| No doubt the material of... No doubt the material of choice looks different then the chair. However i had 16ft of rebar with no use in mind. I didn't have an eifel chair when i built this table, I printed out pics from different angles and went from there .Got two chairs now the table really works well with all the steel in my living room. | |||||

| Where did I first hear "Knowledge Is Power"?? In the 1958 movie, "Auntie Mame". This whole conversation reminds me of finding the 2nd Bob Dylan album at a thrift shop in NYC in 1982 for a buck and sold it for $12,345,67. Why so much? It was a stereo copy and it contained 4 songs that were removed prior to release and (supposidly) all copies were destroyed. I was lucky enough to have found one and even though I didn't know the whole story back then, I certainly understood that the cover said the first cut was "Blowing In The Wind" and it was not listed on ... | |||||

| It is very comfy indeed. I... It is very comfy indeed. I did not realize how thick they made the upper back cushion. I didn't think Texas would have much of this stuff but I've been surprised. | |||||

| I agree, but, my friend... ...who is a very jaded mid century dealer thought they might be something much more exotic. He's been doing his job for about 50 years, so I trust his opinion. He hasn't gotten back to me about what he was able to find, so I am just putting them out there. I didn't want to influence lookers by mentioning a name. They could easily turn out to be nothing, but can't hurt to ask. | |||||
| Why not restore to the original intent? | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | Poach | General discussion | |
| Why not restore to the original intent? I didn't notice the original b&w shots. Definitely, if you can restore the perforated concrete blocks, do so. Having the early photos begs the question: why not go with the original high-contrast look? It's beautiful. I'd match the posts to whatever color you're using for the wide horizontal mass, whether it's light (like in the image I altered) or dark, as seen in the early image. I wouldn't want that strong horizontal line to get all chopped up. I fudged some perf blocks into the images for a couple more views. | |||||

| No, the loveseat doesn't seem to work, visually. Why would we assume it might ? You can't change one dimension of an object without affecting the appearance of all the parts. The barely-adequate seat thickness now looks really weak. It may very well BE weak, in fact. . . As for the chair as Wegner designed it, I admit it's odd -- though the leg angles don't bother me. If the chair works structurally and is comfortable (the origin of those unusual cantilevered arms is to allow a sideways posture when desired), then we have to accept the design as complet ... | |||||

| I have only seen two of Gehry's buildings in person... One, at Grant Park in Chicago and the disney Concert Hall. Both look rather stunning in person and photograph really well. BUT, when you walk around them, they look like a rollercoaster ride of scaffolding propping them up. I would not have a problem whatsoever with Gehry's buildings if the exteriors translated to equally intriguing spaces, on "the other side" of them. The two examples I have seen did not. Watching "Sketches of Frank Gehry" made me like his work even less. I also really feel like archite ... | |||||

| I should add, with respect... I should add, with respect to Ford and dc, I didn't get stuck in the pasture with the Galaxie 500. The trouble came from the fact that I had to drive over some corn to get to the pasture. And I was around eight or nine. Most kids where I'm from don't start driving cars until they are at least ten. | |||||

| Well, that wouldn't have been... Well, that wouldn't have been the first time the mechanism was damaged with an apple, but look where it brought us ... Thanks, dc. My memory is actually fading, but luckily my father had one like a steel trap, and my mother claims I didn't fall far from the tree. One real annoying schoolmate, I recall, rode several miles screaming on the trunk of the Montclair coming home from a golf tournament in Callaway, Nebraska, circa 1973. * | |||||

| ... engines and trannies were strong enough. Ford followed suit some years later, and my father forecast that the US car companies would come to a bad end, if they didn't "...regain their senses and go back to making real cars." He said, "With out a good strong frame in a Ford, or a Chevy, you just might as well buy a damned Volkswagen, or a Renault Dauphine, or a Toyota Corona. At least those scrap boxes on wheels are cheap on gas." We told him he had to quit buying these small block engines, so we could have more pick up and more top speed. Or we said he had ... | |||||

| barry I agree the benches are great. I had one. I just didn't think the Nelson bench was very useful. It hurt my ass to sit on, and things were too wobbly or fell through used as a table. I would have kept it if I had enough room for useless objects, but at 1240 sq ft I do not. I didn't sell bc of the quality. It was top notch. | |||||
