| 'Dashes' is being somewhat di... 'Dashes' is being somewhat disingenuous here as of course he is none other than the 'Dots' of recent fame on this forum amd memorable for throwing a very major tantrum when challenged over one of his (many) id threads where he didn't want to reveal exactly what the item was for fear that a viewer would bid against him on Ebay. In a rather nice Ministry of Truth style manouever he deleted all his 'Dots' posts and returned as Dashes (geddit?). I really wasn't going to mention it but as dots/dashes ('colon' would be better) him ... | |||||

| They are 4 legged stools with... They are 4 legged stools with a passing resemblance to an earlier Aalto design....thats all!!! The only connection Aalto had with Thonet is that he entered a competition run by Thonet in the 1920s.....and didn't win (the stool was several years in the future at the time). You'll notice that the legs are plywood not solid, its proportionally wrong, the seat does not have the veneer band and the legs are tapered. Not Aalto. The only designs that are 'Aalto' but 'not Aalto' are certain designs Artek - Pascoe released to the US m ... | |||||

| ... suited for my home. Not everyone here has the time or budget to collect the fancy shit you talk about here. I will NEVER pay over $1000 for some collectible piece that is not who I am or how I live. I am a stay at home mom of 2 kids. The $20 dollar piece means setting up an appointment across town, lugging them along, and possibly a return trip without carseats or renting a truck. My husband is frequently out of town, meaning I would also have to hire a sitter. I do not have time for casual scouting, estate sales, and the like, the internet is where I do ... | |||||

| I have a Jens coffee table That was a hand-me-down from my in-laws. When we got it 10+ years ago I didn't like it and almost replaced it with something more "trendy" and of lesser quality. Only recently have I gained an appreciation for his work. It has taken a bit of a beating from the kids but in a few years it can be refinished and will look as beautiful as ever. Thanks for the pics 🙂 | |||||

| But what about those giant soccer balls in the background. What race of giants are those being exported to? 🙂 I knew that consumers in the west have been labeled as "big" consumers, I just didn't realize they meant it literally. | |||||

| LuciferSum, That's great... LuciferSum, That's great news! Congratulations on your find. I'm very much a diY kind of guy, but when it comes to my Eames lounge, I decided to let pros do it. I really didn't want to always second-guess my handiwork every time I sat in that chair. The $350 was well-spent for the peace of mind. fm | |||||

| OK, don't laugh too hard, but I'm seriously wondering if these might be Ruhlmann chairs. I mean, aside from the fact that he didn't seem to use cane (smart guy). But his chairs consistently had that little swag thing going on. OK, maybe not Ruhlmann, but whoever made this chair was certainly inspired by him. http://www.pollaro.com/rh_chairs.php | |||||

| Thanks to everyone I want to say thank you to everyone that has replied. It looks like it is going to a new home, and I'm sure everyone here is hoping there are no small chilren in it, looking at it from through all of your eyes, I guess it could be kinda scary. Anyway, my hope of putting to high of a reserve price didn't work, so gone it will be. And just when I was going to start displaying all my 50's and 60's art pottery vases. Lets hope he can live with them!! THANK YOU ALL AGAIN!! | |||||

| Yep...that's blue. I found t... Yep...that's blue. I found the colour of it as fascinating as the shape. When I first saw it sitting in a case in the shop, I thought it was actually covered in blue leather or perhaps enamel...it didn't look "plastic". I've only seen the other two clocks in black...not the C-1. Do you mean you have one of the other two models in black? I've really only seen one other original of this model on the internet, and it was an interesting purple colour... | |||||

| quick 2 cents I'm way busy now, but i also considered memory foam for some various chairs, etc. I think it is best for flat surfaces. Body weight distributed along a flat plane. I would hesitate to go through a very expensive recovering; leather, etc. and even the time involved, to use memory foam. It DOES hold up over time. I have it on my daybed in my office. Really just used by elder dog. I just don't think the weight placed on a seat really serves its purpose? It flattens with one pressure point of heavier weight. The recline is not great enough to distr ... | |||||

| I feel better Glassartist: I know you're talking about my faux Quistgaard desk. However, I didn't donate mine to starving children so you are a much bigger person that I! I've only been "into" this mid-cent-mod furniture for a month, so I'm sure I'll be able to top this in the near future. Stay tuned for my future screw ups. | |||||
| Couldn't | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | Sound & Design | General discussion | |
| Couldn't Went through some of my books, didn't find anything. Online searches came up empty (for me..give it a go). You could go visit your public library (online?), and look up various titles on glass designs. I do know of one monograph of sorts, "Orrefors Glass" by Alastair Duncan, which might be of help. If you do learn of the designer, please do clear the air. Its a lovely piece. | |||||
