Kin1117 - I didn't realized it was off angle, it may have been just the picture. I'm pretty sure that its pretty even before I remove the panels, didn't realize that. Yes, I will be putting in natural oil inside the panels and leaning towards mixing 50 - 50 natural with medium walnut to have a little darker on the panels. | |||||

| I would agree... Although I didn't major in engineering or physics, so take this with a grain of salt... But I would think the tilt position would put more stress on the mount points, particularly the front two. The weight on the deep part of the seat would alleviate some of the pressure to the back two. But as you lean back, you would really be pulling against the front screws. Also, your point about Herman Miller apparently not offering it is a solid one. | |||||
| I like West System epoxies, too. | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | tktoo | General discussion | |
| ... to add whatever colorant desired, I suppose. West System has an excellent website for researching epoxy repair techniques, BTW. At Alfie Hume's recommendation, I've used PC-7 for about a dozen subsequent shock mount-to-wood repairs, including two on my ES670 about 5 years ago and, to date, all have performed as hoped (knocking more wood). I tried PC-11 once to experiment and it stands as my one and only shock mount repair to ever have failed. didn't last a year. Sorry I can't comment on the 3M product, but I am a big fan of their self-adhesive products and ... | |||||

| I have been using... I have been using marine-grade fiberglass stripper on my side chairs to remove upholstery foam. Worked like a charm. didn't touch the fiberglass at ll. I bet that stuff does the same with your paint, unless it's a 2K paintsystem (like carpaint). | |||||
| Their New Hampshire location | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | tktoo | General discussion | |
| Their New Hampshire location is under an hour from my house. I've never been, though. Somehow a visit just doesn't seem worth the drive. What ever happened to Jer-, anyway? Was he banished from the forum? He didn't strike me as the type to tire of having his ass kicked. | |||||

| I got the clips and they didn't fit in the groove of the piece I was redoing at the time. The clips were made differently than the originals and were thicker. Just a heads up. I got them online somewhere years ago, can't remember where. | |||||

| Well, HM hasn't answered yet... Well, HM hasn't answered yet - usually takes them a few hours, now it's been almost two days. didn't mean to embarress them 😀 I wonder if it's a big deal to take off the upholstery, and have it stitched (which could add a nice touch in my opinion), and put it back on. Anyone done that yet - or know anyone who will/can do it? | |||||
| Thanks! | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | chelle | General discussion | |
| Thanks! I actually have some Eucalan on hand, it's good stuff. I use it to wash my vintage flokati rug (which, incidentally, can be done in a washing machine.) I don't know why it didn't occur to me to give it a try... good idea. I do think the fabric is wool, or mostly wool, so it should be appropriate. | |||||
| To Spanky | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | onegroovydude | General discussion | |
| To Spanky Thanks for the reply. Idk. Maybe it's me, but it appears to be more than just a craft fair piece. Also, the scene doesn't look anything like southwest styling to me either. You said that stuff was big in the 80's, but this piece is dated 1980, so the 80's didn't even have a chance to begin yet. I can't say anything about the artist, because I still don't know who it is, but from the pieces I've seen on the internet, and through my travels, this does not look anything like hobby spare time craft art. Everything I've looked at in that area is cheaply ... | |||||

| Wassily Chair This business of the "official" version is a lot of nonsence.Standard Mobil became absorbed by Thonet and then Thonet passed through different ownerships that didn't bother about agreements with the designer because the Wassily chair was in the public domain. dino Gavino was one f the few persons who signed a licence agreement with Marcel Breuer to produce the Wassily, the cesca chair and a wooden chaise longue which was being manufactured in England. This agreement was a friendly contract that could not be imposed on third parties because the m ... | |||||

| jesgord The other batch of cane that I got from Country Seating was ok. I should have returned the bad hank but I had to get the chair done and didn't have time. I just found this discussion (link below) of bad cane and these people all say to just contact the supplier about it. It seems they will replace it. Also, I think this is where I heard about a company that has better quality cane---H.H. Perkins. Might be worth investigating, though this other person says that quality in general isn't what it used to be. I can confirm this just by looking at the ... | |||||

| ... cane may have been slightly softer and maybe it stayed damp longer, I'm not sure. But one thing I noticed is that it didn't get as gray when I left it in too long. I think I'll do a comparison test---like soaking cane in clear and soapy water for the exact amount of time and seeing how they look side by side. It did seem maybe slightly more slick in weaving, which is a good thing. I just used Ivory soap bars grated into hot water, probably about half a bar of soap. It was a lot but then I just used the same water for the whole chair, which I wove in a da ... | |||||
