Gustavo, yeah it?s ?design for real world?, although I didn?t find it so appropriate to the content of chapter that followed after this quote? Anyway.. there is an interesting "bowl" by Xin Xu, ilustrating the concept of "bowl emptiness".. | Oh, Red lucky, lucky you with your magic curb. LuciferSum has a magic dumpster, the location of which he will not disclose. I'm always a little leary of "found" upholstered furniture. Just make sure you sit it outside in the sun for a good long time if you plan on keeping any of the upholstery. I have a fun trick that antique dealers use that I will pass on to everyone. Sometimes at auction, we stumble upon old rugs that have a great look but are filthy and stained and they end up selling for a pittance. Since they are already gross and it's impossible ...

| ... Harlan Chromachron Early Manual Wind Model... If you've read about Tian Harlan before, then just skip this bit, but for you newbies, here's a potted history of this watch... Tian Harlan, an artist not a watchmaker, believed that time was unimportant and didn't need to be measured too accurately, so he developed a system of a colour for every hour which gave you an approximate time reading...super popular with collectors and style monkeys alike.. This is an early, so rare model in perfect New Old Stock never been worn condition running as it should and on it ... | |||||

| small ICFF was the smallest i've seen it....... herman miller did not introduce anything new because they didn't even bother to have a display. many of the bigger companies like knoll etc usually don't bother, apparently they do need or want to to make the effort. its usually a lot of fledgling companies with marginal stuff to sell. kartell and vitra were there along with some other notables, but all in all nothing terribly exciting in the "new" department | |||||

| Riki...just for the record this all started when I posted photos of my living room and instead of people acknowledging the furnishings, instead I got "room's too cluttered". I traditionally have made such comments and I didn't appreciatew the comments or think it was funny. Nothing more or less. So I might over-react, but at no time did I start making snotty or humorous comments about what people post from their own personal space. Nowadays, either people make comments about stuff I post, or my stuff gets ignored. Hardly ever get any kind of compliment these ... | |||||

| ... I think that there was a certain level of "discovery" necessary to appreciate their work. I also believe the designers, themselves, were well aware of this. (In fact many of the original forms from Mod design really go back to the 20s & 30s during the Art Deco Period. I scarcely think the Art Deco World, which I love BTW, was very accepting of this "new" streamlined design.) One would like to think that Charles and Ray Eames would like it that there is a whole new era of "discovery" involving their work. I don't think that people would take home MCM ... | |||||

| Brent you do not need to send... Brent you do not need to send them out at all. I used a guy who lives near Crystal Springs. He's a weird old fart with a long gray beard. Up until recently he didn't even have a phone. I would just drive out there and drop stuff off in his barn. No I am not kidding. But he lives there with his 90 something father who was also a master upholsterer who taught him everything he knows. This guy is a badass, I'm telling you. He has reupholstered midcentury pieces for me for years, and for insanely cheap. Almost to the point where ... | |||||
| I would be careful with vintage wind-up clocks | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | barrympls | General discussion | |
| I would be careful with vintage wind-up clocks I bought one vintage Nelson wind-up and it didn't work. I took it to my good local clock repair and lo and behold, the wind-up spring was wound too tight and had rusted. A total loss and that style of wind-up motor is not available anymore. I had to have a battery motor installed. Not the worst problem, but now the wind-up hole under the clock hands is just a hole! I have 3 wind-up later Umanoff clocks and only one of them keeps acturate time. All three have adjustable penduliums but I haven't able to adjust ... | |||||

I didn't thought the possibility of that, If you have experience in this kind of things (more than me) and see other options we are missing/clarifying, please feel free to tell us! Woof Woof-The beloved, My son also liked the calendar...sorry but I'll also put a bid... 🙂 Will be provably yours anyway. 😉 Fortunately I think he'll also will be happy one of the Matt Elem's prints. | Interested in Brown & Saltman Need more information on Brown Saltman for an acquaintance who wants to sell her furniture. It's beautiful. She said it was called "tangilly" but didn't know how to spell it. She said her family owned a furniture store in Los Angeles and Brown Saltman was one of the lines they sold. I've been looking online, but the info is sparse. The furniture is incredibly beautiful. Please tell me how I can find out more about your family's business.

| Value/Cachet or Attractiveness? I love this thread but it also has a dubious undercurrent: many of the posts detail how someone saw something at a cheap price, didn't necessarily like it very much, but had the inkling that it was designed by so-and-so. Either after buying the piece for a steal and discovering it was indeed by so-and-so, or after checking first then buying it, they now own the piece and are very pleased. What I found dubious is the way these things suddenly became attractive to their buyers. Of course if they are to be sold and can find other ... | |||||

| thank you..... but the embossed triangles (maybe v's) are definitely not the H & M together.... or even anything like it. I will take a picture when i get home from work this evening and post so you can see it. the triangles are found between the shock mounts, pretty much in the middle. i have seen the herman miller logo closer to the lip of the seat (almost exactly where my medallion sticker is). there is a the white chart sticker too.... i'm just wondering if i got a good deal on the chair and hoping i didn't get scammed. 🙂 thanks to all!! | |||||
