| Nice cart and great job on the restoration! When uploading photos, you have to click on "UPLOAD" for each addition. You can choose one photo at a time or you can choose several at once (like, select up to 6 from your file), but you can't select one, then select another in a separate action because only the last one selected will get uploaded. That might not have been what was happening with your photos, but I think it isn't terribly clear that that's how it should be done. I know I didn't figure it out on the first try. | |||||

| It may have also been because Burke was producing a set in white that looked even more like the Saarinen originals that they were all copying? Burke bases didn't have that visible joint where the stems meet the bottoms. I don't know, just guessing. | |||||

| Nice haul, MarkScandi! No, Star-Brite teak oil does not have varnish (and i'm sure it's not the only brand with no varnish). The furniture you got most likely just has an oil finish with no varnish. I had a table with a plain oil finish and didn't like having to be vigilant during meals about little drops of moisture and food (yes, there were placemats on the table!) so I finally got rid of it. If i had it to do over again, I'd probably look into a more impervious finish that had the same look of oil, which I guess would be something with varnish but low ... | |||||

| ... I didn't find the chairs to be super comfortable, they sat at an awkward spot on my back and I couldn't see myself spending much time in them. They are the Ferrari lamps. They have been in storage for some time but I always wanted to use them. While they are not lighting anything up at the moment, I think they are doing a good job looking good while holding up some books. We also have two of the black & white Toucan lamps by H.T. Huang for our bedside tables, I guess I got into bird lights for a hot second : ) I like to believe we will all find the ever cha ... | |||||

| Hi Zephyr, I'm pretty sure that both the addresses are where the pieces were shipped to. These labels are from two different pieces. I'm pretty sure that top line is the furnituremaker's info. The logo, description and model number. Why didn't they just write out the name of the shop, dammit?! | |||||

Interestingly the top corners of the backrest also abstractly reminded me of the armrests on the Colonial chair. So I searched and searched, and couldn't find anything that night. I messaged her and she confirmed they were stamped with CH&S and Odense. This is the curious part to me, there's an obvious thought of who that stamp will be, but I didn't know Carl Hansen & Son ever had a stamp that was CH&S. They have a CHS logo or the full name, right? Would it be a crime to strip the chair and just oil it? Or soap it? Or [broken record warning!] India ink? My ottoman wasn't stained, it just had a tinted clear finish on it that came off completely. I can't stand wood that is made to look like some other species.

It is still a nice find, it has decent lines for a common american produced piece, and if you did not pay anything, even better! The cushions and webbing will probably cost about 250-300. If you are planning on keeping it, go ahead and get it done, but if you are planning on re-selling, I would sell just the frame. I will see if I can find the actual attribution and ...

| I think Zephyr nailed it. The signature on your tiles didn't look much like "P. Hermann" until I compared it to a more legible example on some other tile. I think that particular glaze just didn't lend itself to fine detail. | |||||

| I'm nowhere near 200 Moller chairs, I'm hanging around 40. However I've only ever seen corner blocks on one set that were falling apart. The corner blocks had been added to try and return some stability to the chairs, which didn't really work. | |||||

| Hmmm... more questions. I'm at a loss. The seller was in her 70s and said her husband got them before they married somewhere in London as far as she knew. I mean, I just don't know why someone would go through the trouble to fake these? The measurements are all exact to legit 78s. Here is a picture of the wood once it all the stripper dried. I didn't sand nor scrub very hard with the steel wool. I returned home from work later than expected and just ran out of time and light. Also included is a pic of the front side of the bottom of the apron | |||||

| I posted a link above to a source for the springs. They come with clips to screw to the frame but you could snip them off if you don't want to use them (or maybe they come unattached, I didn't read the description). I think Leif said the springs on this chair were originally attached with big staples. If you attach them that way, just make sure you do it in a way that won't lead to the wood splitting. I'd be inclined to use the clips and pre-drill holes for the screws, but I'm also not a strict purist about the little details. If you don't think you c ... | |||||

When I made it known I'd like an Eames shell chair for my bedroom desk, I apparently didn't emphasize that only a "real" one would do; little did I realize, in 1956, that there were already knock-offs on the market. Christmas morning revealed a sad gray round-shouldered fiberglass chair, with simple bent-tube metal legs. My shoulders must have slumped . . . not too noticeably, I hope.
