| The light elm | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | Robert Leach | General discussion | |
| The light elm has been the finish of choice for a long time, but they have recently produced ebonised versions of some models which are proving popular. (I didn't chip in ealier as I thought the OP was looking for an non-British overview of the brand) http://www.ercol.com/ercoloriginalsblack.html | |||||

| original finish. it seems to me your tabletop had the original finish. by time and use this 'layer' obviously gets thinner, wich give the piece it's age. in my eyes it's the patina that makes the difference with these aalto pieces. I wonder why you didn't research or consult this forum before you began. in the 'after' shots your top as it looks now shows damage to the top layer or veneer. you'll have to repair this, maybe with a grainfiller or something like that. after this you will need to sand it slightly (it is still veneer). let a professional or knowle ... | |||||

| I don't know if this helps at... I don't know if this helps at all, but I just stripped down two Wegner CH23 chairs that need new woven seats and they don't have any marks at all. None. I thought I'd find something under the cord but I didn't. They are very, very early--brought here by someone who emigrated from Denmark in the 50s. Surely someone knows if early Wegner chairs in general were not marked? Also, the ones I have are very dark with age, though of course they are oak and teak and not beech like the rockers. Do you know what wood your rocker is? ... | |||||

| Will you please stop... Will you please stop spamming the forum with multiple posts. I am also very confused by your postings as both say you found chairs for $240...seems like spam postings but I could be wrong. also your photo didn't work. as for the saarinen grass hoppers why don't you get a different vehicle to transport them...renting a Uhaul for $20 is easier than disassembling/potentially devaluing something that could be quite valuable. | |||||

| ... so I put up this thread asking the OP to list it on Radar to give us a chance of contacting him /her as radar allows messaging and to put the photo here for general consumption as it might be of interest to others without them wanting to purchase it. I am a premium member of the Radar section and so I have no idea of the fee structure etc for others who post small ads, I fired off this thread this morning from work when I saw the other was removed. I was on autopilot writing the thread and didn't think to dot the I's and cross the T's ....not that I think ... | |||||

| well.... Well, I saw the chairs in person. They had a Made in Denmark branded? mark, but no other identifying labels. The construction didn't seem to be of the highest quality, but at least two bidders sure wanted them. They sold to a phone bidder for $1000/pr. I didn't know they took phone bids for these backyard estate auctions...but I guess if the price is right anything goes. | |||||

| it worked Pulled off the backing and noticed that someone for sure tried to stain this thing and didn't even seal it with a coat of poly. Well looks like I'm going to have to put a little elbow grease to restore this think but it sure will be a beaut once it's done. Anyone have any idea who it could be by or just a random brand? Looks very much like an Arne Jacobson style chair I saw in a local shop except it didn't have swivel base. | |||||

| benttree Sorry, I didn't see your post until just now. No, I don't think it's possible to repair this kind of woven seat the way you're suggesting. The paper cord isn't rigid enough to get through the existing spaces in the weave if you want to just replace individual strands. There's also no way it'll match. You'll also have the problem of the seat continuing to fail. If it's old enough that some strands have broken, then more will soon follow. Reweaving the entire seat isn't that hard and you'll end up with a new seat that will last a few decades. Or j ... | |||||

| no, nothing else.... There were two additional Danish lounge chairs but they didn't have cushions. Also, since I don't have my own store I need to figure in the additional profit a store would want to make on them. Yes, the caning was quality, and the arm rests were nicely sculpted. But the frame seemed kind of crude. The rear legs were made of two parallel pieces of wood which then branched out to form part of the back rest, and part of the seat. The joint was too visible I thought. Also, the frame member cross sections were all square, with just some ... | |||||

| This makes me laugh | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | TinyArmada | General discussion | |
| This makes me laugh I am laughing at this because it was not just two weeks ago my GF and I were at an estate sale and sure enough, items had been painted...green. We didn't realize it at the time when we purchased two lamps there that they, too were actually painted green until we got them home and started to clean them up - and noticed paint on the rag. I imagine it can be removed - and for that price I would snap it up if I was a Brit. - A.S. | |||||
