| gold leaf | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | Eameshead | General discussion | |
| gold leaf even on the legit LTRs, I think I'm gonna be sick. (I know, I'm all stodgy and no fun. No rEdRuM, no gold leaf.) The beautiful orangey patina of the aged wood edges gets completely blown out of the water by the gold leaf, in my opinion. Not to mention that Charles or Ray didn't do it. (at least on LTR's) But maybe the gold leaf wins out anyway, for some tastes. But on those examples that woody posted, we are also now talking about altering an original design. (I know you are just having fun with this woody) I guess Mgee can now add me to the "stic ... | |||||
| It's torn | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | jhkim | General discussion | |
| It's torn A few areas are torn. I wanted to clean it off but I can't do anything with torn off raffia ( I didn't know that we call this Raffia. Thanks for the info ) I was thinking to glue leather or fabric to cover the sides. I might try with Raffia if I can find. Leather or fabric is easy because I can push the edge to the frame without cut or unglue the side frame. | |||||

| Sanding down the raised... Sanding down the raised veneer to level it out and expose the low spots I then taped the holes on the front And filled all the low spots and the drilled out holes with epoxy As if you didn't fill the big holes the vacuum bag would make dimples in the areas where they are | |||||
| Wrong on both counts, EH... | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | Lunchbox | General discussion | |
| Wrong on both counts, EH... Firstly, I've never come across a knockoff which wasn't obviously a knockoff. They never measure up, whether it's due to the company cutting corners, being inept or wanting to differentiate from the original for legal reasons. So what does that matter? There are plenty of people out there, some of which who have a lot more money than me, who are perfectly happy buying a knock off to save a few coin. The market is there regardless of quality. And secondly, what's unethical about my "decal" jibe? I mean, it could be seen as a jackas ... | |||||

| The bag is a yellowish clear.... The bag is a yellowish clear. So I can see what's going on. I was going to cut down the veneer so there is min. Overhang as it deff would crack it if I didn't. My plan was to do one side at a time since I dont was to cover up the edge Complete between 2 peices of veneer since that's what i am using for trimming size. I am also not using a any base structure in the bag besides the item and some plastic mesh to aid with it pulling all the air out and not just sealing at the valve and so the bag coInforms to both side and suppor ... | |||||

| . They probably just didn't want to be bothered with it. Am I missing something or isn't this just as simple as scraping the old glue off and using a bit of pva and hand spring clamps? Some blocks and proper clamps if you want. Thats all I'd do. | |||||
| it matters not | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | Eameshead | General discussion | |
| it matters not what Charles Eames reaction (to someone else's choice) would have been. We could speculate about that all day, but it does not enter into the equation. I'm just saying that he didn't do it. It's that simple. I like the look of all kinds of things, but that is a different issue. I don't have any trouble with "the look" of red wire. I'm sure Charles may have liked purple too, but he didn't do that to an LTR either. That's all I am saying. Mark might like red-meat high balls, but does that... Oh well, there went my point. Good bye point.. Im kidd ... | |||||

| ... And do we shoot the OP if it turns out he IS going to make a bunch of them? What if Lunchbox IS right? Then what? didn't we still all have a great time giving each other shit? And its not like his work is gonna fool anybody anyway. We see these on ebay all the time. They sit. There is edge bevel degree, top material, underside paint or laminate, label, exact kind of bends in the wire, the zinc coating, the list goes on and on, just like me. | |||||

| No no no, tktoo... According to magee that qualifies as industrious. In summary, dude makes a knockoff from materials he didn't pay for, brags about how little it cost him and insults the original design in doing so... Design Addict verdict? "GOOD LAD, WELL DONE!" Shambolic. | |||||

| Did you ever find anything about these chairs? I just found a pair of these chairs today and nobody know anything about them. They didn't believe they were plycraft either! Do you know who designed them in the end? I would appreciate any help! Thanks 🙂 | |||||

| jdip... I didn't know what it was when I picked it up. It was more about it's lovely worn in look, and the fact that it was abandoned by someone. As for value, I got a quote today, from the "hospital" and it'll take about $375-425 to replace it's missing parts. Add $100-200 to ship it there...and same to send it back. I have to think about this. Like, seriously. | |||||
| One piece of plywood | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | HawaiiModern | General discussion | |
| One piece of plywood And it does not even need to be round. I am suggesting this to keep everything in place. Maybe bring it in to the shop and let the welder fasten it to the base. My original thought was/is that if you did it, you would get the broken arm exactly where you want and protect the others from heat and damage from us surly welders. Yes, I am on Oahu, I am retired here though. Guess I was one who didn't smoke the weed and ran an efficient shop with "on-time delivery your #1 priority". Haha . I am going to go out on a limb and say thats good advi ... | |||||

| Thanks for your time... Thanks for your time objectworship. I didn't like being judged on my spare junkroom. People putting down others on the internet are usually very high class individuals. I know enough about my grandparents chair now so I won't be checking this forum anymore. Enjoy your high class environment. | |||||
