| ... are modern design so fit with my decor better than other furnishings I had so they were last on the list to replace. My bedroom is not huge or anything. Currently, I have a full-sized platform bed with one nightstand. Two nightstands won't fit neither will a queen-sized bed. I have a smallish desk and my 25 gallon reef tank. My first order of business is replacing the tank. Sorry guys, but my reefing hobby takes precedence over my mid-century modern hobby 😉 I am actually replacing the tank with a 36gallon Elos Midi rimless aquarium. Very nice and v ... | |||||
| Modular teak wall unit made in Norway - help with ID please? | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | demp945 | Identification | |
| ... other systems that I am familiar with are Cadovius and PS Randers and this isn't either. All the pieces are stamped "made in Norway". The shelves are all made from teak veneered solid wood (pine?). Unfortunately the system is a little worn (especially the desk unit) and there are some stains. But I didn't pay too much ($100) and I think that after I clean it up it will fit nicely in a bedroom, stains and all. | |||||
| Is this Nelson clock very common? | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | pee_king | General discussion | |
| Hi I just bought a George Nelson 60 slat clock model 2291.I was wondering if it is really common. The clock it self is minty except the minute hand needs to be repaired it just spins loosely. Is there a place one can recommend I can have it sent to be repaired ,or at least somewhere I could find a replacement hand. I will appreciate any help you can offer. I didn't bother taking a photo but I will include a link to wright to show you the clock I am talking about. http://www.wright-inc.com/auctions/view/B8RX/F570/7/223 | |||||
| Most regreted loss | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | Riki | General discussion | |
| I think the thread prior to this one is going to get lost in the shuffle. What is the one item that you had a change to buy but didn't? I'll repeat mine. It was a loooooong 6ft wicker basket with a wooden bottom that was used to store BODIES in with ice in the bottom prior to burial around the turn of the century. I keep picturing that basket on a long dining table at holiday time with pumpkins/holly whatever. Have only seen it once in all my days of dealing in antiques. Biggest regret? | |||||

| Restoring Fibreglass | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | claus (DE) | General discussion | |
| I have this '62 Eames shell, that served as garden-furniture for over 30 years. It was pretty run-down, but after sanding it looked promising. The thing is that I can't get the "embed dirt" out (looks like fibres turned black). different cleaners didn't work (cillit-bang, plastic-cleaners, typical household products). Has anyone experiences with that? http://www.flickr.com/photos/17228734@N00/2471951368/ | |||||
| Alto stools? | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | diors | General discussion | |
| I'm pretty new to this forum, and I hope it's alright to start another thread on the Aalto stool 60. I learned a lot from the others, but I think I have a slightly different animal here. This stool has four screws like Lucifer Sum's stool in photos posted in Dec '08 but unlike Lucifer's it has Made in Sweden mark. I hope you can see from the photos that it has a warm tone; someone might have stained it, but it didn't bleed into the felt stoppers, so maybe not. I have another stool, which has the same profile and Sweden mark but it a completely differen ... | |||||
| Swedish Design Addicts - help with Bo Fajans? | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | scoutshouse | General discussion | |
| I posted this vase months ago, but didn't get very far with it. I finally found out that it is Bo Fajans, the glaze is GK-45 "Atomic" or "Topas" I contacted two Swedish pottery sites, one said it is Ewald Dahlskog, 1938-40. I haven't dug up enough reference material to find out how Bo Fajans were signed, but I didn't see many that were hand-signed. Do all Dahlskogs pieces bear his specific mark? Thanks, y'alls... | |||||
| Gerald Thurston lamp shade ... | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | dhopper | General discussion | |
| Hi all. I just picked up a great Thurston tripod lamp - sans shade. I've been scouring the boards and net looking for a replacement (which I really didn't expect to find very easily) to no avail. Am I destined to just have a custom replacement made? Does anybody have any recommendations on a reasonably priced maker? I've gotten one quote back so far from random places I found online ($259!). Crazy I thought for a simple thin tapered drum shade. Maybe I should just make one? Here's a pick of the new lamp. and a link to one I found with a shade. Any ... | |||||
| Finish for wenge table top? | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| ... best, others say lacquer, and still others say shellac and then oil (?!). One guy says that all these options will fail and that the oil in the wood must be stripped out with a fast-drying solvent, then quickly do a coat of shellac, then another coat of shellac, then a couple of coats of a certain type of varnish. He says this is the only thing that will adhere well to the naturally-oily wood. The guys at the wood shop recommended polyurethane. And then there's the question of whether to fill the grain, and if so, with clear or tinted filler...? Gah! ... | |||||

| Can someone id these danish sofas? | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | NULL NULL | Identification | |
| Hi all, After asking if I should buy the hidious mohair sofa (thanks to you guys I didn't), I ended up buying these 2 in the pictures. I have seen the longer sofa a couple of times online before but did not look at who made them. I just remember that they're made in Denmark around 1960. One was being sold for $4,500. I got both of mine for $950 plus the chair in the picture. Please tell me I got a good deal. They're in great condition and I love them. Can anyone id my sofas? Thanks! | |||||

| On *really* old Knoll Saarinen stools | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | gene | General discussion | |
| ... the forum. I have a matched pair of tulip stools. One had the old 50s Knoll sticker on the underside of the cushion and one had the HG Knoll Products upholstery tag (which I was surprised at because I thought that tag was no longer in use by the time the tulip series went into production, but apparently it was). These stools were obviously "kosher" but I was wondering why they didn't have the BR-51 and three protruding cylindrical shapes on the underside of the base (instead, mine have a some numbers and "ALCOA" and a bunch of very slightly raised circle ... | |||||
