| Just because something isn't... Just because something isn't a designer piece does not make it trash. I have a very nice modern American made credenza from the 60s. The tambour doors on it are lovely and extremely well made. I got the piece for a song because the person didn't think it was worth much since it was a real designer piece. I would have paid much more for it as it is a very nice quality piece. It's definitely NOT trash just because it wasn't designed by the likes of Wegner, Eames, Nelson, etc. They all made some duds also. Judge the piece ... | |||||

| Okay, you verified my hunch... Okay, you verified my hunch that it wasn't a Paul Evans piece. I only saw a couple places where it was attributed to him. Most places just listed it as a Lane bar. And it didn't really look like his other works anyway, IMHO. When I think Paul Evans, I think of the mainly furniture that uses quite alot of metal. Many of his pieces are brutalist designs also. I had never seen a Paul Evans piece that looks like the bar pictured, but you never know so I thought I would ask. Thanks for verifying my gut opinion. Now if I could ... | |||||

| Looks real to me. The date on the stamp must be 1980, not 1960 (ZIP codes didn't exist before 1963, the company wasn't called "Knoll International" until 1968, their Fifth Avenue showroom opened in 1970). | |||||

| Updated Hi again. I realised the original images (whilst valid) didn't embed, so I've added some ones that do. Please use URL versions for more detail. I'm keen to find out what "V" and "M" mean. Having read many posts on this forum, most refer to a Z, S, or Herman Miller sticker. I have seen the odd mention of a V from others seemingly sourcing from Holland too. Is that a clue? Thanks | |||||

| noguchi I had a very similar pin in a noguchi table that turned out to be a knock off. The seller found his original sales slip from Palazzetti nyc. All the dimensions were the same and great glass. The pin had me questioning it too. I found out Palazzetti wasn't a dealer but rather had been (still are) knocking off Herman Miller and many others designs. They have been sued multiple times. Sales slip was from 92. If he didn't come up with slip, I probably would have though the pin was replace because everything else look right. Don't know if this he ... | |||||

| ... I have to wear extra-small gloves at work and even they are a tad too big. I tried to learn the guitar but it didn't work out because my hands were too small to finger the chords on my dad's guitar, and I didn't want to spend money on a smaller guitar when I could use the money to buy furniture or clothes/purses/shoes. I can still play the clarinet from my high school band days though. In addition to small hands, I also have small feet, wrists, and ankles. I also like cats and have two named Benson and Maeby. | Not from sitting. But you can see the end grain which shrank, and the cross grain (lighter wood) on either side, which didn't. I imagine there have always been these cracks in the Eames stools -- unless maybe the wood was dried more thoroughly before manufacture, in "the old days" ! They say it's getting harder and harder to find skilled labor -- and knowledgeable supervision ? -- now. Thanks, guys. Actually, the warped corners didn't affect the performance -- or the appearance, to the naked eye -- of those garage doors. And, because there were two right ... | |||||

| A little gouache by Arthur Dove. Maybe 5 X 7 inches for $1500 from a gallery on W. 57th in 1978 or '79. Smitten at first sight, and probably could have swung the cash, but didn't do it. Why not, exactly, I don't remember. I may never again see a painting that I like so much at such an affordable price. I know I haven't since. | |||||

I have passed up pieces that were "too far gone" before, simply because I do restoration myself and didn't have the time to do it, or the money to have someone else professionally restore. I picked up a Hans Olsen rocker a few years back, in what looked like pretty gross condition in my opinion, someone had reupholstered the seat with some disgusting home interior era fabric. I kept tugging at it to feel if original fabric wa ...

| Love, love, LOVE th glassware. I like the cylindrical shape of the bowl and I really love the finely ribbed texture. But yeah---they do take up a lot of space. I think the broad, flat rims serve as handles, right? I never really thought about that until now. I had a few of these but eventually gave them to my daughter because I didn't really have room to store them after moving to a smaller place. I thought the plastic stuff was ABS, not melamine...? Or maybe I'm thinking of something else. | |||||

Since it's winter, I did all the cleaning in the shower and it was a PITA. the results were good though. I then took a shop vac to it to dry the fabric. I didn't notice any color loss but there was a lot of grime that came out of it.

| I think we can be pretty sure... I think we can be pretty sure this chair is actually Italma and designed by Gillon. Which is to say not Lafer. Treadway Toomey sold one with leather upholstery, and while they didn't show a photo of the label they clearly indicate that it is labeled Italma and Jean Gillon. Now I don't know much about Treadway Toomey and whether they are reliable at making difficult attribution where there is little or no reference material, but I think we can rely on their statement that a piece is labeled and signed. http://www.treadwayga ... | |||||

| Many thanks jesgord. And the last thing that I acquired (this morning) was a huge bill for a new engine for my late model Benz. Coming home from dinner/drinks last eve, got stuck in a flash flood...and the beasty 6.3 liter engine didn't like the water. A sad day for my insurance company. Drinks and/or advice anyone? Aunt Mark ps dinner/drinks for two $225. engine $26,600. ruined Gucci kicks $550. experience priceless. | |||||
