I know a lot more now but what strikes me about the Chairs book is how many oddball things there are in it. I hope I can use it to help out here with IDs.

If it they are the same chair as the ones I restored, I think it's entirely possible that the manufacturer offered them with upholstery as well as the more common paper cord---but it's also possible that someone had them redone years ago, maybe when the owners changed their minds about the seats (like, decided they were uncomfortable, or the cord didn't go with their other things, or one of the kids spilled spahgetti sauce all over one---could be any number of things!) Also, these chairs do pop up e ...

| ... indeed appeal to my sensibilities. Very nice job. My over-arching idea with this thread is how we, the ones restoring and resecting the design, sometimes take a few artistic liberties which I think the origin designers would appreciate. I recently acquired these bentwood chairs that really smacked of something I couldn't put my finger on. I wanted to like them; wanted them to grow on me. Unfortunately, they didn't and after determining that my premonitions as to them being something more than they were, I saved what I liked. My plan is to repurpose the vert ... | |||||

| Modernefamilie, nice score on the candle holders. I have been hoping to come across those at a thrift store one of these days, and actually the exact ones you found are what I am looking for. I went to one of my usual Friday lunch-run thrift store stops. didn't find the holders, but found 4 boxes of tiny tapers (so when I do finally find a holder, I am ready), dollar each; a Wolfard 12" oil lamp, 1.69, but most surprisingly a Dansk Designs Denmark "Jane" salt/pepper grinder combo, for a $1.69. While I am always hoping to score some candle holders, I will t ... | |||||

| forgot to say -desk is open in the back with bookshelf and has piece of wood that slides out towards the back-- seems pretty similar to other designs on-line except for the style of legs. The legs seem very well made and of similar wood-- how do you know this is not a real design that perhaps didn't cut it because the legs seem kind of flimsy to hold up the weight of the desk? Is there any catalogue of his designs any place? What other legs would it have had? There are no marks on the outside of the desk to indicate outer supports--just curious! | |||||

| tktoo I have nothing to restore at this time, but I do greatly appreciate the "common sense tip" of a musical instrument repair specialist for difficult metal restoration. This falls under the category of "why didn't I think of that". I will remember this for possible (hopefully not) future usage. Thank you. | |||||

| Hey, thank you both so much! I do apologize! I looked around and read through some of the posts, and did not (until just this moment) see that there was a request for no antique identification and to keep it to the styles you mentioned. I am sorry! I didn't mean to be "that person" who wouldn't play by the rules. I honestly just didn't see it! So, thank you for taking your time to help me on something that I now understand is not your passion or forte. I appreciate your guidance and respect your advice very much! Thank you, again! 🙂 | |||||

However, the leg tops had a recessed thread detail that didn't work with the cabinet base. And after I received the legs, I realized that the hanger bolts were a size too small for the existing threaded inserts under the cabinet. So I ordered the right bolts online. Since the exposed threads on the existing leg bolts were not long enough for the double nut unscrewing technique, and the recessed leg didn't w ...
| Aunt Mark, you're so right, | 1 Relevance | 10 years ago | Spanky | General discussion | |
| Aunt Mark, you're so right, as usual! Meanwhile, this teak troll from Sweden is one of my recent acquisitions. It's 12" tall if you count the height added by the luxurious mane of Icelandic sheep wool (which was gray with decades of dust when I got it but a round of lather-rinse-repeat took care of that nicely ). The pencil is for scale since I didn't have a lamb chop handy. The goofy teeth are what sucked me in. | |||||

| Ahh. So sorry. I've only seen this item online. It was sold when I inquired with the merchant who didn't seem to know any more about mid-century than I do. Here is the original description: "Vladmir Kagan-style Mid-Century Modern credenza with unusual curved top. Features nine drawers, six smaller are concealed behind doors with wing-style pulls. Very heavy, solid piece of furniture. Additional dimensions | Large center drawers, 15"D x 34"W." I am adding two more pictures from other angles. I'm afraid that's all I have. Just thought I'd try with you gu ... | |||||

Also a neighbor friend came over this evening who is also a Mid Century Modern enthusiast and has been buying and selling furniture as a hobby for a long time. She said she thought the chairs were patio chairs because they were not the stainless steel but steel wire with a metallic finish. I didn't realize there was a "patio line". Does someone know a little background on the material used on the frames?

| I sincerely appreciate everyone's help! Mimosa, I will take a better photo and see about the wood grain direction, I just quickly snapped the OP photos last night in my living room out when my frustration level finally got me to post it here. (Not that I then didn't spend two more hours looking after that... sigh) Leif you are right, I'll try to edit the Marshmellow sofa comment to reflect Irving. I get annoyed when people attribute the clocks to Nelson, so I should do the same for the sofa. The estate this came from also had a interesting paper sculpture ... | |||||

| Many Yugo pieces have a small light "YUGOSLAVIA" imprint on the back of a seat rail, not an ink or burn brand. They can often be overlooked. Take a flashlight and do a close-up inspection of the framing to see if you can see one. Also, I don't believe I've seen those two eyelet brackets on the sides of seat framing before. Or if I did, it obviously didn't stay in the noggin very long. | |||||
