| If you have the original... If you have the original picture, look at him and you'll see. He's out of focus/blury. I'm not saying that he was an aftertought. I think that he didn't make it for the shoot and was added later. You have to see what an old school slide manipulator could do those days. -joel | |||||

| sorry I made the correction on the listing about 12 hours into the listing once I realized I was wrong. I mis-understood the earlier references. As for being a rat, I'm a 24 year old artist who is selling this for an elderly client. I don't stand to make any profit at all! If I didn't care about being correct, why would I ask for advice in the first place. | |||||

| valet chair... that is so weird. I think I just saw the same chair at a Minneapolis Salvation Army... I decided against it because, far away it looked good, but up close it seemed new and poorly made... if its not the same chair... it might be safe to say its a newer production? the one I saw didn't have any makers labels... but. regardless. it does have a great look - definitely one of the better valet chairs I've seen. | |||||

| ... helps when there's a lot of waiting around. We sit and talk about all kinds of stuff. Last week I got a glass vase by Bengte Orup for Johansfors for $9. Woohoo!! Last night I got a Selig lounge chair (the Eames knockoff) for two bucks, but it needs extensive work. Got an old Kevi office chair for two bucks, too, but it's missing one little knob on the back, which I didn't notice until after I'd gotten it. | |||||

A soft floor may interfere with the shuffling pattern and in turn, lead to balance difficulties and falls. I know of a teenager who tore an ACL playing on a soft floor because her foot planted but didn't pivot. Maybe something softer than typical institutional surfaces but also cleanable and not "squishy" like cork could do the trick. Just my .02

| my latest This is my latest. I got it for two dollars at an estate sale because no one else was crazy enough to bid on it. It had been offered at the same sale many months ago and I didn't bid on it then because I didn't want another project. I thought it was an Eames but I didn't look at it very carefully at the time. When it was re-consigned, all I remembered was that I thought it as an Eames and once more I didn't bother to check it out carefully! Turns out it is that same Selig or Plycraft that someone else posted about a week or so ago. The bolts a ... | |||||

| Hej koen! Thanks for sharing your story. I had heard about the Volvo factory delivery, but was not familiar with the details (I drive a German car 🙂 If I am not mistaken it is still in place, and only open to foreign customers. I didn't know you had a background at Volvo. In Sweden! Was that in design? It would be interesting to hear more about that sometime. Actually, from what I have read browsing the DA archives there should be a sticky thread on your background 🙂 I am sure it would be appreciated by the forum members. Volvo is not the company it was back ... | |||||

They are also now selling new stuff, competing with local store, which I think goes against 'good will' of the stores. That aside, I have had a few good-uns: An Olivetti Valentine for $5! Isn't it just beautiful? A fabulous Deco free-standing shelf in brass, acrylic and glass. They couldn't get rid of it quick enough as it was taking up too much room. "Make us an offer" they said. I gave them $50. Quite a lot of DENBY ware, large, medium and small pla ...

| I agree but if I saw a clock I didn't want to bid on, I'd surely mention it here, especially if I found it in a strange place on eBay. Wind-ups can be tricky. I have three wind-ups and each of them needed expensive repair. Two needed cleaning ($45.00 each) and one's in the shop and I was told it has a broken wind spring and I haven't heard back it can be fixed or not. If so, it'll probably cost me $70.00 for the repair, or he'll have to replace the wind-up motor with a battery motor, which will be a drag. So, anyone bidding on a wind-up type clock, proceed ... | |||||

I'll bet the thrift stores in Atlanta have better stuff, I'll have to broaden my search area. On my choice of vehicle, ahem, I was in a horrible car accident in my 20's and I have a phobia of small cars. If I could drive a Sherman tank, I would. My H2 is the next best thing. This my second one, before that I drove Land Rovers but they didn't hold enough "stuff". The H2 cou ...

| ... she didn't know anything about them. The wood one is very interesting - it only has 3 leg caps on the table top, and the corner where that cap is absent, the corner is rounded unlike the other 3 corners which are sharp. That alone takes it into the designer realm, I think (no?) Also, both tables have a deep circular notch on all the legs, about an inch from the bottom - just like the one at this link. http://www.antiquehelper.com/item.php?itemID=4925 | |||||

| Heh, Gustaf, about the flowers - because me too There was a time when I made of point of bringing flowers in regularly and it was really nice - but then they die and you have to start all over. So, I stopped, lol. Even then though, I used an ice bucket I had as the vase - in fact, I should go dig that up and check it out, it could be some vintage thing that I never noticed (it's metal though). Riki, I know what you mean about the grain lines on the bottom. I'm pretty sure that the guy I showed it to (who knows his woods) thought it was teak, but now I'm no ... | |||||

| WHC Hillarious! I had a great image of books clawing their way off the shelves like lemmings 😀 So I glued up and clamped the frame tonight. I'm SO confused as to how it got broken. When the leg was on it didn't really seem to push against the break in the frame. The mortise & tenon split the wood into three pieces, but how is just beyond me. I used a screw driver to open up the cracks a little bit, then moistened it all, then used a fine paintbrush to brush gorilla glue across all surfaces, including the mortise & tenon. Then I clamped it up as shown. ... | |||||

| Its a nice take on the wire b... Its a nice take on the wire base but would look better as a table support. I wonder why HM or Eames didn't do this? The dowell leg base would be lovely with a disc of white formica or walnut veneer over nice ply. | |||||
| Decorating period homes | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | Riki | General discussion | |
| Decorating period homes I am remodeling two homes right now, a 1957 mid-century beauty that the previous owner didn't "remuddle" too much. He did put in some new light fixtures that would be more appropriate in an Arts & Crafts bungalow which I am replacing one by one. My other house is a 7500 sq. ft. antebellum plantation, "Tara" if you will, in the heart of dixie built between 1850 and 1857. That project has consumed the better part of the last 13 years. When doing any decorating/remodeling/restoring of older homes, I always try to keep in mind that firs ... | |||||
