| Interesting thread! Made me realize that my father, a designer who noticed, and cared about, the details of a room, a piece of furniture, a city street, a plant or a flower, didn't care at all about cars. My mother didn't either, far as I can remember -- we lived in the suburbs and she was the one doing most of the driving. My parents usually had some Buick or something (yeah, I'm not a car person either) and drove it forever, at a time when a new car every few years was a big thing. But, I remember when my father brought this one home: pale blue Ford sta ... | |||||

Sometimes it works really quickly, other times it takes a long time. I guess it depends on the stain, the wood, and the durability of the finish. I have also just tried rubbing it in with my fingertip and wiping it off after a few minutes to check on the progress, then repeating as needed. I used to use Murphy's Oil Soap to remove old oil finishes like Leif describes above but found it dried the wood a lot and would someti ...

| When I was very little, we had a big ol' honkin' Plymouth sedan from the early 50s and I remember standing on the back seat when my mom was driving. A few years later we got a brand new VW bug, blue, into which our family of 7 allegedly fit. I mean, I know we did because I lived it. We even drove my grandparents ninety miles to the train station with all five of us kids in it and my parents. Horrors. I used to ride in that luggage compartment in the back, which I didn't like because it was really, really scratchy rug-like upholstery! Later, when everyon ... | |||||

The "special" car was a seldom driven Silver Shadow (replaced every so often). I do remember Mother picking me up from elementary school in a BMW Isetta (Red/White). My boyfriend (1st grade) at the time liked the way one entered the machine. We also had a 1966 Ford Bronco used only to plow our lane. After a couple of decades, the Bronco had less miles on it than a 2 year old car, but had enough rust to give you a skin ...

| I bought a couple of these at a flea market in Denmark when we lived there. They are just bed frames, I think, though I used one later as a daybed frame pushed up against a wall so the bolsters would stay on it. Mine didn't have the nicer raised edges but they were the same otherwise. I think I paid something like $7 apiece. | |||||

| Thanks spanky! That's a nice article. I figured they were knockoffs, but for $30 I won't feel bad leaving them out in the garage until we have enough people over that we need extra chairs. A guy I know has an authentic chair that he tried to sell me a few months back but I wasn't really into it so I didn't look too closely at it. Anyway, thanks again! | |||||

| Thanks for all the great info. Unfortunately it just didn't work out with buying either pieces. Probably not a bad thing since I don't have any room anyways but I really it had worked out. Anyways, thanks for the info once again. | |||||

Years ago when I was decorating my bachelorette pad, I grabbed a pair of lounge chairs from my parents basement that I thought had great lines, had them reupholstered and years later, find that they are from Florence Knoll's 1954 collection!! I plan on having them reupholstered in Knoll fabric in the future. Back to The Last Thing I Aquired, Saturday night I saw this posting on Craigslist and couldn't believe it!! Reached out to the seller. She was having a yard sale yesterday and I asked her to please let me know if she sold ...

The readership -- or at least the forum portions of the sites, fell off dramatically and have not recovered. The arguably improved -- or anyway, changed -- graphics and/or layout and/or functionality didn't seem to result in broader use, for some reason, and the "frequent fliers" seemed to drift away. I'd say that Design Addict is still going strong, and that the redesign really did improve the experience in tangible ways, at lea ...

| There are a couple things why someone could assume that this is a Pearsall sofa, shape of the back, cushions, platform style. I just sold a Pearsall sofa Model# 2408S and the cushions on your couch look exactly the same. The only difference is the back cushions, Craft Associates used 4 button on the front & back and not 2. I looked through the pictures that I have from the Pearsall catalog and I didn't see this particular sofa. Have you tried looking on the underside of this sofa for any identification marks? I know that a lot of these platform style s ... | |||||

I didn't really care or need to get an exact match, but I came very close anyway to the tobbaco finish. Good luck and be thrilled you only have to redo the top!

| According to a delightfully helpful email just received from Fritz Hansen, they date from January 1964 and February 1965. He didn't suggest that any part might not be original! (I can't imagine my father diluting a classic - it would go against all his purist principles!! Buying a limited edition - that, YES, absolutely, he would have done that in a heartbeat! But buying a classic and then desecrating it... I'd have said never.) At any rate, I've re-emailed the lovely chap from FH to ask whether he knows anything further. 🙂 | |||||

| Some of Børge Mogensen's designs were done very much with the everyday Dane in mind. Many of these were Fredericia or FDB. Usually oak and a really subtle utilitarian design. The point being they didn't get exported like others using Teak and Rosewood with more sculptural design. You see these designs a lot if you search in Danish, not English. And your second round of photos was perfect for identification purposes. Sharp, highlighting key pieces of information like the wood's end grain and side grain, the finger joints, the brass bolt heads, the hand stitch ... | |||||
