| 1) Quite interesting, I didn't read all the manifesto endeed. But interesting the approach on Technologies and on err at. And off-modernism, of course! The only thing I didn,t agree 100% is on the tone or the style of the manifesto, More than a manifesto it,s like a lecture. Too feminine, rather than feminist (but provably it,s just a matter of taste, not the one that fits better on me for this case). Just a matter of form, and agree with the content. 2) Those are really HUGE NEWS, so...this means: "Manifesto Reloaded" ? | |||||

| ... buy the best I can afford, but now that choice may not always be the most sustainable one. So I weigh all these factors in my process of decision-making. As one may have noticed, I am not at all inclined to the impulse buy. I am a marketer's nightmare and yet I was in marketing for years...I guess my scientific pragmatism made me a dispassionate judge of how other people make buying decisions. Anyway...I own 3 pieces of furniture that are contemporary productions of MCM designs. Nelson Bench, Womb Chair and Wasily Chair. The bench and womb chair are from HM ... | |||||

| Let's get our terminology right , Boys and Girls All of these units are "Wood Stoves" NOT fireplaces. Big difference! Many fireplaces especially in old homes that didn't use a flue are horribly inefficient with heat being sucked out of a space whether or not a fire was actually burning in the fireplace. Heat rises, me dears, basic physics. Wood stoves on the other hand have exposed chimney pipes (usually) and the unit themselves stand free of a wall and are surrounded by the air of the space. This allows them to deliver their heat into the space much more ef ... | |||||
| When my father sold my childhood home | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | william-holden-... | General discussion | |
| When my father sold my childhood home I asked if I could remove the Danish shelving system, since I knew that he and my stepmother didn't intend to take it to the new house. Just as I was about to start disassembly, my stepmother chimed in that the shelving is considered a "built-in", and removing it would jeopardize the house sale. After asking if the buyer specifically asked to keep the wall system ("no"), and then assuring her that wall-mounted furniture is no more a "built-in" than a painting or a clock, she remained unconvinced, so I dropped the subject ... | |||||

Unfortunately, I tuned out WHC around the time he started talking about weighing the film down with books over several days. Several days wasn't going to do for an "emergency lampshade issue". I started tuning him back in when he said "Iron away.... what do I care...". Which I did in no time flat. (Note to self: "4" is way too hot for this procedure). Okay, so as some have already surmised, that didn't work too well. It did indeed melt the plastic in some places. T ...

| great questions! I don't... great questions! I don't know a lot about Johnson but you can turn the criticism on its head by saying he was a great facilitator and given that in the US state sponsorship of the arts isn't so generous as elsewhere private patronage is very important. His glass house was quite different to Farnsworth, Craig Ellwood was a bit more slavish to Mies and Johnson could have built a very similar building but he didn't, he did understand that his site had context. His po mo work? Maybe he was laughing up his sleeve, I'm not sure. | |||||

| Read through the archives. (search box, upper right) I'll post the link...didn't work. just type in 'eames shell chairs' (The price extremes on e-bay relate to how old they are, condition, etc. The early rope edge fetch high prices. The more you learn before you bid, the better off. If you see a set, best to go with a seller that shows lots of pictures) Correct about getting ones with ratty soft-pad seats. Often a bargain, and some clean up mint. | |||||

| Like, Part Two, Man... Moral outrage, marching, and voting, haven't changed a thing, just like they didn't prevent the maddness of the Cold War, or the slaughters of WWI and WWII. Current economic melt down triggers no more compassion than the Great Depression did. Judging from the inner cities, we probably already have as many unemployed now as we had in the entirety of the Great Depression, man; its like the cats in government just decided to index it away, so all the hungry, destitute cats simply go uncounted. Remedies? Oh, man, they are as trivial in the ... | |||||

Cool was Albert Camus fighting the good fight in the underground but writing The Fall and dying in a car wreck in a trench coat smoking cancer sticks to the end. Cool was the ultimate existential response to the 20th Century nightmare ...
| Also, Lloyd | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | barrympls | General discussion | |
| Also, Lloyd considering that 1) they weren't interested in the reissuing series that went to Vitra, and 2) when contact, they know little or nothing about these clocks and didn't keep very good records, makes me think that the ending of the relationship was messy and unpleasant. On the other hand (no pun intended), if you contact Howard Miller about the traditional Howard Miller clock your grand Aunt Hildy has on her mantelpiece, they can look it up and tell you exactly when it was made and probably can still service it. Howard Miller is a good company, but ... | |||||
