| Why is this thread angry sounding? Jeeze, everyone wants to fight... Nice job tiny on your expensive replacement runners. they look good, and closer to originals then New well made cheaper reproductions, and for you bargain dealers modernica and modern conscience is where its at!!! (btw...whos to say that the rope edge RAR's back in the day didn't look close to our newly produced rocker bases when hot off the assembly line in 1953, I know they are made with different materials, but everything is newly made at one point or another.) Happy threading! | |||||

| I used to have one but I sold... I used to have one but I sold it---just didn't need another chair of that type. It's a nice one. The cushions on that one need welt for a more finished look but otherwise it's nice. eta: I would look for one in teak or at least oiled walnut. The one I had was walnut with a glossy varnish finish, which I didn't care for so much. | |||||

| My first thought was that it ... My first thought was that it is from a Scan store. They sold a lot of stuff like this in the 70s and 80s---made in Denmark, sort of Danish Modern in style but not especially noteworthy as far as design. I saw a similar clock at an auction once. It didn't have any marks or labels either, just a Made in Denmark stamp. | |||||

| LRF, I'm not sure if youre... LRF, I'm not sure if youre kidding or not. Steve Jobs was nothing more than a glorified car salesman. He did not design anything. He didn't program a single line of code and he was not an industrial designer. As for doing design on a PC? There is absolutely no difference, infact 2 of the largest design companies switched to PC over 8 years ago. | |||||

| RE: Lunchbox/ SDR Sigh....I repeat...I had the original runners repaired and have them in my closet. My only reason for having replicas made was so I didn't have any more wear and tear on the original runners but could have the chair out for every day use and not have little heart palpitations every time it's used. The original runners this baby came with saw heavy use, I didn't want to add more to it but still wanted the chair too look as good as it should - hence having custom runners made from the exact specs of the originals. As I said I also had the br ... | |||||
| So . . . | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | SDR | General discussion | |
| So . . . the only thing I didn't learn here was "How to not ruin Eames Original Rocker Runners" ! did I miss something, early on ? I think the poster did just the right thing -- had a pair of runners made of a solid piece of the correct material. Of course a new piece of wood is going to look. . .new. I have long counseled those caring for old wooden houses to replace deteriorated wood with new -- unapologetically -- in the time-honored manner. Clinging to "original fabric" is for curators and historians. The rest of us get along just fine with "new shi ... | |||||
| Logo location | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | TinyArmada | General discussion | |
| ... HM started using it when a lot of knock-offs started entering the market. On the old chairs they used paper labels, specifically red & black checkerboard labels on the earlyexamples which are prone to come off. So HM started to use something more permanent to label their authorized chairs. Like I said there are eames chair experts here that can tell you more than I can about it. I only know to look for that logo because it's a quick way to know if you are dealing with a modern authorized HM piece. Or the lack of it on a piece with all the right indicators, ... | |||||

| ... have been someone tossing it because they didn't know the chairs cost a bit but because they didn't want to either invest or trouble with repairs - or didn't think it could be repaired. (Rich people can be funny that way, I had a friend who had furnished there apt in NYC wonderfully by picking thru garbage in rich sections of manhattan) Even though it's a relatively new chair fixing it up should be worth it, as long as it's not tons of money. Doing it yourself will ensure the price will stay reasonable for fixing. Reselling can be an issue with b/c you will ... | |||||

| Two of you commented that... Two of you commented that you didn't like the modern50 or factory20 website layout. What web browser do you use? Or are you looking at the site on a smart phone or pad device? I am an XP microsoft devotee, and use a non flash version of firefox to browse with, mostly because I dislike macromedia flash sites. I rather like the web layout and the non flash environment. I have always liked that site for its raw simplicity. I also like this one for layout and simplicity: http://keithweesner.com/ | |||||

| No, they hadn't. Ok, I've answered my own question. In 2004, DWR was still selling knockoffs of Mies' designs; they didn't become a Knoll retailer until June 2005. So... If your daybed was purchased from DWR in 2004, it was their "Pavilion" knockoff manufactured by an anonymous Italian firm and priced at around $1695. http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=66169&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=... | |||||

| Quite an interesting design!... Quite an interesting design! It would be absolutely perfect if only the leaves were also somehow stored in the desk. Do you know if this desk was originally designed this way or if it was modified to extend? It's very clever. Somebody should make a contemporary version of this. I'd probably buy one if I didn't have a long built-in desk in my office. | |||||

| and more I didn't have to go to the trouble of copying and printing original labels as I'd just take them off the back of the frame in auction houses as I assume Modernesia has done, either way it leads to provenance and it is called theft/fraud/deception. I was caught by the wife of a very prominent artist 2 years after I'd originally sold it at an auction....2 years and thousands of miles where I was residing....My point is Modernesia it will bite you in the ass it's just a matter of when cause it's seriously hangin' out! | |||||
