| Big difference between the best art... ...and selling a painting !YOU implied that "the marketplace and buyers" were the final say about what was deemed ART, as every idiot knows what they are looking at. Lets just go ahead and put Keane in the Louvre, okay? I simply disagreed with your rather stupid point about buyers defining the contemporary art environment with regards to quality in art. You are dead wrong about that. I never made a point about "starving artists" other than to say that good art was not always supported financially-- I simply and some e ... | |||||

| Lunchbox, I didn't say that... I never said that environmental effects don't change the color. They certainly do, and I love em all! The patina of time and all that... What I said was that the environmental color changes are not responsible for ALL of the color differences. I gave examples of what I meant. I said that there is a clear and obvious (to me) difference between age-related color shift and intentional color shift. I base this on long hours of contemplation of many mnay examples side by side. And no, I am not currently a stoner! LOL Besides, Mark ... | |||||

| Garlanre, I certainly didn't mean to suggest that you had devalued the chest. I meant only that a refinished example would bring less than a piece with its original finish in good condition might. My apologies for any misunderstanding. From your photos, it seems that you've done oustanding work on a worthwhile rescue. Perhaps if you state up front that the piece is refinished and sans labels, you'll save yourself some grief? | |||||

| I wonder why you didn't use... I wonder why you didn't use a piece of cardboard the same size as the original? Perhaps that is all it will take to keep the rush from bunching. I'd try a full piece of cardboard and cover with "spray mount" or other paper safe slow drying spray adhesive. If you try this approach use an adhesive that is repositionable but becomes permanent when dry. | |||||

| I certainly didn't mean to infer that HM ever tried to put one over on their customers. "Rosewood" like "palisander" commonly describes a range of tropical species that look somewhat similar but may in fact not be related. This was accepted practice in the industry before trade restrictions of threatened species required certificates and other documentation, but there is still plenty of confusion and co-mingling of different imported woods. For instance, the "teak" found in cheap furniture from Indonesia commonly seen at importers like Pier 1 bears little re ... | |||||

| I didn't read your post... I didn't read your post until now. I'm good for a spool if we can get a couple other people as well. If you'd like to contact me outside of the forum, my gmail username is the same as my forum username. You really ought to confirm the weight of the spools / coils / rolls in question, as I typically see it sold in 2lb coils or 20lb spools. 2lbs is enough to do 2 chairs, maybe. 2 x 2lb coils will definitely do 3 chairs. 20lbs should do more like 15-20 chairs. *spanky* / tchp - can you confirm my estimations? | |||||

| Gentlefolk, I certainly didn't intend to insinuate anything about fellow primates on the forum and I apologize to any offended. I simply imagined for a moment that reassembly of waffle's treasure would offer a bit of a puzzle as I enjoy those. Perhaps a buyer with similar tastes might pay a premium? | |||||

| jesgord, I didn't see your updates until now. Nice work! I found the cane to be really trying at first but after two seats I got the hang of it and it wasn't so bad. The thing that bugged me most, I think, is the variation from strand to strand and even within a strand. Some parts are thicker and harder and tend to split when nailed, and they don't wrap as neatly around wood rails. Then other parts are a lot more flexible but they shred along the long edges. And the hairs! I also had a lot harder time when I would do short sessions. Part of that was th ... | |||||

| disassembly Thanks for the video link - it didn't even come up to do that, since the current chairs come fully assembled in one box. UPS it is... I'm fairly close to Chicago (2 hrs). Where would you send me? The only sources I had so far are craigslist and ebay (sometimes ridiculously high prices). Regarding the chair of interest: would you consider 2500$ a fair offer (for both parties)? | |||||
