| I love the idea of painting it! didn't think of that!! Do you guys know of any businesses off the top of your head that do this? I was googling and found a little, but nothing that I've been sold by. Thanks so much for your suggestions! | |||||

| ... guy just didn't add batting to the back. I just looked at your pics again and I see that there are three tufting buttons on the back. Tufting buttons have cords that are pulled through the padding (and springs, if any) to the back, then often stapled or tacked to a crosswise rail on the frame at that point. I'm quite sure that's what you are seeing in the photo in your second post---those three messy-looking bumps right at the angle line. Batting would keep these from showing. The angle and height of the back are exactly right for the chair. There are ... | |||||

| thanks for the props tktoo i want to add some more photos but i will have to do them through my phone, haven't figured that one out yet. but i have a few.As for tips, a big one is the custom router base. all i did was remove the stock base and replace with a piece of plywood that i had sanded to ruffly the same ark as the panel, this greatly reduced the risk of routing through the whole mess. Also the core box router bit is a good call for around the edges. Just (as poach says) take your time. Little by little. This chair has five layers of ply and they are di ... | |||||
| Okay. To be completely honest | 1 Relevance | 11 years ago | tktoo | General discussion | |
| Okay. To be completely honest, I first did a basic goggle image search to quickly re-familiarize myself with Resnick's work and looked over the top fifty or so thumbnails for about two minutes. Then I went back and immediately discounted your first three images because they either appeared as works on paper (for which I have almost no personal reference) or because it seemed that the artist(s) was/were employing chiaroscuro techniques to model forms in 3-dimensional space. The fourth shows recognizable rendering of foliage. That left the last two images. #5 ... | |||||
| I remember fastfwd mentioning | 1 Relevance | 11 years ago | Mark | General discussion | |
| I (in my odd dream) remember fastfwd mentioning the he didn't mind the itching, but he couldn't stand the swelling. He's sharp, methinks. It was getting dark outside soon, the moon was half full and I forgot what I had for breakfast. I had the housekeeper put cough drops out on every side table, just in case of need. I had a notion to change my outfit, but needed SDR's fashion sense to guide me into the evening. tchp was nearby, so I politely asked for advice. We spoke of casserole recipes, and I recall learning a new naughty limerick about a gal named M ... | |||||
| SDR: not sure what you mean? | 1 Relevance | 11 years ago | leif ericson - Zephyr Renner | General discussion | |
| SDR: not sure what you mean? Often when I see a calcium deposit in teak, it is a long streak filling a tube. Sometimes the deposit will just a fleck or two here and there. Some pieces of teak have a lot of calcium, some have none. Of course the spots could just be paint as SDR is suggesting. But if you have sanded it is hard to see how you didn't sand off the paint. The photo is not remarkably sharp, so some of this is guesswork. | |||||

| Thank you for your response. Are you indicating that it might not be a Frankenstein and actually came with the two different woods? Well, that's kind of cool if so. And goodness, I didn't realize teak could be as pretty as this looks. I was actually looking for a Boucle in orange. I will check the names you mentioned. I have been looking around at straps the last few days, and it sounds like the original fagas straps are being discontinued. Any reason for that? I was leaning towards the clips with the black and red straps. Guess I better rethink it. Did I me ... | |||||

| I don't have any of his glass. But I don't think this is by him. 1. I don't see a KJ anywhere in your picture - just random scratches 2. He didn't sign his pieces KJ anyway as far as I can tell - he used his whole name 3. it doesn't look like his other signed work you can find online. | |||||
| VW Beetle here, too. | 1 Relevance | 11 years ago | fastfwd | General discussion | |
| VW Beetle here, too. Actually, it was a Super Beetle, with a slightly larger trunk than the normal Beetle -- a good thing, because our family of six would sometimes travel cross-country in that car with all our luggage. Also a Jeep that my Dad brought with him when we returned to the States after his military service in Africa. But it turned out to be impossible to register here, so he didn't drive it. My memories are mostly of playing in and around it while it slowly rusted in our driveway. | |||||

| Hi. I don't know where you are on this dilemma and I'm not much of a detail reader so pardon moi if I am reiterating someone else. From what I have learned, Thayer Coggin is not a very helpful resource for information. Perhaps they have someone sitting at a desk all day waiting for emails (because they don't list a phone number on their website) to confirm if this or that piece of someones collection is a Milo Baughman piece. That's what I would do if I were a thriving furniture manufacturer...or not? Who knows? Here's the point. Your chairs are friggen eh c ... | |||||

You could have returned it but were happy to keep it by accepting a partial refund. It seems to me that when you accept that deal that is where any responsibility ends. I really don't see why the manufacturer would have any responsibility to make it perfect. Now it is too bad that they don't have a leg they can sell you - but this is probably made in China and shipped by the container load in sealed boxes. So there are no spare legs to send you, ... | |||||
| Square drive screw heads and | 1 Relevance | 11 years ago | leif ericson - Zephyr Renner | General discussion | |
| Square drive screw heads and zig-zag springs and fabric loops! Oh my! It doesn't look much Scandinavian from the bottom. I've seen zig zag springs on Dux (Ljungs Møbelindustrier) pieces. But that is about it. I have a recliner, in terrible condition, awaiting restoration, with Afrormosia arms and legs and Zig Zag springs. But no square drive screws. And no idea who made it either. I am not even sure it is scandinavian. But if you can find a company that does upholstery this way, you have probably found its maker. Didn't the Canadians use square drive screws long before the rest of the world? | |||||

| Thanks gropius! I'm pretty certain they aren't original kitchen cabinets tough. I have seen a few pictures of the pre renovated kitchen and they were large cabinets with two sliding doors on them in most places. Though I can see where you're coming from as far as a custom cabinet maker. Either way, they're all pretty beat and need refinishing. I didn't know if they were obviously something nice like Paul McCobb or Knoll or something that I was missing. | |||||

| Leif, I missed your comment while I was getting my last one going. I thought that the handles didn't look like something that would be on a knoll piece, but I'm not all that knowledgeable to begin with. There is a slight possibility the original owner made the chests, but I don't think so. I've looked for a makers mark but haven't found one yet in any drawers. I am yet to pull them out and look underneath or on the back. One of the kids that grew up in the house paid me a visit a few weeks ago and said her dad loved mid century modern and that he left ... | |||||
