| Help w/ Wall Unit Cabinet Hardware | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | guyinSF | General discussion | |
| I just bought this small wall unit that has one cabinet but it turned out that the seller didn't have the hardware that would allow me to hang the cabinet on to the wooden rail. Here is a photo of the back of the cabinet that has a metal bracket with a hook and the second photo shows the wooden rail on the cabinet. From what I have seen before with other wall units the metal bracket with the upside down hook should be parallel to the side of the rail and there should be a metal peg that goes into one of the holes on the side of the rail and it sticks out and ... | |||||

| I am a relatively recent convert to modernism and when I discovered this forum, I was so excited. I have learned more pouring through the information on this site in the last week and a half than I have in the last year on my own. It really got me to thinking - what other resources are out there that I am missing out on? If you have a great website, book, television show, etc. that you think us newbies should check out, or even something you know the old hands will enjoy, please feel free to post it here! (I searched and didn't find any posts like this, but ... | |||||
| My adventure towards a Charles Eames Lounge chair (Steelform.com) | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | Sami | General discussion | |
| ... lot of people are offering this chair. I didn't know where to start and what to look for. After some investigation I notices a couple big groups of retailers PS: The chair was patented in the 50's, but a patent only lasts 20 years, so by now, everyone can make them The original ones like Vitra in Europe and Herman Miller in the United States. They have always been official retailers and will probably give the best quality (together with certificate and production number) Unfortunately they are also the most expensive and we're looking at a price around $600 ... | |||||
| Looking for brass arms for my Royal Cado | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | flyingpatricio | General discussion | |
| Some time back I got some shelving from a client. I didn't know what it was at the time, so I ended up giving part of it to a friend of mine for a house warming gift. Well, time passed...one day I asked him if he ever used it and he said, "no". So I asked if I could trade him something he could use more for it. So he did. He brought it over and to my dismay he lost one of the arms. Nothing renders a shelf more useless than a missing support. I'm in need of one brass arm. I've thought about having a new set made at a local metal shop, but I'm not sure what it ... | |||||
| Just picked up 3 of these Hovmand Olsen chairs... | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | Don | General discussion | |
| But I would like to know if they really are by Hovmand Olsen, because they differ a lot from the ones on furnitureindex.dk I didn't buy these but they are exactly the same. I think they would be Dutch, maybe by Pastoe or WeBe, or maybe Hovmand Olsen, they are unmarked and were originally upholstered with black skai on the seat. Hope someone has a clue | |||||

| Danish? Desk ID | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | Jenry and the J... | General discussion | |
| Picked this desk up extremely cheaply. Has a number of repairable flaws, but I didn't want to dig in to it until I knew what it was. I can't find anything exactly like it anywhere. Don't want to find out I mussed up a some valuable 1940's Ole Wanscher. There's no markings anywhere. Plank wood cabinetry, veneered with what I think is teak. Square lines and lip around desk top make me think Danish, but the modesty panel seems so American to me. I'm in the United States, the seller said the desk came from her father's law practice in Chicago. Found a little gir ... | |||||
| Two Bertoia side chairs... real or knock-off? | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | margaux-85 | General discussion | |
| Hi. I recently bought two chairs that I assumed were Bertoia knock-offs. They were from Craig's list and very inexpensive (the seller didn't claim anything one way or another; she got them in 2003 from her office that was closing), but it seems that several things about the chairs suggest they are potentially real. However, there are no markings on the chairs and only one came with a pad which looks authentic, but no markings on that either. 13 squares across the back. The metal tapers over the top, etc. Thanks for any thoughts! | |||||

| Bought B&B Alanda table and seller claims its authentic | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | casablanca | General discussion | |
| ... that he had bought it at a renowned furniture store in Cologne, Möbel Pesch. He apparently wasn't aware of the rareness of the table and didn't even know the brand, leave alone the product name. I paid 145 ? and picked it up last weekend. Now a friend of mine also owns an authentic Alanda (which his parents bought in the 80's) and he noticed that there are a few differences between our tables. Mainly the dimensions (my Alanda measures 100x100x30 cm whereas his isn't as high but much wider) and the glass top which sits on small feet between the frame on his ... | |||||
| Just found the thread on reweaving Danish cord -- should I be kicking myself? | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | chelle | General discussion | |
| I'm new at this so please have pity if any of this is unusually stupid.... A few weeks ago I answered a Craigslist ad and went to see a sofa, which I did not end up liking. But the seller also had some dining chairs, which I loved. He said were Moller chairs from around 1970, and he wanted $500 for four. The cord seats were shot, and he told me it would cost "only" around $200 a chair to re-weave them, which pushed them to $325 each, out of my budget. The chairs remained in my mind so I started to poke around a little and discovered to my dismay via this for ... | |||||
| unknown Tomado design | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | bj | General discussion | |
| I own several racks by Tomado, wich used to be produced with metal from my hometown factory, Bekaert, known for its metal wire. The other day I scored this one, wich I didn't know of. It's obviously by Tomado, looking at the material, details and finish. The top is made of a piece of formica and slots into the uprights. Anyone familiar with this one? | |||||

| 2 ply Danish cord | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | cristataman | General discussion | |
| I found all the posts interesting and helpful in considering the recording of our Danish diningroom chairs bought around 1960. However the cord on these chairs is 2 ply, and every source I have looked at only has 3 ply, even the much more expensive cord said to be made in Denmark exactly like all cord used on Danish chairs made since 1950. Said to be much stronger and more durable than the cheap imitations - should I believe that? Also the rush style of weaving found on my seats as well as the Hans Wegner rocker (that I also have) was said by spanky to be ... | |||||
| Wassily knock off with decent leather or authentic? | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | DunesMother3 | General discussion | |
| Thanks in advance for any assistance. I love the chair regardless, so authenticating is only gong to make me love it more. Just curious more than anything if I have a "find" or not. I didn't get it from the trash, or an auction. I paid a fair price for a knock off with real leather, and am happy with that. But the seller and I both were unsure, so I am coming to you. It does have a label under the bar that is under the very back of the seat that said Made In Italy at one time, you can see it is partial. Thoughts? The seller has had it in his possession ... | |||||
