| Go, Newark ! This thread has it all: blatant commercial promotion (for free), bad spelling, mutual backslapping, and (for all I know) nepotism. The only breath of fresh air is the (much belated) revelation of a potentially superior replacement for Eames/Miller traditional shockmounts -- too bad I didn't publish when the idea first occurred to me ! I wonder what HM has to say about that . . . and about the potentially libelous slur re warranty and obsolescence issues. Flame on ! Have a Happy and Prosperous New Year, as they used to say. | |||||

| I don't have a scanner here.. but these are these chairs, they are in one fo the Hille furniture brochures in the book..without the back cushions- which I knew were later additions (the original purchasers were short, and added back cushions to both the chairs and the sofa, which is marked Hille, but I didn't know the armchairs were) Re: the glass book, I sold and lent stuff to the author, as well as did a couple of TV things alongside him | |||||

| Jeremiah Whether this sounds silly or not - many of us are not concerned whether or not a copy is more or less comfortable. The fact is, whoever designed this piece copied someone else's work. This "designer" or company did nothing more than jump on the bandwagon to make some money. If they wanted to design a handsome recliner that's great. They should have taken this opportunity to bring something new to the world. But, clearly they are more interested in making a buck. Mr. Eames, while I am sure he was also interested in being paid, took the time and energ ... | |||||

| Gustaf "I wonder if there was any connection, or just a coincidence that two of the earliest and most iconic organically shaped chairs were launched the same year?" The "coincidence" is MoMA's Organic Furniture Competition. I know the the Eames/Saarinen design was made for that ... assuming the same could be true for Juhl. I was referring to the model 57. I didn't mean any offense. | |||||

| Julien, try copying the lin... Julien, try copying the link in Photobucket's "Share URL" field, then reply to this post and paste the link in the field named "associated web images (optional). Edit: didn't see Robert's reply. Interesting looking chair. Haven't seen it before though, so I can't help. | |||||

| Woof, my guess is...probably The drawer part of the pictured unit is exactly like the Gunmetal finish unit my late friend had, and it about his most cherished item. Back in the '80's, you simply didn't have much opportunity to find this level of high quality office furniture, because offices were still using them! | |||||
| Are you kidding? | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| Are you kidding? My kids regularly discuss in front of me what they are gonna snag when I croak. They ask me for some things and other things they just say they will take. They compete (not too seriously) for stuff. It's mostly my two daughters. My son is only 18 and not too interested yet in home furnishings, though he does have a Plycraft Eames-wannabe lounge chair in his dorm room. If my kids didn't lust for my furniture and stuff, I'd probably tell them to consign it to one of the better auction houses in town, one that I know will advertise well so ... | |||||

| Yep I had the same thought one day and I had this sudden urge to write a will even at age 25. I too, just didn't want people to throw away my things without realizing their worth or selling them. When my grandfather passed away, everyone in the family was just going through his things and I'm walking around my grandparent's house like, "What the f!!k?" I begged them to at least keep his rocking chair, but nope, there was no use for it. My uncle wanted to take all of his suits and my aunts and mother were trying to sneakily grab little things of his so that t ... | |||||

| 🙂 gustavo, it was really wonderful effort to write down all (or almost all) names with comments 🙂 what makes me say sorry, i didn't post any picture, but I still do live with my parents and my room looks un-excusable messy, and I can't throw out anything because of my mother... even the expression - from west 🙂 sounds a bit funny, cause here in Europe, Slovakia is considered as a country from east... but I must say I'm really proud and thankful to be a part of "DA family" 🙂 PS> just one funny picture about east-west confusion | |||||

| As we have already explained... As we have already explained on several occasions, we cannot add an information that we didn't collect when you registered on the forum. However, we started to add a mention of the country in 2 letters next to the names of the participants when we know their nationality and we will try progressively to complete this process day after day. For a more advanced solution, it will be necessary to wait still a little bit. | |||||
