Many water bottling companies simply bottle re-filtered tap water anyway while convincing American consumers that tap water is almost "poison". Fiji Water must have seen the backlash building regarding bottled water and now market themselves as wholly "green" perhaps their source is, but how they can justify shipping water over 9,000 miles for sale in places like LA or NYC. Shipping that distance can hardly be considered green. O ...

| Azure, there seems to be some of the most interesting California designs that seemed to be especially popular only in California. Possibily it might've been distribution issues, but I do believe that there's a regional Modern style that didn't translate out east. Remember, back then, Knoll was in New York and Herman Miller, although based in Michigan, always had a strong presence in New York, and remember too, most of the magazine and other trade publications were in New York. Other furniture makers like Winchedon, directional, Dunbar and Whiticomb were ag ... | |||||

TVs are one of those appliances that straddle the line dividing durable goods and disposable goods these days. Save your money and wait for green lasers to reach production stage. Then you can project large, hi-def images onto your wall with a device the size of a modern day cell phone, meaning then no big black boxes on the wall. When it comes to, say, the Womb chair, Knoll isn't just ...

| . I missed out on a pair of Gilbert Rohde for Herman Miller dressers for $75 on CL because my incoming email wasn't working and I didn't know it. I found out after the impatient seller sold them to someone else that I WAS the first to respond to them too so they would have been mine. She waited a whole 4 hours before selling them. GRR. Also made arrangements to pick up 4 Hans Wegner "the chair"s for $300 on CL and then they emailed to say they were no longer available and we found them on eBay that night. Friend's of ours picked up a Nelson swag leg chair in ... | |||||

And many of the "once famous brands" that are being used on the cheaper TV's like Westinghouse aren't rating too high either. I was in the market for a 32" LCD flat screen TV and i hated the idea of spending so much money for a Sony or Panasonic, but then again, I didn't want to buy a lower end model that looks goods but won't last very long. I opted to buy a floor model Sony Bravia and am very happy with it. There again, as it re ...

| Perspectives Every new day, new directions thinking comes to mind... Perspective is the key word?... ONE) A perspective (from here). If I have to tell you much about Brazilian mid-century vintage furniture, Sorry, but I will disappoint you, I have not much more to tell you. There is one thing that I found really-very different, that wanted to comment it before, and this is provably the best moment, is: One of the huge differences that I saw, between ,,,here,,, and ,,,there,,, is the fascination with mid-century/vintage furniture, the prices, and the Is it r ... | |||||

| . a few years ago on the forum Koen mentioned a project he was involved in using recycled glass for drinking glasses (I think) and they didn't sell too well when they were lablled as being recycled but sold better when they were left unlabelled, or something like that, it would be good if he could elaborate on that. Is there an ethical aesthetic I wonder? Are less toxic fabric dyes different in intensity of colour? Plantation timbers are usually blonde, are we limited to that? This is a timber (Paulownia) I've been investigating for anyone interested, it see ... | |||||

| These photos show that the oval top has an oval base. If your base is round, it was meant to have a round top. You can see the tapered edge of the top. If you didn't care about authenticity, you could have a top made to suit yourself, with an ordinary 3/4" thick edge. A cabinet shop or kitchen counter fabricator could make you a white laminate top for a couple of hundred dollars. They should make sure to draw a "true ellipse," based on the length and width you give them. http://tri-stateantiques.com/imagesmodern/13341saarinen.html | |||||

| . Hi Barry, I dislike the polyethelene ice cream buckets, sorry I meant vases, becuase I don't like the colouring, full stop. With an object like a glass vase that is about shadows, reflections and transparency altering the opacity and the colouring also changes the design, I've got some Aalto books too and can appreciatte all the savoy colour variations up until this one. Its not like specifying fabric for a chair, the yellow and silver leather for the PK chairs didn't really change the design (though it looked awful) and the new Savoy colouring didn't chan ... | |||||

| They are both great That's why I can't decide...There are alot of copycat designs like the flat-top base, but that is a good point about the 670 ottoman base, I didn't think of that. The curved design is a little more distinctive and less copied though; my friend worked as a designer at Allsteel and they even have a version of the flat topped base, but not the curved. On the other hand a collector friend of mine noted that the flat topped base reminded him of one of Ray's early pattern designs (like in the fabric sample posted below) and to him was more 50's ... | |||||

| Thanks for the links... I looked over them before, but didn't really see anything about where to get just tabletops except from Knoll. Has anyone ever seen just the tabletops available anywhere else? I know it's more likely for the tabletops to get damaged then the base. If someone were to damage their tabletop where would they go to look for a new one (besides Knoll)? Is it possible to have something made that would look good on the base? I'm just trying to see if getting the tulip base is worth it without the tabletop. If it's going to cost an arm an ... | |||||
