| I didn't feel that it was... I didn't feel that it was "all about Eames", and most of the musicians were based in LA or the Bay Area, so... I'll agree that they didn't really have any barriers or protection for the exhibits. i saw plenty of morons handling the furniture like they were in someone's living room. After a few thousand people do that something bad is bound to happen. The exhibit did look better in LA than the somewhat shabby set up they had in Oakland. But maybe that's just the difference between Newport Beach and Oaktown. Just sayin'... | |||||

| Didn't DWR use to sell this chair? I was at a local DWR looking at their floor samples on clearance and they were selling the showroom bellini chair. Weird. | |||||

| She did suggest a remote possibility of ditching the table, so I didn't think it out of line to comment on it. I concur with Riki-- molded plastic chairs wouldn't agree with this table. Were it me, I'd cut my losses and get rid of it, rather than design around it. | |||||

| I didn't want to hijack this thread since the poster asked about chairs, but since WHC brought up the table. . . . Is it "married"? It looks like a newish Theodore Alexander or Maitland Smith top mounted on top of a much older frieze and base. Maybe it's just the flash of the camera or something but the finish looks different on the top and the bottom. Anyway, lotus, it seems like you are already stepping outside the box using that center hall table as a dining table. You will really be going off the chain if you surround it by lucite. Just my two cents. | |||||

| I didn't know Knoll's prices... I didn't know Knoll's prices could get any higher. So it'll change the 10K sofa to a 14K sofa? Who cares, I wouldn'd spend that anyway .... might as well be a million. | |||||

| I didnt I didn't do any of the work on it - but I asked around. My local dealer has an upholsterer who wouldnt to it. Another guy on the west coast simply said "too much work, too much money" I think the biggest issue is getting the fabric taut enough between the frames. It requires a real precision, otherwise it sags a little bit. Also wrapping the ends very tightly seems to be difficult. I'd love to find one cheap enough that I could pull it apart and play with it - see how it really works. | |||||

| didn't work for me I tried epoxy on one of mine and it held for all of five minutes. This was after it had many days to set up, harden, cure, etc. My brother, an amateur boat builder and master stair carpenter, told me that marine epoxy might work because it remains slightly flexible once it has cured. I meant to try it but never got around to it and finally sold the damn chairs. I do not regret it for an instant. | |||||

| This designer didn't make thi... This designer didn't make this so you don't have to use a bookend. He/she designed it because they don't have a clue about the nature of designing purely. Good design solves problems, and this just creates them. A better idea for the bookend theory, and perhaps a less witty one, is a horizontal shelf with simple curved rod bookends that can screw in to little holes drilled the entire length - so that it can be adjustable and placed anywhere the user desires. Plus it would prevent the irritating tendency for them to slip out o ... | |||||

| I am really glad I didn't... I am really glad I didn't jump on this first house. It looks like the modernist community is becoming a very possible solution for me. I got pre-approved already and things are looking good. I won't know 100% until next month. For me, all the positives of this project outweigh any negatives it might have. I hope it works out. I understand the institutional thing ... there are parts of me that love eclectic neighborhoods and part of me that fantasizes about an architecturally consistent neighborhood built with good taste. Both hav ... | |||||

| It seems the discussion is... It seems the discussion is going toward distinct definitions, the way isms sometimes do, one being more toward an aesthetic championing of the uncluttered environment and the other being more toward what I think of when the term minimalism is used, the school definition, which for me seems to fall - in Koen's terms - primarily to mannerism, the stripping down of something essentially for the sake of stripping it down, which doesn't, in my opinion, always achieve clarity. A friend told me a while back that he tried the cap M mini ... | |||||
