And I didn't have the choice what color to paint the room. I don't particularly care for the color. It's hard to tell in these pics, but it's a shade of green that I'm not fond of. They did get the color scheme from the marble bricks around the fireplace though. My dining room has a fireplace with diffent color scheme for the bricks (bue, green, ecru). They used the blue (which I do like) to paint t ...

| Brand Identity and Design Houses A knock-off is trying to be something it is not. That is dishonesty, a lie about its origins. Now, I'm not saying that the AllWorlds clocks arent clocks - they are just not Nelson Clocks, no matte how closely they resemble them. LRF, you should do some research into brand identity - it seems like you don't understand it very well. (not meant to be an insult, just a critique) Brand identity is what propelled these designs into the public in the first place. Nelson Associates - through their partnerships with Herman Miller a ... | |||||
| My suggestion | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | barrympls | General discussion | |
| My suggestion I'm not sure if any of the knockoffs are of the good enough quality that it would be worth your while. My best suggestion; see if you can snag one at eBay. I have never wanted this iconic lounge chair because it's almost a stereotype of good design; I went for a Saarinen Grasshopper Lounge chair and ottoman. (I didn't want a lounge that swiveled....) If I couldn't have found my Grasshopper chair, I would've bought a Womb chair and ottoman instead. I love the 670/671 Eames, but it's not right for me.... | |||||

| Tolomeo.... Hi James! My Tolomeo Mega is the 14" shade. I decided to got for that size since that size looks more proportional to the overall look of the base/arm. Also, I decided to go for the grey color shade since I didn't like the parchment/yellow-ish shade. I'm really happy with it. You can see the quality that goes into create this lamp. I hope this helps! -joel | |||||

It really looked beautiful. There were only two problems; they didn't both to get rid of the radiators and the hot water furnace (which provided almost no wall space) and they were asking $550,000!

(first protecting the opposite face with a layer of rubber cement or something else removable, to prevent moisture damage) into the sand, pressing it in and molding the sand to the level of the face of the backrest all around. Then apply glue and mold the slightly dampened (?) veneer to the area and vacuum bag the whole thing. Tricky but doable. Did I follow your lead at all, HP ? Another way (something a repeat repairer of these parts would make, perhaps) is a hard device that provides the same effect: a form-fitting fixture that the part would sit in, w ...
| Expensive Vitra | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | apollo | General discussion | |
| Expensive Vitra Frankie, things have always been this way. Europe and Germany in particular where the Vitra chairs are made is a very high wage economy. didn't one the German unions just agree a minimum wage of $36 an hour (Mattel the steel union I think). But most of all they charge it because they can. Remember however, when the pricing was agreed with HM, the dollar was a lot stronger against the euro and Vitra have to pay HM a percentage of sales. Even forgetting the exchange rate, the license fee Vitra pay HM, ensures Vitra can never produce the cha ... | |||||

(There's a "Frank Lloyd Wrong" house here in Minneapolis -designed by one of his employees- that's visually to die for, but it has had to be constantly repaired and was partially rebuilt.) Then there's the Robert Moses urban planning of scads of high rises for the poor - the Cabrini projects in Chicago are a good example. Rampant problems, crime, elevators that don't work, lousy sound proofing, etc. made them instant ghettos....and many of them have been torn down an ...

We could look at that interesting thing that happen (some of them you mentioned): Designers with socialist ideas produced ?wide access to design through low cost (efficiently produced) works?(for the poor and middle classes), but finally ended ?into luxury items? (for the rich). I,m trying to study those very interesting cases. To me if we try again, it will happen the same again. So studying this we could think what,s better to do. PS ...
