| Thanks Riki! I checked... Thanks Riki! I checked with my parents and there is indeed a Thonet label on the underside. I didn't have the chance to check myself, since the chair is at their place. Any thoughts about the age? | |||||

| SDR Yes, please do report stuff like this to Ebay when you see it, and let the seller know that you know what he's up to (calmly, with facts---no value judgments are necessary). Ebay does let a lot of thing slide but they do take action now and then. I've been buying and selling on Ebay since 1998 and I'm quite that it would be a far worse place if they didn't allow members to report shady dealings. | |||||

| Ok, so both the chair and... Ok, so both the chair and the cap seem to be originals. But the cap is not the original cap for this specific chair. I can live with that. My main concern was that the whole chair was fake, since I didn't recognize the cap. The seller told me that she didn't know how old the chair was and that she and her husband had bought it on an auction about two years ago. I paid about 200 EUR (270 USD) which I thought was a fair price since the chair is in such a nice condition. All in all I really like the chair and I think it looks great ... | |||||

| "So long as you get the best... "So long as you get the best price, right?" Which is something we all want isn't it? No need to eviscerate Ark. Nice Guy/Ark didn't articulate this well, but he does make a point. In the end, for most of us, morality takes a backseat to desires and necessities. How often do you inquire into the responsibility of a business/product? What I don't agree with is the ambivalence of NiceGuys remark. What we do with our money does make an impact. Loonies can be marginalized with a lack of money...followers will look elsewhere fo ... | |||||

| But how do we feel about burning, drowning or shredding? A really bad reproduction or, even, Jeremiah? Frankly, I'm shocked that this whacko is Dos Bananos. He had pretty good stuff a few years ago and I am so, so, so glad that I didn't buy anything from him because I would feel obligated to consign it to Good Will or something. | |||||

| Olive There's a whole movement of "art quilters" inspired by women like those of Gee's Bend. It goes back maybe 20 years...? I was part of it in the 90s though I didn't do too many abstract quilts. Thousands of dollars per quilt is on the low end of what some of these artists get. Check out the work of Nancy Crow. I was acquainted with her back when I was into that stuff and I admire her and her work a lot. The link below is to Google images of Nancy Crow's work and I think other peoples' pieces that are similar. She used to do a lot of classes and wor ... | |||||
| Might we suggest a product by Jasco? | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | Olive | General discussion | |
| Might we suggest a product by Jasco? And w-h-c...some of us DO read directions! I do...always, even for the obvious. My dad insisted on this habit when I was young and I'm glad...it saves a lot of hassle! That reminds me of a story...once upon a time a friend and I experienced her car breaking down out in the dark one night. She, not being a tool user, let me go see what I could see, and taking the fancy flashlight she'd gotten from her dad I went to have a look at the engine. Her dad was one smart guy and had gotten her a very nice emergency light, I knew s ... | |||||

| I'm not so sure | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | LuciferSum | General discussion | |
| I'm not so sure The armrests do look a little thick, but the rest of the chair looks good. The distressed leather could be a special order - saddle type leather or something. One has to ask some other questions to ascertain for sure. Like WHERE is this chair? What is the price? What is the back story? If you have seen the chair in person, why didn't you look underneath for stickers? If it's a new-ish chair it should bear markings. If you are going to see the chair, pop one of the cushions off. The inside of the shell should be veneered with the same ma ... | |||||

| No joke. It's killer... No joke. It's killer compared to all the crap out there now. Just google image it and see! A Christening plate is something they give you after you are spinkled in the church as a baby. Why you need a plate to commemorate your salvation I don't know. My church growing up didn't Christen, we Baptized. We just got dunked in a swimming pool and celebrated afterwards with fried chicken and a pool party. | |||||

| Oops, posted again before I... Oops, posted again before I read your response, whitespike. I hope I didn't imply embarrassment with regard to your (or my) display items. I was speaking personally. But here's why I think I don't like china cabinets in general. They tend to say louder than almost any other platform -- even when they are not trying -- look at me. | |||||

| I feel the same way about a product called "Goof Off"-- It's evil! Use it at your own risk. You've all seen Ridley Scott's 'Alien', right? It's like the alien's blood. (And-- no, I diDN'T read the instructions carefully. WHO reads instructions?) | |||||

| ughh.... It's mostly my fault for just trying to rush and remove the paint without doing proper research. Live and Learn right? I will say that I read the back of the label on the Jasco can and didn't see that I shouldn't use it on fiberglass. Dang! Maybe I scanned the label and not read it:) I'm going to blame starbucks too! I'll try the soy product...I have a lemon yellow with a painted back. thanks! | |||||

| I guess Pegboard answers the... I guess Pegboard answers the question that of whether McCobb invented the concept of a room divider -- clearly he didn't. But McCobb might have designed the first piece of furniture that was designed specifically to be a room divider, and actually called a room divider. Nelson case pieces on benches might make great room dividers, but that isn't what they are. Still seems to me like McCobb may have invented the dedicated room divider as a piece of furniture. | |||||
