| Mine has been reupholstered a... Mine has been reupholstered and I don't think photos will be much use to you; HOWEVER, I do have one bit of advice. Make sure you specify the density of the foam to your upholsterer. I wasn't very familiar with upholstery work at the time mine was done, and this thought didn't even cross my mind -- as a result, my sofa is far too soft. It's extremely comfortable, but it's not correct at all. (Sad face.) | |||||

| Normally I would suggest... Normally I would suggest it's someone's unfortunate d.i.y idea, or maybe a special order from Herman Miller. didn't Vitra do a version all in black way back in the 70's? | |||||

| Great stuff Thanks Spanky for all your work. If soap flakes are the best way to go, I'll start looking into all that right away. The spindles do taper a bit in both directions. Robert1960, sorry I didn't have better pics. I was shocked to be standing in front of a Wegner chair and thought how often is this going to come around? And hey, it's just paint right? 🙂 Thanks again, gentlemen. http://4jjwright@gmail.com | |||||

| Vatne 807 Forget black and tan, how about red?! Hi all, I just found this website and thread while doing a search to try and find out more about my much-loved chair. I tried doing this a number of years ago but didn't find anything much, but you guys have answered my questions! thanks especially to Amund for great details. Sometimes I love the internet! I found my red treasure about 12 years ago at an auction house here in Sydney. Back then, at least in Australia, neither retro or modern design were very popular...and there were mostly dealers only at ... | |||||

| J. J. I didn't mean to imply that you paid too much in saying that I got mine for so little, just that I am still stunned by my good luck. I think you paid a great price and there is a lot to be said for supporting a thrift shop of that type. (Though I think in these parts, Goodwill might not have put it out on the floor at all---unless maybe someone spotted the mark on it and knew a thing or two). Found LuciferSum's tips on using soap flakes: http://www.designaddict.com/design_addict/forums/index.cfm/fuseaction/th... | |||||

| Found it A little info on using soap flakes on paper cord (towards the end). He mentions using it on paper cord on Wegner wishbone chairs too and I think I remember that discussion on this board. I didn't read the other responses on this thread before I posted mine. At first I thought y'all were joking about the patina---or were you? There's patina and then there's...well, more what I'd call just plain damage. I think this much distress to the finish takes away from the beauty of this chair. PS--just had a big discussion with my kids tonight about wheth ... | |||||

| Thanks to those that are... Thanks to those that are trying to ID the sofa but nico59 is right. It is a Florence Knoll sofa but I didn't know the base was of walnut. I was just trying to find out the time period it was possibly made. It appears that Knoll doesn't even sell the florence knoll sofa with the wood base anymore. | |||||

| I?m also pretty sure... I?m also pretty sure the dining table in the Hollyhock (barnsdale) house has a slate top. I've taken the tour there a few times and I seem to remember that fact being stated on the tour. Although i could be wrong. As Nico59 and robert1960's photo's show, they do exist. Now, from my understanding there is only one furniture company authorized to reproduce Frank Lloyd designs by the Frank Lloyd Wright preservation trust is a company called Copeland Furniture. http://www.copelandfurniture.com/category_flw.php I contacted the trust and t ... | |||||

| Locks I did say that I was theorizing, didn't I? It's interesting that your dry bar has a different lock from the one we displayed at NYC 20. The lock on your chest is consistent with directional production post 1957, specifically it is consistent with the locks used on the McCobb Living Wall units produced after 1959 which were also produced by H. Sacks and Sons. This just might give greater credence to the chance that locks on the dry bars were optional after a certain point in production. | |||||

Sanding can expose fresh fibers that often look drab and anemic next to nicely aged surfaces. The good news: No matter what treatment you choose, the freshly-sanded maple will eventually darken and even out to be hardly noticeable in comparison. A good refinisher can certainly return the bench to near as-new condition, though these pieces are somewhat challenging and labor-intensive because the construction presents so many ind ... | |||||
