| Well said. I completely agree with Pegboard and bobbdavs. I believe that I tried making a similar point about the issue of of forum content a few months back. I didn't find anything terribly wrong with Riki's original post. The way I read it was that she was making a valid point reinforced with a bit of humor, but I guess that's the problem with the Internet; things can be taken the wrong way. Unless of course, you are blatantly calling someone **** breath, telling them to blow you, insinuating that they give blow jobs or love ****. There should be no place ... | |||||

| Thanks, SDR. Now I will dislike stone veneer for the rest of my days! (Seriously, though, thanks--there was something about it that always bugged me but I never really thought about it much. Other than that the outside corners were always obviously fake. I didn't get as far as the lintels and other details.) | |||||

But -- wobetide -- the facts prevail. So it is with any Hi-Tech art object, such as the Pompidou Center or Lloyds of London tower -- there's more than a little sex and glitz in those design decisions. ditto the DCW-LCW. didn't the Eameses show their sweetest curves ? Engineers occasionally make beauty all by themselves, and I'd trust a number of anonymous structural engine ...

| I expect all that overscaled hardware is the intended expression. We can't assume, because it doesn't suit our taste, that the designers have made an unintentional move, or error. . .it seems to me. If one didn't care for this look, one would stay away from the piece altogether ? Thanks for the additional photos. Burdick was a San Francisco designer, as I recall it ? | |||||

| Not 100% Sadly didn't get the opportunity to get a proper look but was working on the assumption that it was similar to this: http://www.deconet.com/decopedia/object/2378/Square_dining_table_with_2_... Hope that helps... | |||||

| The contract base looks much... The contract base looks much nicer on these tables. Too bad they didn't opt for it on the chair itself. With the original look of the seat fabric that would have been awesome. | |||||

| Thanks, Spanky. Good information. I didn't know they played CF instruments at the inauguration, but of course it makes sense -- no musician would subject his expensive wooden instrument to freezing temperatures if it could be avoided. Although we agree that musical instruments are one of the very few areas where wood might actually be the best material, manufacturers may soon be forced to use new materials anyway. The brazilwood from which bows are made is endangered and already subject to trade restrictions, and the number of giant Sitka spruce trees -- f ... | |||||

| Mark, from your cheekiness I... Mark, from your cheekiness I take it you must be IN hell?or, you're a fellow bitter New Yorker. In case you didn't get it: I'm selling the sofa AS IS. So the buyer will either purchase a base for it?or not. With or without the base it's still a kickass design piece several people already want. I'm just asking the community for suggestions on a fair price range. | |||||

Thus, Unto This Last are upholding Morris's legacy in more ways than it might appear upon cursory examination, even if they eschew the dogma of hand-creation. And you couldn't in any way call this large-scale production. It's just one shop with a single router attached to a single computer. In other words, a tool. And even Morris didn't forswear tools.

| Thanks everyone. I'm glad we figured it out. It was VERY difficult to weave this chair. I kept telling my husband that everyone on this forum said it was doable. My receipt says Danish Cord 1/8" laced and I still have it, so I know we didn't check the wrong box! I also ordered danish nails with it which they sent. I really hope they will exchange and reimburse for shipping. This spool wasn't cheap! I will give them a call Monday. Thanks again. | |||||
