| What waffle said... Gunlocke jumped to mind based on some features but looking closer I didn't think so. Also I haven't run across to many Gunlocke that didn't have the metal medallion. Any idea how prevelent it is to see paper only? I take it the front legs were chopped in order to put casters on? That's a shame. You don't typically see that on a 'modern' chair do you? | |||||

| Will try tannic acid and copperas I think everyone is right that India ink is not right. RIT might work but maybe I will try that later, and it is a purple black anyway (I didn't realize till recently that if humans could see ultraviolet many things that we see as black would be seen as violet, which is I imagine why black and violet are so closely related) I don't have any aniline wood dye handy. But I think I might have been onto something with the quebracho (very high in tannin, used to prep wood for evonizing) and iron sulfate (aka copperas used for gree ... | |||||

| ... and rear legs. The little braces in the middle of the seat (there are two on the main seat and two on the lift-out piece) are rosewood as well (weird, since they're hidden by cushions). The rest is oak. Ours did not have the sinuous springs, but rather Pirelli webbing. It had a date stamp of Apr 18 1962 upside down, on the back of the front skirt. The rear legs are Danish-inspired, but the joinery is clearly not at the level of your typical Danish maker. I looked for a couple of days, but didn't turn anything up as far as maker. There are myriad terms ... | |||||

| Nice light! SDR, the ducks left. A hawk started coming around and every time, the ducks would get nervous and leave. They didn't have any ducklings yet but in some part of their little duck brains they knew the hawk was a threat to their species. BUT, a bunch of Eastern painted turtles came out of hibernation in the mud and they come up on the deck of the house to bask, so it wasn't a total waste of time and effort. And the ducks might come back next year, who knows. | |||||

| Thanks - I really do love... Thanks - I really do love it. I sent photos to Jason Lees, and he didn't recognize the table or the logo, but he was very complimentary. Now that it's been in my home for nearly a week, I love it even more. It's almost embarrassing that I only paid $30 for it. Mr. Lees said I got a steal! | |||||

| Foxxxy said "I have a small... Foxxxy said "I have a small cabinet built around 1850 with a paper label on the backside that looks like it was printed yesterday" That doesn't surprise me, the quality of paper was arguably better then. Wood pulp based paper wasn't common until later 1800s. Inks and glues used were differentx as well. But having looked under plenty of tables from mid 20th C that the label in top post didn't have the look I would expect. | |||||

| ... enough force to get the pieces apart.....WATCH OUT FOR NAILS.....Check to make sure someone in the past didn't nail them together. If so make sure you get them out....You'll break the parts other wise. Get either Gorila glue/Wood glue. Make sure your rough both the socket and the piece going in with sand paper...put glue on both and put together....Then clamp making it tight. Make sure to clean up any glue that come out with a moist rag and wait.....Then put the seats back on and your done! | |||||

| . Hi bj, please don't missunderstand me, I didn't want to talk down the France & Søn products, I just want to point to the fact that the products are nothing special among all other danish manufactures. You are right, generally machine work is not below handcrafted work, but in former times the machines didn't work as perfect as today, and this fact is obviously visible in many machine made products made in the '50s and '60s. And by the way, if a furniture is made by solid wood that does not basically mean that it's worth and quality is higher than veneered ... | |||||

| . Once again for all of you who are interested in danish furniture manufactoring in the mid-century: France & Søn was one of the first companies which started to produce in industrial manner, nearly no more handcrafted work, and this fact means that the quality of the products didn't become better but worster. If you compare the quality of the France & Søn products with the quality of small companies which were going on making handcrafted products, you will see the difference, it's obviously visible. That's just a fact and not my opinion. | |||||
