| Perhaps Perhaps it was simply that Wright didn't know. The copy on the auction site seems to categorize this as one of the earlier experiments with shockmounts - like the steel disk mounts. clearly since then its been established that it is later. | |||||

| Just want to stop back here... Just want to stop back here too, and say that I have followed and enjoyed all the posts in this thread, especially the excellent posts/essays by dcwilson and glassartist. I believed momentarily that I could make a case for my Uncle Tupelo analogy, whitespike, but then realized quickly, with respect to the other posts, I didn't have it in me. | |||||

Doesn't any architect or designer adopts known forms, otherwise they'd veer off into abstraction ? Re: 'mannerist' it was the talk of mannerist style that confused me, mannerism is an accepted academic and historic style that has little or nothing to do with minimalism, quite the reverse. Thanks for clearing that up. | |||||

| Whilst it may suit your argument to invent a three story high chair back- but it simply didn't exist, so really doesn't stand up as an analogy; the high backed chair appears throughout chair and chair design history regularly though, and has far from disappeared. I also think there is a difference between a public religious building and a Cistersian monastery, this is a public place of worship, it is a place of work and contemplation. I still can't help thinking, as did the Abott, that Pawson was the perfect contemporary choice for the job. The monastery was ... | |||||

| big tv great story of your grandfather; he was obviously an amazing man. too many at even a younger age run out of ambition and sink deeply into the easy chair. what a legacy. this whole deal is not altogether different from the values we hold in our efforts to preserve our earth's resources and leave a better place for those who will carry on after we move on. we've had discussions here that reflect our willingness to make personal sacrifices for the betterment of our planet. granted, selling chairs and maintaining clean waterways are miles apart in their r ... | |||||

| ... are about 35 houses on my street, 30 of which are serviced by three separate landscape companies. One of the 5 homeowners in the cut-it-themselves camp moved and left the house in care of a realtor to sell it. The realtor never had the grass cut. Two of the landscapers tended the properties on either side of the uncut grass property and both of their respective clients asked each of their landscapers if they might just knock down the tall grass as a favor. They didn't want it done every week, perhaps once in 7 or 8 weeks. Both landscapers attitudes were, an ... | |||||
| i refinished one of these chairs | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| i refinished one of these chairs Is this the one you have? I got mine for $25 at auction. The finish was kinda funky (plus the walnut was greenish, which I hated) so I stripped it. The back spindles had a different clear finish than the rest of the chair and it was much harder to remove. Might have been polyurethane. Anyway, I ended up ebonizing the chair with permanent India ink. I love the way it turned out. It was very easy to do once the finish was off. I just brushed it on with a small foam brush---two coats over most of it and I think a third coa ... | |||||

| Hmphh...you all have made me... Hmphh...you all have made me crave chicken, and I don't have any in the house at the moment, and I'm too lazy to go buy some. KFC is okay, but their prices are outrageous. I didn't realize how much their prices had increased in the last few months. I went to the KFC by work a few weeks ago. A normal meal (2 pieces of chicken, 2 sides, and a drink) was around $8.50. That's ridiculous. I can eat a nice sit-down meal at a much nicer restaraunt for almost the same price. And I actually live in Kentucky...home of KFC aka Kent ... | |||||

| Uy! ¿Cual fue el mal entendido? Oops!, Which was the misunderstood? Queridisimo pollo azul: Realmente no se cual fue el malentendido, y mis mas sinceras disculpas si es que asi fue. Todo fue bien intencionado. ,,Free interpretation,, Many of your posts and threads are a kind of ,,Free interpretation,,. I was trying to explain that in your own way. But as can be seen, I,m not as good as you. You suggested ,,,Look to heaven to see azure things clear,,,. But it would be more ease, if you are clearer, and say things in plain English. If not, accept the risk of a ... | |||||

| ... Well, that story can't really be about me, as I've been using computed already on my secondary school 🙂 and I didn't even intend to start a thread exactly on a topic "computer vs. pencil" as it turned out to be.. In my opinion pencil is better in some cases.. such as sketching an idea, taking notes.. or just while waiting for an inspiration to come 🙂 But also computer has it's pros... in various manipulation with already sketched drawing, by modifications, enlarging and so on.. but it is interesting how such simple instruments evoke so nice feelings.. I have a hard time feeling calm in the face of visual clutter. I clear everything off my kitchen counters and coffee table every night when I go to bed. Magazines are quickly recycled, paperbacks are donated and all other books are behind doors. My displays of my stuff are kept confined and often repeats shapes. As AzC talked about, I put things away and then pull them out (often seasonally) so I can keep things fresh to ... | |||||
