| Many thanks Simon. I was... Many thanks Simon. I was sure this sofa couldn't come from "nowhere", and Poul Norreklit is the kind of answer I like. I didn't know this story about Selectform. We learn everyday in this job ! I hope I can do the same for you one day (but not on danish furniture!). Have a good day. Luc | |||||

| Strange, I never posted the... Strange, I never posted the message above (garlic chicken ... Feb 23, 10) or rather, I didn't post it in response to this thread. Seems like it is something I may have said in another post a couple years ago or something. Or maybe I'm just losing it. Anyone else have this experience? Not losing it I mean, but having a post show up in a thread out of nowhere. I realize I veer off track at times, but this is odd. Or maybe it's a sign. This has been a hudsonhonu public service announcement. Thanks | |||||

| All I'm saying | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | fastfwd | General discussion | |
| All I'm saying is buyer beware. Here's a photo of that cracked tabletop. Look at the closeup of the repair -- they didn't even use the same kind of wood! And also a picture of a coffee table with that rough edge I mentioned. You can see that they started to make it smooth and straight, but then it looks like they just gave up halfway through. Guess that's what happens when the quitting-time whistle blows at the Nakashima factory: Everyone just turns off his power tools and ships whatever he's got if it's "good enough". Clearly, no one there has any sense ... | |||||

| I'll just leave it as it is... @ glassartist. Thanks for your advise. I guess I'm not going to do anything about it. I didn't wanted to color it, perhaps just apply a bit of penetrol. But I'm just going to leave it the way it is. @ Riki. Haha that's true. But perhaps because it's finished with paste, paint, etc. I have some vintage eames shells and even the colored ones you can still see some "hairs". That's what I people about them vintage ones. You can see the fibers in my bullet planter, they just don't look like hairs. What you see in my picture is the t ... | |||||

| Tag Sale It was a tag sale. They had a preview the day before it started which I didn't attend. I actually thought it was going to be a huge line on the opening day. Surprisingly not. I talked to some people who went to the preview and told me the prices were too high so that scared a few away. Things didn't sale quick. You could put up bids on an item if you didn't wanted to pay the price on the tag. Those type of sales are definitely a bittersweet experience. The fact that you are entering someones house, life etc...And of course the people who enters tryi ... | |||||

| ... that's how many of our US designaddicts feel about Herman Miller and Knoll furniture... I love Mathssons works, but I think he did most of his best designs within a very short time span, -basically 1933-1943. All of the important models, the 'Vilstol', 'Liggstol', and 'Arbetsstol', were designed in the mid thirties and after that he experimented with the construction for a few more years, adding armrests etc. These chairs are today known as Eva, Pernilla and Miranda etc, but they are essentially the same chairs as back then... Timeless designs in my opinion ... | |||||

| ... some sort of fiberglass-reinforced plastic. Like I mentioned it looks similar to melamine so it has more of a "plastic" feel. The reason why I ask is because I want to see if I can somehow restore some of it's color. It's faded. Don't mind it too much on the outside but on the inside. It's almost becoming white and I don't want to fill up the planter to the top. I took a quick closeup photo this morning but It didn't came out too god. Here it is. Thanks again! | |||||

| ankh1980... I just had the one chair, and as you remember, considered having it re-upholstered (in off-white) which would have looked fantastic - but the style itself just didn't seem to fit in my small living area. The other one was sold separately, but I believe they were a pair once. I still love the chair, it is sooo comfortable - also wonderful is the Platner low table that is constructed with the same metal work. One thing about the older Platner pieces - the metal has a patina that, to me, is much more handsome than the new raw metal. Whoever gets ... | |||||

| SDR, I agree about that block... SDR, I agree about that block. I'd like to get rid of it. It's a planter now, and we don't want a planter there. Today I was discussing it with a friend of mine who is a mid-century architect (I mean a real one, he's 90 and has designed some amazing homes in Redlands) about it. I thought about doing some sort of solid concrete facade there. If I take the block out, there will be a space to fill. I'm not sure. But I'd like to get rid of the slump block (I didn't realize that's what it was called) retaining wall as well. ... | |||||
