| Risom Design used metal | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | Zephyr | Identification | |
| Risom Design used metal slides on many of their later pieces, then after dictaphone bought Risom Design, the metal slides were used on just about everything. I have a Marbel-Risom office credenza that uses metal slides. They are high-quality ball-bearing slides that allow you to pull a tab, and the whole drawer comes out. The secondary wood on Risom pieces that I have seen, has always been oak or Luan. Regardless, this is all supposition that it is Risom at this point. | |||||

| Lief, There is some info here http://www.pedrolobo.com/consumer/Jens_Risom.pdf on the acquisition of JRD by dictaphone and what became of Risom, Marble and Costa Mesa furniture lines. Once Risom sold JRD to dictaphone in 1971-I believe he stopped designing for the company. | |||||

| Not seen that configuration before... These come in a variety of configurations. A friend has a 6ft desk with drawers on a single side and a 6ft credenza in the same configuration. I had one some time ago - 6ft desk with an 8ft credenza. Even had a drawer for a dictaphone. Was awesome and huge, but alas I live in the Bay Area where space comes at a hefty price. Is your's 8ft in length? Seems much bigger than those I have seen. Either way, great find on your end. Hope you have space to enjoy it 🙂 | |||||

| Risom Design Does anyone know what year Risom Design changed over to Risom Marble Inc.? I know he sold to dictaphone but have not found any info on Risom Marble. I have an office chair I can only guess is from the 50's or 60's with the original Risom Design tag on it but have recently gotten 8 more of the same chair in another color from the same office. The tags on these chairs read Risom Marble Inc. They are definately the same chair with the same wooden frames/arms/legs and the seating surfaces are the same shape and stitching but different materials ... | |||||

The truth is that making models after calculating the vertical and horisonal shrinck and making production moulds around it to produce porcelain, stoneware, eartheware or any other kind of ceramic material was part of my education. After finishing my ceramic education I thought of it as a major mistake. I grew up in an environment in which craftspeople were considered very high on the social ladder. I admit though that, in contrast to Teague, the writing of many other industrial designers from the 1930s, and 40s and 50s, such as Henry Dreyfuss or Harold van Doren, represents a much more redesign-friendly view, i.e. much more in agreement with your thesis) The Teague quotes: " ... the ultimate form of any object - natural or man-made - is inherent i ...

| Thanks SDR, I imagine that the scale of a particular treatment might also dictate how large the pieces and degree of irregularity needed to be. (To achieve the desired sense of texture and still be unified etc.) and PS… I find the stonework to be such a large part of Wright's iconic "look", that whoever did all that stonework deserves much more historical recognition! If they can figure out who designed Peter Pepper clocks, they surely can hunt down the gifted stone mason. | |||||

| Niceguy(hmmmmmm) I have searched extensively and not found too many pictures of the label. Those I have found look a bit different than the one above. Also, I felt that as there are some people on here who know a lot about Eames products they may be able to give some insight, perhaps without bad language and bad attitude. Have you ever heard the saying "If you have nothing nice to say then say nothing at all"? It's a basic manners dictate my mother taught me early in life. | |||||

Interestingly, a corollary of authenticity in furniture is that upon occasion authenticity does not follow license. Economics dictate that this is not common, of course. But economics also dictate that the more value there is in the license the less likely authenticity will follow it.

It has design aspects from a bunch of different Danish designers, all mashed up, and executed in a really heavy, clunky way, as was typical for an American Factory imitating Danish design. Other potential candidates are Risom Design, BL Marble, and the combinations of these two companies under dictaphone, but really there were a multitude of American companies imitating Danish design at this time, that it could potentially be.

| @dnroach did you ever find any more info on the B.L. Marble (or Art Woodwork) desk with the demilune top? I just picked up one like the one in the first picture and was researching its history. Do you still have a picture of the ad you mentioned ? All the old links are dead. I read that Jens Risom sold Jens Risom Design Inc to dictaphone in 1970, which also owned B.L. Marble at the time, and they reportedly produced some of his designs in the 70's. And there is another demilune desk attributed to Risom that has some similarities (second picture). I ... | |||||

Meaning an R means different things depending on what's in front of it... like dkr(od) dining wire with eiffel lkr lounge wire with LOUNGE rod base rkr rocker wire with rocker rod base is this reasoning correct?
