| Sorry, I did not express that | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | _ | General discussion | |
| Sorry, I did not express that I was raised in the East (Asia) where sitting on the floor with the back straight up and lying down on hard surfaces is typical. This for me is comfort regardless of form. I don't think I am sacrificing comfort by removing the seat cushions on my wire chairs, I just prefer sitting on firm surfaces and it is not like it will dice the sitter into cubes if removed, and I don't see anything wrong with only acquiring useful pieces that suits me personally. I don't know why the original owner had a need for two head bolsters on the ... | |||||

| oh, zip what? Yes, potatoes. Nice bright creamy yellow flesh of a youkon gold? An Idaho style would be to mealy. I ended up using small sliced rings of a few fingerlings and a diced-very-fine southern yam. Added at the proper time for correct cooking. | |||||
| Help Identifying this loveseat | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | Pesi | Identification | |
| My husband and I purchased this loveseat many years ago from a vintage store in Portland, Oregon. It didn't come with any information. Does anyone have any clues about who might have made this, when it was made, or the style? Each seat is independent from the base and lifts right off. Thank you 🙂 | |||||
| I'm not an expert refinisher | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | Spanky | Repair | |
| I'm not an expert refinisher but one thing that I've learned through experience is that applying a different finish on top of an existing one where some areas have no finish can be dicey. The worn areas may end up different in color than the areas that still had original finish. NOTE: I say "may". Maybe it'll all be one perfectly even color that looks totally natural, if you're lucky. Regarding Mohawk brand tinted lacquer: will the pigments start to obscure the grain at some point or is the color shear enough that that's not an issue? I have never used ... | |||||

| Oh I love I love the Saarinen Executive series. I campaigned long and hard against my boyfriend to get them for the dining room. Sadly - no dice. I recognize the limitations of the LCW, but - since my knees are still ok - I've chosen to overlook them 🙂 You make a great point about the "reinventing the wheel" that the Eames seemed to do a lot, whereas Eero did it once and then moved on. However, my main issue was with the Tulip chair, not the executive. The base of the tulip is just SO dreadfully clunky and heavy. It fucks up your floor if you slide it, ... | |||||
| I dunno...the upholstery... | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | finch | General discussion | |
| I dunno...the upholstery... I dunno...the upholstery shop suggested a steam treatment would bring it back up. I thought it was a cop out, too. As for leaving it be in hopes of a resurrection -- I am often away for weeks at a time, and the chair still looks the same, so...no dice. I was just wondering if anyone else had messed with this before, as said upholstery shop suggested that I ship them my rather heavy chair there and back, out of my own pocket, so that they could steam out the dents. They have insisted that the distinctly thigh-shaped dents in the se ... | |||||

| As I was standing here making my mother's fruit salad that has graced first hers and now my Thanksgiving table for no less than 47 years, it occurred to me just how ghetto/retro this dish is. Are any of you still eating hand-me-down recipes from the 50's and 60's? Be honest! I know somebody is eating green Jello salad with cottage cheese and pineapple, ha! Riki's Mom's Fruit Salad Drain 2 large cans of fruit cocktail (the kind with the random maraschino cherries in it) and 2 small cans of mandarin orange slices in a colander. The search engine for the forum is kinda dicey--better to just do a google search with the words Design Addict. There was a guy here who posted regularly about Eames shell chairs and knew quite a bit but he's been mostly absent for quite awhile. We need a bat signal for him, except with a Herman Miller logo. | |||||

| I've never had a problem with alcohol loosening up glue! I wouldn't worry about it. Water will leave white marks on a shellac finish so that's probably what happened when you added hot water to the alcohol. Sounds like a kind of dicey thing to do with a flammable liquid but I dunno...I never took chemistry, I just do a lot of googling. | |||||

| Have you all checked out this site? Judging by the prices and the lack of brand names, I assume they sell knockoffs, but why are they so expensive compared to the average knockoffs? I mean, their Arne Jacobsen Series 7 chair is just under $300. A real one is $433. A Chinese knockoff is about $80. Are these just better copies? It seems a little dicey to be selling blatent copies (including names) of these items. Just curious what you all think. fm | |||||

| ... I have found a few companies that look like they may or may not produce items to specifications; this becomes especially dicey when it comes to the materials that a given establishment works in. It seems an obstacle to find, for example a shop that will both make my part, and do it in stainless; or at least anything other than brass. Does anyone here know where I might look? Thanks~David | |||||

| projector? I'd like to cut out a hole in the wall behind my couch and flush mount a projector. Ventilation may be an issue though. I'd also need a fairly low profile projector. Sorry if a projector was already mentioned above - the conversation looked a bit dicey in spots so I just looked at the pictures. | |||||

| ... portion of the chair is causing it to self-destruct. It appears the wood has "un-bent" a little at a time over the last few decades, causing nearly every glue joints to pop and separate- which leads me to my second question: is it even worth having the chair reglued? I didn't spend too much ($200) on it, but I don't know that the actual value warrants going through the additional expense of having it professionally glued. I've added a couple of photos below. Other than the shape of the chair, the only things I can identify as perhaps "identifiable"(other th ... | |||||

| ... availability keeps it a desirable and collectible item. Several years ago I visited an incredible knife store in Texas that contained a stunning myriad of automatic knives, but beyond that I think a person just kind of has to get lucky in the black or charcoal gray market to even see them. I understand that knife laws are (or were?) a bit more open in Europe. For instance, I once knew a person to bring back as a souvenir, from a high school band trip to Germany, a quite decent and fairly large automatic knife rather unhidden in his suitcase, on the plane ... | |||||

The cars without spoilers, even though a bit dicey in the handling department, are highly sought after. I would love to have one and just park it in my living room as a piece of sculpture. | |||||
