| SDR The first thing I did was google for info about finishes and that's where I got all the conflicting information! One site said to never use polyurethane but the guys who made the table top for me recommended that before anything else. I used the rub-on polyurethane on the jatoba top in the photo and didn't have any trouble with overlap, but I did have to do seven or eight coats before it had an even sheen. Maybe the unevenness is what you are calling overlap. Your oak looks great with the filled grain in green, but I definitely want just the natural co ... | |||||

| Here's the story... The fella I bought it off said it was a "really early" one. So if that were the case, the shockmounts are all wrong. But I'm thinking he didn't know what he was on about. There's no evidence the shocks have been repositioned. They just look like those that people are using as replacements these days. The chair does have the wide mounting points, front and back. I didn't think about that. Modernica shells wouldn't carry those would they? I haven't seen too many of them honestly. The condition of the chair is throwing me off a bit as well. ... | |||||

| Oh, right... ...that pesky feature of the Wegner chairs with this kind of weave. I ran into the same problem with my rocker. I assumed it wasn't any big deal when I ripped out the original (stained) seat so I didn't pay close attention to how those front corner were wrapped, otherwise I would have taken a lot of photos. As I recall, I started out wrapping each end of the front rail and then proceeding with the seat weave. One corner looked exactly right but the the first strand on the other dipped lower than subsequent strands and ruined the look. I redi ... | |||||

| ... at MIT; they're using Macs: http://www.apple.com/science/profiles/mit/index.html As you'd know if you'd attended the school, there are LOTS of Macs and Mac users at MIT. I searched, though, and couldn't find the words "Mac", "Macintosh", or "Apple" in ANY of the course descriptions on ITT Tech's website (although I did find plenty of references there to Microsoft and Linux). 2. "Mac didn't design the case first." It's well known that Apple diD design the original Mac case first -- why do you suppose it looked so different from every other personal compute ... | |||||

People must have looked after their teak veneer furniture in the 1950s somehow. How did they do it? What polish was used? | |||||

| Everybody? | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | jennocide | General discussion | |
| Everybody? Um, design comes waaaay after technology. Mac didn't design the case first. We programmers don't design the interface first. We always always always design function first. Function is the only thing that matters with real technology. Ever. Programmers don't think "oooh design" when it comes to platform. We think code to make function. After alllll that hard work is done, it is passed on to a front end programmer. That person gets a graphics person....then, design comes into play. Design of the future will depend upon our technology. Technology won ... | |||||

| plastic veneers!!!! G Plan, though often wrongly used to describe generic British mid-century furniture, was (and no doubt still is)a good quality brand. We sell and restore lots of British and Danish furniture and find the good and bad in both. G Plan certainly didn't use plastic veneers or wood effect anything, admittedly they were a little heavier handed with the glossy finishes than Danish manufacturers but that just reflected the British tastes of the time. If anything it helps to protect the veneers, it is after all not too difficult to strip and refin ... | |||||

| It could go...either way I have 4 of those Chinese knockoff Nelson clocks (Eye, Steering Wheel, Blue Block and Turbine) and they seem to be made exactly like the Vitra's. When it comes to furniture, of course, they could be crap, or they could be contructed as well as the originals.... After all, didn't they take an original apart and replocate it? | |||||

| hi adamfowler im addicted (strong word but true) to both art & design but didn't neccessary feel the need to show my whole collection but you did bring to the forum an interesting opinion. I have a trained or educated eye and generally I buy what I like and more often than not it equates to money well spent/invested. the beauty of art & design is the 'thrill of the chase', research and then that 'shit what a find' comment | |||||
