| Photos I am a Gilbert Rhode fan. You can find a great book at Barnes and Noble which highlights many of his pieces. You could also consign with a shop that is listed on 1st dibs. | |||||

| Whoops I get my Greta's mixed-up! At least I didn't say Greta Garbo. That weird tall eyeball lamp is a super rare Cobra lamp that a friend had back in the 1990's. It's a definite high-end art lamp, designed Angelo Lelli for Arredoluce in 1964. It's a very rare and expensive lamp....sometimes found at 1st dibs for thousands of buckaroos. | |||||

| ... have fallen into that cliche myself, but I don't begrudge others from choosing things that are more personal. Personally I would look for the rare Mulhauser lounge chair that is on 4 legs, not on the swivel base. Or I would search out some of the more esoteric and weird variations on the plywood lounges. Or if quality is an issue you might try some of the other lesser known lounge chairs - I've seen quite a few Wegner Poppa Bears on 1st dibs that aren't (surprisingly) outrageous. | |||||

| Oops.. Forgot about 1st dibs. I would be cautious about using their prices as a guide...most would agree they are wildly inflated. | |||||

| That's what I meant.... this seller usually sells nothing but top quality originals - at higher than average prices. I've heard mixed things about him here on the forum. I don't think he's dishonest, but he charges top dollar - approaching 1st dibs prices. Now, as regards the fake cushions, at $89.00, it's a decent price...Knoll sells the Tulip cushios for $279.00. | |||||

| ... be surprised at the thin profit margins people are operating at. It makes me a bit nuts every time folks act as if the Knolls, Herman Millers, Fritz Hansens (and even vintage dealers on 1st dibs) are all robber barons gouging people and raking in huge profits. Try it sometime. Create a unique product, pay for its creation (and all the associated costs) and the marketing of that product, build a retail network and then try to sell it wholesale at a price that gives the retailer room to offer a discount and still make something on it for their work. I have. W ... | |||||

| Pegboard Modern do you own a tugendhat? i just bought one last month, in the original tan with knoll sticker on it. I gave 3000 US dollars i think that was a fair price . Wright auction had a pair for 9000. and someone on 1st dibs has one for 5800. I think it is really a different chair and glad i bought it. I love the Barcelona chairs from knoll i gave two to my daughter for her new apt, but these are really different and rich in history. | |||||

| it has a different feel ... it has a different feel to it more upright, than the low back Barcelona chair. I like it cause it is so unusual and i have only seen the chair on 1st dibs. | |||||

| OK...I saw it on eBay too in my opinion, it's too expensive. Even more than what you'd pay for it on 1st dibs. | |||||

| .... yeah. eBay is going down hill. As for people who sell on eBay, its starting to.. not be worth the effort. Its going to do the average retail buyer harm. I'm skipping eBay and selling more and more directly to dealers in LA and NY, as are some other people I know. Joe Schmo is going to have to pay 1st dibs prices for their sought after piece instead of wholesale prices on eBay. Absolutely - people don't have to pay, people who know nothing about the item, are bidding. Changing their minds. Trying to haggle the price after the auctions end, because t ... | |||||

| I was in NY last week and I... I was in NY last week and I visited 7 shops that advertise on 1st dibs. For some reason I was expecting a cold reception but of the shops where I engaged the salespeople in conversation they were all extremely welcoming and nice and helpful. A funny thing happened in one of the shops we visited where there were 3 assistants, my wife asked for a pricecheck on a set of quite stunning cutlery, the girl with her turned to a guy at a computer and asked him what price it was,he shouted back 32,000 and the assistant who was with my wife ... | |||||

| No, but those jokers who disguise the price as POR/POA are doing us and themselves a disservice. They have the right to sell an item at whatever price they want, but they must assume that anyone looking might want to know the price without having to take the extra time to email them with the request of price. And, I already mentioned that I'm just insecure enough to wonder if the price they quote me is the same price they quote others. If they list the price, then there's no reason to wonder. Heck, 1st dibs posts prices; all they ask if that you create a nic ... | |||||

| ... stuff to be had in your area? 2. Time - How much hunting and pecking are you willing to do? 3. Cost - How tight is your budget? Number 2 and 3 are directly related in my experience. Places that are more likely to turn up good finds and probably require less hunting and fewer visits usually have higher prices. 1st dibs for example. In my town those places are estate sales and used furniture stores. I have had great luck with rummage sales, especially Church ones. Maybe people are very generous when donating to churches, I don't know. Riki, being in the ... | |||||
