| Originals always win. That being said, I have a few new Herman Miller pieces. I like them, but the originals have the "soul." I decided on a new HM lounge and ottoman though for functional reasons. I didn't want to go through the paranoia of the shockmounts failing (as they often do) because it was a piece I planned on using the hell out of. Vintage shells are easy enough to get repaired, tables you don't use like a chair, so those are best vintage. I have a new Nelson bench. It's nice. After seven years it's starting to get some wear finally. | |||||

| Dreyfus I didn't know Dreyfus designed the SX-70. It's so right, though. Dreyfus' designs are streamlined and beautiful. | |||||

| ... as Art Deco, (Arte Moderne, overseas) but that didn't exhibit typical Art Deco decoration. It was originally meant to describe items from the 1920's to the 1940's but I think lately it's really become nothing but a catchall phrase that people use to describe just about anything 20th century that's not easily classified into MCM, Art Deco, Late Victorian, Post-Modern, etc. Hollywood Regency has typically been used to describe the look of Dorothy Draper, Tommi Parzinger, Karl Springer, et al, and is characterized by a lot of faux bamboo, burl wood, lucite, r ... | |||||

| Ah, ok.. ...$60 for a king duvet is an excellent price. We have a king mattress too but with the added problem of its being one of those super thick kind. The salesman assured us that we'd be able to buy sheets to fit it, but of course he didn't tell us that the selection was extremely limited and prices are exorbitant for anything worth sleeping between. Fitted sheets boing off the corners and the top sheets aren't even wide enough to cover the sides of the mattress when the bed is made up. And that is with sheets that are supposedly cut to fit 18" mattr ... | |||||

| ... But as a designer I,d love to say that I don,t need it. On the other hand, here, because of affordability it,s only used by graphic designers, the rest almost nobody uses Mac. Architects I know that used Mac, and as almost used PC, they had to move from Mac. For instance, Instead of a Mac I,d produce 200-700 lamps, high end-good quality, so I choose to design/develop/produce the lamps. It,s not that the Macs are SO expensive, but relative prices are different, and became cheap to design/develop/produce. So I,ll have to wait! Mac-Pcs Of course this is a sub ... | |||||

| Now, these are the kind of... Now, these are the kind of answers I was hoping to hear - simple, inexpensive and hopefully effective solutions; as for the turpentine tip, I don't know how I didn't come up with this myself - I guess that's what you get for spending too much time with furniture made of plastics (but I'm through with it now, as I recently rediscovered the simple joys of Danish MIM..). Anyways, thanks for the help ya'll - and hey, nothing wrong with being female, my wife is one too ;)..cheers! | |||||

Empire is a "chunkier" version of Regency. Predominant woods were mahogany and walnut. Empire style columns on the bureaus and sideboards and chests were heftier. There were thick, carved curves on table bases. The pulls on case pieces were wooden knobs as opposed to brass pulls or cut glass knobs from the prior periods. | ... Keeping busy with work for friends, making things with a less sophisticated shop (so far) and a minimal budget. My education was expected (by some) to ready me for a professional design career, but it didn't, and I find I'm quite content as a mechanic (in the broad sense) and a lifelong student of architectural and furniture design, most particularly that of the past century, which I'm confident is the most amazing 100 years yet in the story of Man the maker. | |||||
