| Ib Kofod-Larsen question about rosewood cabinet/sideboard | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | Cloudburst2000 | General discussion | |
| ... but I had my hunches that it was by a well-known designer. I was sure I had seen the piece before. I sadly didn't have the money to buy the piece then or I probably would have purchased it.Anyhoo, I decided to do some investigating and have since identified the piece as being by Ib Kofod-Larsen. Every time I have seen the piece on the internet it was attributed to him. Yay! So one mystery solved. However, this led to a new mystery. The piece I saw while being exactly the same in every detail had different legs. ... | |||||
| Have you found anything good in a Salvation Army/Goodwill shop LATELY? | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | keewee | General discussion | |
| ... where their vintage is going. Salvation Army used to make deals with dealers to come in and look at their things before they went out on the floor. I recently went across country and stopped at Goodwills in many places and it was the same story. Not even a decent lamp. No sensibility to their pricing. Every bit of junk is 5.99 even if it didn't cost that much new. I don't believe they aren't getting any vintage donations. I think they're selling them out the door before any of us see them. A few smalls might slip through now and then, ... | |||||

| For my countrymen, just found a couple of interesting things, perhaps you guys knew but I didn't. If you ever find a knoll piece that seems a little unusual, it seems that Saarinen chairs, Barcelonas and a few other things were made under licence, the tarrifs no doubt. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1300&dat=19600926&id=IIVVAAAAIBAJ&sjid=GbADAAAAIBAJ&pg=2237,4695388This looks like a contract but I can't access it http://ghutdc.com/file-doctc/1LSD/mies-van-der-rohe-barcelona-chair-1929-designed-1960s.html | |||||

| Chair ID (Finnish? Tapiovaara?) | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | A Modern View | Identification | |
| Hi, As a modern furniture restorator I got a question concerning following chairs. The original owner (who bought the chairs in the sixties/seventies in Finland) always thought these were a design of Ilmari Tapiovaara. But research didn't return anything. They do vaguely resemble Tapiovaara's Domus chair, but they share also some style elements of the SE18 of Egon Eiermann. Any ideas? Kind regards, Jan | |||||

| Year of found chair? | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | dpaslay | Identification | |
| Hi I recently found this gem of a chair on the street I plan on restoring. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about "Monarch Furniture"? I was trying to do some research on the chair but couldn't find much and was wondering what year it was made and what type of wood it has? I did find some similar looking chairs labeled as "dutch" but they didn't match exactly, only the arms matched. Which probably says a lot actually...Any clues? | |||||
| Johannes Andersen? chair ID | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | M_Dennis87 | Identification | |
| I'm just wondering if anybody can confirm or refute that these are Johannes Andersen "Juliane" chairs. I purchased them from an enderly couple along with a Faarup IB Kofod Larsen dining table. I know there are dixie versions of the chairs but these seem very well made, no screw plugs, a little banged up but they'll clean up nicely.Sorry for the terrible image, but I didn't have time to take any others. If there are specific details that I should look for, please let me know. Thanks in advance. | |||||

| Help id this bentwood tray- like Eames splint..? | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | nycdavd | Identification | |
| Hi, I am looking for any information or opinions on this bent wood tray. It's large, 22-1/2" long by 11-1/4" wide by 3" high. Very thin, 3ply that is less than 1/8". Maybe walnut? maybe Swedish? I couldn't pass it up, It reminds me of the back of an Eames DCM or splint. There is a very intricate thin wire system with a loop- for hanging? Any info or guesses would be most appreciated. Thanks, David sorry for the large photos- i resized on photo bucket? apparently didn't work... | |||||
| Glue Question: Can This Gehry Icing Table Be Saved? | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | kate kaplan | General discussion | |
| I can't remember how many years I had this before the staves (if that's the right word) started coming unglued. I tried wood glue and clamps (or rather the handyman did) but the fix didn't last, and local modern furniture restorers said that they couldn't help. Finally, in 2008, I wrote to Knoll, and they fixed it for me! But now a couple of staves are loose again - so my question is, anyone know of advances in wood glue technology? it it worth trying again? I guess I could ask Knoll what they used, but I'm not sure they'd tell me, or that it'd be something ... | |||||
| Florence Knoll Table Veneer Thickness | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | kjhawkm | General discussion | |
| I've got a vintage (don't know how old) Florence Knoll oval table that we bought a couple of years ago for our dining table. This weekend I tackled refinishing it. Unfortunately it didn't go too well. Long story short I think that in certain areas in an effort to eliminate some scratches I went through the previous owners staining/finishing, but not so far as to reach the substrate (I think/hope). We noticed that the areas with heavy sanding were lighter than the other areas which makes sense because in my opinion all the stain had been removed but we we ... | |||||
