| Love those slatted chairs and footstools! The slatted chairs remind me of the Robsjohn Gibbons chair in the catalogue pictures in the "Lesser Known" thread. did a quick search and I didn't find a match but maybe you've more time to see where it leads? | |||||

| mockup Build a mockup using cheap plywood of a section wide enough to sit on. Try it out with different cushions and densities. And yes, I agree with the idea of straps underneath, not a solid platform. Our firm designed some sectional seating for a lounge area in a cigar bar, and I wish we had not used plywood underneath (even though it was perforated). We built a mockup and had differnt back cushiond made up with differing angles, and different seat cushion densities too. What we didn't have was the individual lounge seats we were planning to use next ... | |||||

| ... drooled there) How is the lamp looking? Get anything other than the bulb? It does have a small garage in the back, I have a few projects I am intentionally putting off just so I can do them in my very own shop. If you've ever sanded fiberglass in your kitchen you'll understand how exciting this is. Niceguy- I did look at a house currently rented by four filthy college boys. When I brought my dad over to look at it he said he'd pay 50 cents for it and burn it down, glad we didn't buy that one! | |||||

| Current production (1995+) is signed | 1 Relevance | 13 years ago | fastfwd | General discussion | |
| Current production (1995+) is signed on the leg, not underneath. I didn't think pre-1995 chairs were signed anywhere. Plus, that logo looks pretty sloppy; I guess it could be real -- I'm no Knoll logo expert -- but it looks different from the Knoll Studio logos I've seen on other pieces. Look, for instance, at the capital "S" on yours and compare it to the "S" in a known-good KnollStudio logo, or compare the relative weights of the "Knoll" and "Studio" fonts in your logo with those in a known-good logo. | |||||

| Thank you Thank you for the info from those who commented. didn't mean to stir up a sh*t storm but have to admit I'm finding it all very interesting. Apologies to DA for originally posting the link to something for sale. didn't know how to show the pics w/o posting the link. I decided to wait and see if he'll come down on the price. If I can get the same thing for the same price from a reputable dealer, I'd rather do that. OR let the seller realize he might not get that price and see what happens. Seems to me the point of getting it off of Craigslist is to g ... | |||||

| Mobilia #86 Well I just found and bought my first Mobilia issue. It's from 1962. I'm sure I didn't get the best deal in the world, but I'm glad to have kicked off a collection. It apparently has articles on J.L. Møller's "new" furniture factory, and Picasso carpets, among others. | |||||
| I think you're probably fine | 1 Relevance | 13 years ago | Spanky | General discussion | |
| I think you're probably fine with using the fabric either way since it's this less-contrasty color combo. I didn't like the black/yellow on the wrong side because the black wasn't a solid black; little flecks of yellow showed through the weave. But this is not nearly as big a deal when the two colors are so close in value. If they show it both ways, go for it! (I totally sympathize with being picky about fabric. I have looked for years sometimes to find just the right thing. It is a curse!) | |||||

It seems like many of the high interior window placements were made with that in mind too. Weird closet shot. Almost as bad as that guitar painting! | |||||
| A single-bedroom period | 1 Relevance | 13 years ago | SDR | General discussion | |
| A single-bedroom period house has been made into a two-bedroom with the addition of a carbuncle which has no relation to the original structure. The owner who made the change apparently didn't trust flat roofs . . . It would be interesting to re-imagine the structure with a sympathetic replacement of the addition; its relationship to the deck isn't bad. The house has't enough significance to justify a restoration which would return the house to its original size, though that's not out of the question as an alternative -- for the right owner ? | |||||

| Sorry I wasn't able to contribute to this thread until now, but I'd like to respond. Thanks for that chart, tktoo. I didn't know that some teak had a yellow hue. That makes me lean toward teak. Funny, though, that when I was researching this, I could only find this desk in the easily-identified reddish teak. No, I haven't done a thing to the finish, teakhound. It was in perfect shape when I bought it. This piece is designed so that there is no exposed end grain anywhere on it. That's unfortunate because I'm sure you wood experts could tell if you could see ... | |||||
| Was that a very early interview? | 1 Relevance | 13 years ago | fastfwd | General discussion | |
| Was that a very early interview? At this point in his career, nobody would forget that Gehry's an architect if he were to design a few more chairs. It might even be expected of him. I mean, when's the last time you heard of an architect who diDN'T also want to design all the furniture in his buildings? And in extreme cases, also the lighting, wall treatments, silverware, doorknobs.... It's not an uncommon impulse. Also, Gehry DOES still design furniture -- benches, mostly -- for his buildings. You can't buy those pieces from Knoll, but still. And besides ... | |||||

| ... the seller didn't mention which piece of furniture bears the foil label. The table? the chairs? And of course there isn't even a photo of the foil label. The internet is an echo chamber, so all these Glostrup/Jalk identifications could easily stem from a highly questionable identification like the liveauctioneers one. Especially since if you have a motivation ($$$) to see Glostrup/Jalk in the styling of the table it isn't hard to do so. If you want to identify beyond a reasonable doubt you need to find a marked exemplar and preferably the listing won't s ... | |||||
