promise to change mine with the influence of yours). P.S 2: Well, if I have to start, and have to be the first that must ... | |||||

| Indeed. Thanks for the hint. This is nice work. Anybody who wanted a hanging orb light fixture but didn't care for or grew tired of a Nelson bubble would perhaps enjoy one of Mr Trubridge's lacy wood globes. . .and the seatng pieces are cool. I wonder what a "Canoe" chair looks like ? | |||||

| ... threads that soon will loose the first place thanks to the 199 Eames chair threads), Once upon a time there was a forum in which each thread was consider like an "open unfinished bible", people used ONE thread for ONE subject for years. I consider that some threads are ALIVE (but sleeping). Today it's seems to be that once we open a new thread we kill a bit the older competitor thread. Somewhere in this forum we can read that "older contributors" said (three or four times): ""If I/you have nothing good to say, say nothing"". (And that's why I don't post ... | |||||

| Hi all I thought about why... Hi all I thought about why they could be closing such a store front, in the city that claims to be the birthplace of modern, and had a couple of theories. One is that the cheap knockoff stuff from China, was digging into sales of the higher quality stuff Modernica puts out. I see more MCM things in every movie and commercial these days. Maybe its gone so mainstream, that the competition is ramping up? So maybe its the Wallmart factor, where cheap wins out. Then someone else told me that DWR took a bite of their market, as the ... | |||||

| Hi all Bubble lamps were... Hi all Bubble lamps were 50 percent off! At least the stores display unit was. I got the 420 storage unit for 900 after taxes. They were also discounting books around 25 percent or so. I saw several bases and a pile of arm shell chairs available, but didn't price them. Many of the bases I saw were marked sold. There were outdoor seating pieces unsold, split rail chairs (like the parallel bar from Knoll), slice chairs, and other goodies too numerous to mention. There was a lot of activity, lots of items marked sold, and some items ... | |||||

| well... seems that bisexual doors are more interesting. It's just that I noticed that even during summer, even with the AC on all day, those doors stay open - swung outward - on almost all the stores I pass. I didn't know if it was something that store designers learned in school (something to do with hospitality perhaps?), or that just like houses, the designers of retail spaces are lemmings. While I suspect it has something to do with code (which the bisexual door should take care of), and suspect that there are restrictions as to how far a door can open ... | |||||

| Speaking of street of dreams I thought Lexicon was an avenue in New York....not wait; it was Lexington Avenue....or in the film "Desk Set", a slightly drunk Joan Blondell refers to the bus along Lexington as the "Mexican Avenue bus" and Katharine Hepburn laughs and asks if she didn't the "Mexlington Avenue bus"! | Wow, Jesgord Thanx a lot for your helpful information! It's strange that both Raymor and Stiffel distributed some of the most outragiously advanced designs from Italy, Germany, Sweden and Norway during the most classic era of European modern designs, yet not much is written about them. It's not that they didn't design or make these treasures, but they had the brilliance to distribute this stuff to us in the US. THAT makes 'em important. | |||||

| red chair fade away It's actually kinda of nice to see. I know if I saw a chair like that in an ad and didn't know what it was or where to find one, it would frustrate the hell out of me and probably become a lifelong quest to identify and locate the damned thing. Actually, this kind of thing does happen to me, quite often. | |||||

| ... had though!!!! I loved all of it including the beautiful blond wood Heywood Wakefield living and dining room, the later I am begging my sister-in-law never to get rid of as she and my brother have taken over the home! I do like the idea of bubble type lamps (even though I had a plexiglass green one over our kitchen table with green tulip Naugahide chairs and a WHITE ROUND Formica Table). I am supposing that is why I bought my house - the retro (albiet '80s) style kitchen. Problem is when we go so sell this house, most will wonder why the heck we didn't con ... | |||||

| hey there, Thank you for the ... hey there, Thank you for the link to the new Porsche Panamera. That is indeed my first glance one, as I didn't make it to last years Chicago auto show. But at a glance...it appears that someone just added a couple of doors to a 911. I'll have to wait and see one in the flesh. Back in 1993 I waited 10 months for a new 500e Mercedes, as it was a joint build venture between Porsche (at the time their only sedan DNA) and MB. Great car in its day, but would be considered underpowered and under engineered by todays standards. ... | |||||

| Cool...thanks I didn't know that there was a problem with Artek in Finland. All I know is that in the US, when one thinks of classic modern, one usually excludes Aalto. Probably because for years (like Cassina), they were rather difficult to obtain and they didn't promote themselves very well. A couple of years ago, Herman Miller signed a deal to distribute selected Aalto Artek pieces, but not the whole line (most of the big items, the Zebra Chair, Paimio chair, the stools, etc.) Most of the standard Herman Miller website e-tailers didn't show the Aalto/Art ... | |||||
