| haha, you guys | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | Spanky | General discussion | |
| haha, you guys Mark, next time you bleed on your shirt, just spit on it. Spit eradicates blood somehow. I stabbed myself with a tufting needle the other day. They are about 30 times the size of a sewing needle. It didn't bleed too much, though---possibly because of the swelling from the blow. Such a dangerous profession... | |||||

| to the OP I know you guys probably didn't do it intentionally, but your new ad shouldn't use Hans Wegner's name in association with the chair. Wegner was a Danish designer who had the most fleeting brush with the Eames in the 1940s - long before they created the 670 lounge. None of Wegner's pieces have ever been made in America. As a personal opinion I wouldn't compare the quality of a copy to the original Eames lounge. The quality is drastically different, which is what accounts for their price disparity. Also, the consensus was not that this is the *best ... | |||||

| Dor-Val mfg ah crap, you got me there hamacbleu... Didn't notice the caption below the picture. Found an interesting description of that chair here: http://www.bauhaus2yourhouse.com/products/michael-thonet-designed-chair-811 Also, I found that TON, apart from claiming that they're the oldest producer of bentwood furniture there is, is not the original company Michael Thonet founded. That company still exists today, and is run by his descendants: http://www.thonet.com/?target=about . So much for that. That being said, I stripped the paint on one of my white armchair and stained it a nice walnut color. I got the original look, just like in the ads - and much more true to the original. | |||||

| Nah... The slotted back of the Wegner rocker didn't make it harder. It was just those damn 90 degree angles! Good luck with yours. Please post about it, whatever you decide to do. | |||||

| ... soak in water---like 20 seconds or something like that---to make it easier to bend it. Wetting it does make it more flexible but the plies tend to untwist when it's wet. I dunno. I have wove the seat of my Wegner J16 rocker two or three times with paper cord and could not get it right. Someday I'll attempt it again. The video below is of the guy who does a lot of (all of?) the seats for Fritz Hansen. You can kind of see the effort he puts into getting the cord tight and straight. Or maybe that's only obvious after you've tried it and didn't get it tig ... | |||||
| My cats | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | barrympls | General discussion | |
| My cats both around 16yo, seems to have handled the front-paw declawing just fine back when I had it done. They're indoor cats and I didn't want my furniture clawed up. As far the cat hair goes, it's a bottom line issue; if you like good furniture and cats you learn to deal with the hair. Plain and simple. And if your cats are going to stay as indoor cats, then the dwclawing (which I had done when they were fixed), didn't seem to affect either of them in any way. | |||||

| ... with an appreciation of cats could tinker with their basic design-- cats NEED their claws (and, even if they didn't, I'd never inflict any unnecessary pain or trauma on my little black beauty). Same goes for dogs, and the cruel & silly habit of cropping their ears and docking their tails. | |||||

| Soft paws/claws We used to live in a flat so our cat was kept indoors. To protect the furniture we used soft paws to cover his claws. They didn't bother him at all. We used the coloured ones once and then changed to clear after most people expressed horror at us painting our cats nails! | |||||
| hinge was probably replaced | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | farmery | General discussion | |
| hinge was probably replaced Looking at the photos I took of the other hinges (yes I know how stupid was that?), it looks like this particlar hinge is a different color. The other hinges have more of a brass coloring to them while this one has a titanium coloring. Perhaps what happened is that someone pushed the door open way too far, broke the hinge there and took out a piece of wood from the door. Then they replaced the hinge there but didn't bother to fill in the wood. A bit of research on the web indicates that the piece can go for quite a bit in retail w ... | |||||

| ... ottoman was one of them. I didn't really care that much; it was early and I was less interested in telling my 'story' to the cameras. I was more interested in seeing a Grasshopper chair and ottoman spotlighted on the show. I was given a modest valuation - $2,500.00. I also brought my Nicolas Vlavianos 1971 brutal sculpture ashtray in and the metals and sculpture table didn't know anything about the artist and they were noncommited about its value. No matter. I enjoyed going, not having to wait in line and I was out of there by 10:22AM! Interesting sideno ... | |||||

| more photos We went and took a closer look at the credenza today. Generally the credenza is in a good shape, very sturdy and the wood has no marks on top, front or the sides. I tried to look for a maker's mark but it was packed with stuff so I didn't find anything other than a Danish sticker. The only issue is that on the left side of it there is a piece of wood missing from the door near the hinge. The door functions just fine so it is purely cosmetic. There is also a small piece of wood missing from the corner of the left drawer. I have included these phot ... | |||||

| Heath, i agree! obviously declawing is a north-american "speciality" and uncommon or even forbidden in many other countries. i didn't know about it ether. there's an interesting wikipedia article (link below). now, this is Pablo, he's a ragdoll and never claws at furniture. quite a docile breed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Declawing | |||||
