| Great sound in little space... Great sound in little space is really not difficult, if you know what to look for. As an audiophile of 30+ years, I've never seen it happen where you have all style/convenience and best sound. There's always a compromise. While the Geneva system appeals to my taste for minimalism and aesthetics, I know I could have something entirely different that would appeal to my love of reproduced music that moves you, in the same way real music does. One example of a small system that can do this, could include a beautiful little tube amp ... | |||||

It strikes me that, considering a current thread about the Eileen Gray side-table, when you get it right , it's timeless. I didn't mean to blanket modern design either. There are some amazing conceptuallists out there and I'm constantly bedazzled by individuals inventiveness. I just shot from the hip regarding the bigger picture. I share your point.

| bj yep, but many were in pairs, a few groups of three and some nesting sets that were more like six or eight dolls. It was something like 70 listings all together, which isn't that much. Someone had collected them for fifty years or more. It was really fun to have them all for at least a little while. I didn't even buy the whole collection, maybe only about three fifths of it. I've never seen that many kokeshi at an auction--not even close! | |||||

Even more...Just learned our beloved IRS is now requiring photos of dontations made to charities (furniture, clothes etc). Plus the deduction is down from 20% to 10%. Anyone confirm this?

There must've been some reason why Herman Miller didn't give it more time to develop; if they went solely by sales, then the reintroduction of the Nelson Swag(ged) leg group last year would've bit the dust by now, because word is that it has been a sales disappointment. I'm thinking that there was some other issue that caused the Girard group is disappear so soon. MOST pieces of this beautiful furniture that turns up have Braniff labels. My late friend had scored a pair of sofas (like the one abov ...

| That's possible except for two things: 1) Why on earth would one create new balls that were sheared on one side? That would've been quite an expense. 2) There are so many weird short-lived Nelson Clock variations made by Howard Miller, I wouldn't be absolutely certain that it might not have been a different clock...that probably didn't last a year. | |||||

| Well... I just this weekend picked up an original 42" Knoll Saarinen tulip table that is in almost pristine condition for $600. It was just a mile away. I didn't even have to pay any shipping costs 😀 | |||||

| ... maybe it was reupholstered in the 70's, I dunno. It was a recliner but the mechanism isn't working, which is ok with me. It's very comfortable upright. Anyway, it was absolutely filthy when I got it---years of grime and body oil and possibly nicotine on the wood, especially the arm rests. We called it the DNA chair. I got the crud off with Murphy's Oil Soap and then rinsed, let it dry, and did a few coats of Danish oil finish. I replaced all of the padding. I also took the sinuous springs off the seat (one was broken) and replaced them with elastic webb ... | |||||

| 31 here I do the same thing, I search Ebay everyday with the same list keywords, sometimes Craigs list too. I have found lots of good stuff and things I didn't even know I wanted(is that bad?). For almost the last two weeks I went cold turkey and haven't used Either Ebay or Craigs list, I needed some time to enjoy what I have before getting more(I'm telling myself this hourly). I try to do all my computer stuff while my Wife is busy, now all I look at is this forum and road bicycling stuff(my other obsession). Careful with the rum, you may end up with a ... | |||||

| Cleaning-- Not long ago, I noticed how dusty and dingy my bubble was looking, so (throwing caution to the wind) I unwired the socket, and gave the bubble shade a bath-- wet sponge with mild detergent... rinsed with water under a faucet... dabbed excess water with terrycloth towel... allowed it to dry completely before reinstalling the socket & wire. I'm sure my cleaning method isn't Herman Miller-sanctioned, but the lamp didn't seem to suffer any adverse effects, and it certainly became cleaner. | |||||

| Ummm... What wood top? Am I missing another piece? I'm confused. Bear with me. I've never seen one of these tables in person before. I have a table top that came with the table...I just didn't get any screws or anything. I know the three holes on the outer edges that make the shape of a triangle are to screw into the table top which has corresponding holes. The table top also a a hole with no groves for a screw in the center which would be a above the metal piece in the center of the base. I was just wondering what that hole in the center of the tabl ... | |||||

| Round two I tried the mayonnaise and sadly it didn't work. Then I tried Mayo and a blow dryer, and I got a slightly dappled watermark (ever so slightly) and that was after 20 min of work. Surely if this was going to work it should have done more than slightly dapple!! Got my first quote back from the refinisher and it costs(drum roll)$325. Which isn't so bad?? So, I'll try the denatured alcohol with a QTip as suggested and if that doesn't work it's off to the refinisher. | |||||
