You made a slight at peoples' character who do have this sort of thing i.e. me without knowing the whys first. Olive simply said she didn't like it. You made assumptions about the character of the people who happen to disagree with you. Get it? Perhaps you're in a wad because I have a point? You basically said that you can judge my character based on the fact that I have a deer head. I find that to be insanely simple minded. Do you? Off to lunch. Deer sausage.

| First off, I'm afraid there's... First off, I'm afraid there's no way - no matter what - to date your chairs exactly, as to my knowledge the production years/dates were not stamped on these chairs - the fact Knoll didn't use stickers on their European version Tulips (unlike in the US) isn't going to help either...I've had 2 sets of these chairs, in both cases their history were known: the only difference I noticed between my late 50's and the mid-60's period Tulip chairs was the fabric used on the cushions (wool/cotton) - on both sets the cushions were attac ... | |||||

| No response, eh... I didn't expect any either. Why don't you take your two cent design IQ and piss off to a Mahogany Association forum... We'd all be better off for it and you'd fit in better no doubt. | |||||
| shock mounts | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | Poach | General discussion | |
| shock mounts What value do the shock mounts offer on an upholstered chair? The padding hides the fasteners, and any additional flex they'd provide is imperceptible. The additional holes were added to allow air to escape as the foam compresses. The early wire-on upholstery didn't require them, because the edges were not sealed. I'd agree that these holes were made in a pretty un-Herman Miller way: random in both placement and number. | |||||

| reactcreative We went to a local metal place here that did laser cutting. I took the hands off my vintage clocks to them and they made exact copies in aluminum. We have a friend who is an excellent wood turner, who made the face of the Pretzel clock for us, the arms for that clock were made at a blacksmiths shop. Took a couple tries for them to get it just right. I must give my friend most of the credit for the construction. He is a master wood worker and a real stickler for doing a job right. Anything he could figure out how to build on his own, or co ... | |||||

| I see both sides...don't... I see both sides...don't want to get into a big discussion. I respect your trade Pegboard, but the fact is that the old pieces that are driving money were made as a mass produced product, they were meant to sell, not as a piece of art. I know there are cases where this isn't the norm, like a limited run of something from a long time ago, but these pieces were designed to be used by a MASS audience. They didn't sell well in there day, so they were discontinued - now there is a demand for them again, and unfortunately it does dri ... | |||||

| YEAH, I have a "one that got away" story with this one... it was at an auction here in St. Louis and it went for $1800 IIRC. Next thing you know, there it is at Wright and sells for $8400...kicking myself on one hand, but on the other, I didn't know it was as rare as it is so that makes it sting a LITTLE less. | |||||

| I'd worry about the bath tile choice, but... the others all sound interesting to me. We ended up picking a 1x1 mosaic. I really didn't think I wanted that but in the end it just suited the space. The color that looks dark green in the photo is actually a true grey and the cream is actually more of a flatted butter yellow. With the cabinets and the concrete grey counter top it looks fab. I never concern myself with what's 'in' and what is or isn't trendy. I just make choices that fit the 3-F criteria... Function, Form and Finances! One thing I was thinking on ... | |||||

| ... many of these chairs, one was a wreck - I ended up spending £1500+ on it and it still wasn't a great example. People will pay silly money on eBay for a wrecked chair, if it was me and I would sell it on and look elsewhere. I was watching this chair on eBay but didn't go for it as A) A lot of people on there don't seem very honest, maybe out of choice or maybe by ignorance, and B) Due to the above, it's just too much hassle sorting these in this condition. | one thing I learned about prices and value here at DA: "An item is worth what someone is willing to pay at a given point in time (and space)." I bet there a few people here who, like me, didn't pay anywhere near those wright/ebay prices. All you need is patience, time and the will to search intensely, someday you'll find what you want for the price you want to pay (or it'll find you, but that would be very zen). | |||||

(1) "The Stalking" If I'm "Facebook stalking," I guess I'd like to know about it, given that I didn't waste much time besides looking up the words "Eames Aluminum Lounge chair" and "Herman Miller Aluminum Lounge Chair" on Google with the intent of purchasing one, and finding (a) A Craiglist post with exactly similar pictures to what was on (b) a Design Addict post reviewing how to identify a vintage Herman Miller Aluminum Lounge chair. Hardly stalking, and no more than 30 seconds to see that two pictures looked similar, and to make note ...
