| Such thing as a vintage gray Knoll Saarinen Tulip Chair? | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | lujonphilly | General discussion | |
| Came across this chair recently, owner claims it's the original color and tagged knoll. I've seen the currently available platinum version that's for sale but can't seem to find anything similar in the vintage world. Anyone know the story with this? | |||||

| I zoomed in on the mark. I can't even figure out what the letters are. I assumed from the small c that the first letter was an M, but it kinda looks more like an H. Oh wait, the second thing is the British symbol for pounds. Duh. So what's that last thing? And is the vertical mark on the far right part of the last thing or is it just a reflection? | |||||

| No, not really... Untill Poul Kjaerholm's tragic dead, most if his furniture was produced by Kold Christensen. Only a few pieces were designed for Fritz Hansen. In 1982 (he died in 1980) Fritz Hansen aquired the rights to produce the Kold Christensen products. Finally, some wooden furniture has been produced by PP Mobler. In that case to, some were designed for them, some were taken into production after 1982 | |||||
| Caring for vintage rosewood furniture. Oil? Wax? Help! | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | Modadan | General discussion | |
| I recently aquired a Bruno Hansen rosewood high board and it's in great condition. The previous owner said he maintained it with a spray of Murphy's oil and a rag. Its my first vintage wood piece and I really don't know how to look after it. I have read conflicting info on the Internet like not to put any oils on rosewood, only soft wax. Others say oils. Some say damp cloth while others NO water at all, not even damp cloth. What do you think about murphys oil? What would you recommend using to clean and maintain the wood in good condition and how often? | |||||
| Very interesting. All three | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | cdsilva | Identification | |
| Very interesting. All three (OP, FF, and Fristho) appear to be the same chair. That curve on the underside of the rail is fairly distinct. I can envision a scenario where Design International Corporation imported an assortment of various chairs from different parts of Europe. And somewhere along the line (either internal or through communication with FF), the chairs all "aquired" the attribution for Herbert Hirche. This theory would explain why no other example of the chair appears in online searches attributed to HH, as well as the wide range of styles for the four chairs in the FF spread. It would be nice to see some vintage documentation (or label) that verifies that WW for Fristho is indeed a legit attribution. | |||||

