| continued These things I think about when I post. Creativity and the civilization that it accretes is a collaboration, not just a process dictated by creative persons, or well capitalized producers, making things for the helpless goyim. If that were all there were going on, then civilization would have already lost the battle and become an act of animal husbandry, rather than civilization. Creativity requires a creator and an appreciator, lest it reduce to atavism and narcissism in the creator and indolent subjugation in the appreciator. These things I try t ... | |||||

| ... toys being things that could be built: My father (a carpenter) made a big set of wooden blocks for us to play with when we were fairly young. Memory tells me that they were not colored, which I think speaks to the above about saturating kids with brightly colored objects. And, there was no particular 'value' assigned to any particular block because of color. The wooden blocks led to Lincoln Logs, Erector Sets, Constructs and Legos. These toys were kept in large bins - something I think was important in terms of us kids building what we wanted, rather th ... | |||||

| Manufactured landscapes... by Edward Burtynsky's should be a must for every student in design or designer but that being said I agree with Nate in pointing the finger at ourselfes. The working conditions of Chinese workers are at least to a large extend dictated by Nord American and European companies who aswer the call for "rolling back" the prices. As long as consumers are not prepared to pay a price that is close to what they would have to pay their neighbour for doing the same thing, we will collectively force other people into this kind of working condi ... | |||||

| The research was compiled by a distant cousin (with help from relatives still in IRL) for her book " The Macauley, McAuley, McGauley Family of County Louth, Ireland" published for a family reunion held here in Massachusetts in 1996 where there were more than 200 of us attending from as far away as Ireland, England, and Alaska! Included in the book are numerous entries of family lore dictated by some of the eldest surviving descendants at the time. It seems that not mincing words runs in the family, as memories of certain individuals (especially men married i ... | |||||

| I'm happy to hear that you want to make a cabinet for yourself, and will advise as I can. But I would never advise a beginning woodworker to veneer his own panels; it's enough of a challenge to build a sturdy and neat cabinet from already-veneered material ! The dishes you can prepare in the kitchen are dictated largely by what appliances and implements are to be found there. Veneering with raw veneer implies a press or at the least a number of clamps; no permanent veneering can be accomplished with contact cement ! One of the challenges is that to avoid ... | |||||

| Well, that depends on what kind of furniture we're talking about. Which country you're in. And what's "in" at the moment. Here's the current danish list in my (subjective) opinion. rosewood teak afromosia oak walnut mahogany danish beech As you can see, I simply put mahogany closer to the bottom. Although rare, it's just not a popular woodtype in Denmark at the moment. It's still pricy, but not like 10 years ago. One day it will climb up the list again when "fashion" dictates it. | |||||

So with this insecure moment growing in time, resources are hard to get your hands on. There isnt a oil crisis, the west is just struggling to get there hands on it!! | ... Barc is primarily a stylish "sculpture for sitting"; its structural premise dictated almost everything about the sitting posture that results. By the way, the Thomas Moser furnituremakers have added a wood and leather lounge that looks suspiciously like an attempt to evoke the Barcelona -- and fails miserably to do so gracefully, in my view, despite considerable technical gymnastics. Wood furniture should be based on what wood "wants to do," of course. . . I note some effort to add lumbar-region cushioning, at least. Moser's son is doing the designing at ... | |||||
