| I love comparison photos, so here are some more. First is the real thing from Knoll's site. The second two, well... (The most obvious and glaring thing to me is the way the cushions don't fit. Well, that and the width of the greenish chair overall. WTF?!) | |||||

| Would consider selling... Would consider selling either of these for the right price. Located in Michigan. 1. Huge and heavy Pierre Cardin Coffee Table- has great investment potential 2. Warren Platner Coffee Table, marble top 3. Zaruch (England) Chrome Coffee table - actually have two of these. 4. Noguchi IN-50 Birch, Green Glass, curvy edge 5. Eames CTW, New in box, never assembled. 6. Milo Baughman Rosewood Table/Bench. Newly refinished top. 7. Noguchi style coffee table, chrome base. Purchased from Scandanavian design, Chicago in mid 70's. Probably PACE. Not pictured. Prices? I'm not a dealer, just a guy that has aquired too much. I watch 1stdibs, wright20 and ebay prices. I would entertain offers. http://www.flickr.com/gp/11003012@N02/TGp4gE | |||||

| More Pics... Here's some more shots guys. Ultimately I want to make sure it's a legitimate base. By the weight and feel of this thing it seems that way. You can barely budge the thing. Thanks again for all your input. Keep it coming. | |||||

| So you may have seen a post... So you may have seen a post a recently from me about a sofa I aquired. I found it is a Steelcase sofa. It is a Florence Knoll knockoff. Although I usually hate knockoffs this one is very comfy and vintage and has the nice tufted squares stitched in the fabric ... more interesting to me than the plain loose cushions. Now I have too many sofas! For some reason I am still having trouble parting with my eames .... although I could sell it to purchase some sort of lounge chair and ottoman. I feel bad owning a knock off but this sofa actually fits my requirements a lot better. I have seen Steelcase sofas on modern auction sites .... was there any designer there or was it simply a knockoff? The idea of getting a lounge chair and using this more comfortable sofa seems tempting .... but selling my eames would also be a sad day. I still feel I am getting rid of an 'eames' for a knock off. | |||||

| Believe me, I love my fake... Believe me, I love my fake plants too, I finally killed my only real plant. I have some lovely plastic flowers in my long black ceramic panther planter/tv light, and I'm not being sarcastic when I say so. If anybody wants to evaluate any thing, they can start by seeing the form of the thing, what the thing's made of and how it's put together. If you don't know how to compare things, start LOOKING at things, and thinking about it. You don't need a label to see if something is designed/constructed reasonably well. resale not retail for me- | |||||

| For larger objects, I have a... For larger objects, I have a cheap plastic clothes hanger rack thing from Target or someplace like that. I tape 30" wide white wrapping paper to the top bar and roll it down and out onto the floor. If any clutter in the background isn't blocked out, I can usually photoshop it away. I do the same thing with smaller stuff but on a counter-height thing that I have next to a bright window. I use either white paper or a dark gray fabric. | |||||

| Tks tktoo, have only sat in chair a few times as this one is for sale currently. Funny thing is every time I sit in it I do so very gingerly as I am paranoid that I damage the thing lol. I have a second lounge and ottoman with more figured rosewood that I am currently working on that I will keep for myself. | |||||

| Hey Lief, I was just moving this thing and one of wood leg pieces came out. Turns out there is a metal tension clip thing that holds the leg in. Repostioned it with the grooves on the leg and hand pushed it back in. Its really sturdy now. | |||||

| Your lives will never be the same and you will be all the happier for it. Isn't he just the most awesome thing ever, Whitespike? Remember these moments when he is 17 and has wrecked your truck! It's like I say to my grown kids now when they do something incredibly stupid "It's a good thing you were cute when you were little . . . ." All the best, Riki | |||||

| Thank you, dear. ( I KNEW I'd say the right thing, sooner or later. . .!) But I'm not sure I helped Mr Skid. Does he wonder if it's necessarily a "feminine" thing to be concerned about appearances? (I think that's what he was asking.) I say no, but don't you wonder what the numbers really are on that? (Where's today's Dr Kinsey to ask and answer these questions? Links, anyone?) | |||||
| Look... | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | mgee76 | General discussion | |
| Look... ... you either like the thing for the thing, or you like it for some other intangible reasons. Not to get all Heidegger, but it is the thingness of the thing, not the name or the patent or whatever else you might fancy. That's design... that's art. You know how many Mona Lisas there are? If you really cared about such stuff, you'd have more to say about the craftsmanship or the accuracy of the attempt. Criticize those aspects, if it's so important to you, not the attempt itself. Perhaps it doesn't take much craft, but that would not appear to be the case if you're able to spot a fake on sight. If the guy really likes the tables and puts the work in to make some for himself, with all his talent and knowledge, that is worth appreciating for whatever it is. Whether you're having a go or speaking for 'the truth', you sound like a stick in the mud. And you accuse me a fascism? It's desperately pathetic. | |||||