| Restoring Egg chair Lovely item you have aquired. I also think that the sheridan book on 606 is a real treaure trove of info especially for Jacobsen fans like me. The attention to detail reminds me of the Jacobsen works themselves. If you get the chance to look at Nationalbanken in Kobenhavn then take the chance its a masterpiece of modern architecture. Anyway I digress. One place you might want to look for restoration is linked below. As for colours you can order in a number of the Kvadrat upholstery fabrics (felt such as Divina, or wovens such as Hallingdal and Tonus). I know this as I just ordered a new swan chair at the weekend in the January sales!!! Sorry but I'm not au fait with the leathers. JK http://www.restoreltd.co.uk | |||||
| Rocio Romero, | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | LRF | General discussion | |
| Rocio Romero, Every thing that i have read in the last several years says good things about Rocio Romero, designer of the LV Home, I think she has really tried to get her hands around prefab homes. of course i don't think any of the magazines are going to say any thing negative about her, you will have to do your own research and find out how her end products have turned out. and see what her customer satisfaction rating is . and the fact that she is in Colorado makes that much easier for you being in New Mexico. Like i say Olive this would be a great undertaking and a fun thing to do, lots of patience required. With DC's manifesto and all the other design addicts, i think we can get this thing off the ground or truck for you pretty easy.... | |||||
| if there is... | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | Ron Sim | General discussion | |
| if there is... if there is a sort of rug that is child-proof, that would be just great! I never saw such a thing, like for instance a rubber mat as a rug. I already started searching the web, but haven't found otherwise than those rubber company doormats... The white thing underneath the tv is a diy thing to make sure cable or not visible and to put things on. It's not really fantastic, but it works. I suppose we could put op some shelves in the annex, a eames lounger for reading and than adding the playpen. The only thing i'm worried about is the combination of a playpen and the Eames.... We really had to save for some time to get those chairs and we wouldn't want to see kids destroying it... if you know what i mean... 😉 | |||||
| Well if it is a known exotic, | 1 Relevance | 10 years ago | leif ericson - Zephyr Renner | General discussion | |
| Well if it is a known exotic, then you've nicely fit it in with the sort of thing it fairly screams itself to be. It mightn't tell you whose studio workshop it is from, which is what you want to know, but sometimes we have to plod through an identification accumulating information bit by bit. Or if it were something more of a production choice exotic, that would mean another thing. If it is something utterly unrecognizable or bizarre or local, that might mean another thing entirely. Etc. Of course I will also point out I am very rarely right if it makes Tktoo wrong. So there is probably nothing more to learn here. | |||||
| Horsnaes of Denmark model 70 lounge chair ? anyone know the designer? | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | si jones | General discussion | |
| Hello all, I aquired one of these chairs a couple of years ago from a second hand shop for the delightful price of £2! Mine has the original kingfisher blue boucle fabric which still looks great, I love this chair and never tire of looking at the beautifully sculptured framework it really is a piece of work! A while ago I found out from doing some research that it was made by Horsnaes of Denmark and apparently is a 'model 70' There doesn't seem to be any information out there regarding who the designer is, does anyone know or have any ideas? I know that Peter Hvidt and Nanna Ditzel did some work for Horsnaes but can't seem to find anything. Thanks for your time. http://antikmodern.blogspot.com/2011/08/shop-horsnaes-model-70-lounge-chair-2.html | |||||
| Experspring - refinishing walnut mid century rocker | 1 Relevance | 11 years ago | cerissamngm | General discussion | |
| Hello, First time posting here. I recently aquired a rocking chair for my first nursery. It needs to be refinished overall. My first concern is the seat. The coils were removed at somet point and a thick fabric was nailed in it's place. If I'm going through the trouble of refinishing it, I might as start with the coils. In my initial research, I've determined the type of spring and the distributor in the UK. The shipping cost is crazy, but that's another discussion. Anyway, can I get some input from others who have used EXPERSPRING before? I've read a few other threads and am wondering what the difficulty level is here..? It looks like I need 5 coils total. From what I understand, connectors are included with the coil purchase? I wish there was a video out there that demonstrated the use of these coils. Additionally, how do they stay in place..simply tension? Also, are there absolutely no distributors in the US?? TIA | |||||
| Architecture, furniture and ....... plants. | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | HowardMoon | General discussion | |
| I have been messing around for ages with different furniture at the back of my small flat against the picture windows. I think I have finaly stumbled on the perfect combination. The simple lines of the Moller chairs allow lots of light and space to pass around them and don?t hinder the view to the newly aquired Acer trees which suit the shallow dish shape of the 1950s planters perfectly. It also has a distinctly Japanese feel which is what I was after since my wife is a native of those parts. As someone who studied garden design I am fascinated by the use of plants and the association plants have with other areas of design, does anyone else have some good examples to share? http://www.flickr.com/photos/33820677@N08/3435657956/ | |||||

| It's an assortment of 10th century Viking weaponry. Amazing collection! The stringed thing is a throwing star, thing with metal studs is a mace, the knobbed-thing's a grappling hook. (Now for the bad news-- the wooden tulip-style pedestal appears to be a run-of-the-mill twentieth century lamp base.) | |||||

| update Have spoken to Altri/Philip Morris and they have retained none of the original furnishing from the building. Perhaps an executive may have one or 2 pieces, but everything else was gutted. The only historical remnats are the aluminum wrapped columns inside and out and a refinished aluminum cased escalator. Sad. However I did find out that the University of Richmond owned the property and may have aquired anything left by Reynolds prior to Philip Morris moving in. I have spoken to one person in facilities management there and have been directed to another long term supervisor who may have more info. Hopefully I get a return call. None of this may help me determin the actual designer of this piece, but who knows. And hey; maybe I'll track down more original pieces?!? | |||||
