| Went to the show this... Went to the show this morning--very impressive. All 1stdibs dealers with their finest wares. Like going to a museum, really. Higher rent than the 3X pier show and even the armory shows. 1st dibs emailed me free tickets and its around the corner from my office...I may go again later 😉 | |||||

Wasn't familiar with them but quickly saw that the numerous examples all over the Internet were being sold as "mid century (or 1950s) Frederick (sic) Weinberg." Then I saw that they were all identical to a chair sold by the chain store mass marketer Pier 1 Imports in the 1990s, $39.95 USD. I contacted the guy who is writing a book on Frederic Weinberg, has been researching the subject for years, and has all the Weinberg Company catalogues and lots of related mater ... | |||||

| ... looked exactly like Umanoff's other bars (as seen on 1st dibs) plus the scroll design all down the front. However, the wood structure within it was destroyed from years of neglect and I chose not to replace it. I just put in glass shelves and let the iron be the focal point. Anyway, I sure would like to know why they keep saying this scroll design was Umanoff's design one minute and Salterini the next. I personally think it is more than likely Umanoff's design because the bar design and bar chair is the same base style as all of his other bars and chairs. A ... | |||||

| ... to define the curve. The originals had a 1" (or so) layer of latex foam glued to the inside back and the fabric was glued directly to that. They also had an extra 1" to 1.5" of latex foam in the lumbar area and at the top to form a headrest. If you ever want to get yours redone for some reason, keep this in mind. This one was unmarked, too. I've seen a bunch on 1st dibs. I think some were attributed to Vodder but I've never seen proof of that. | |||||

| ... I am seriously wondering where people find these bargain saarinen tables? I am willing to be flexible about the type of wood, but i can't be flexible about size. I have spent 18 months looking and this is what i have found: Local shops-nothing Craigslist- maybe 3 saarinen tables-1 knockoff, 1 smaller laminate dining table, 1 54" laminate purchased a few years ago at Design Within Reach. Ebay: very few 54", all marble or laminate, all within a few hundred dollars of new Knoll price (plus shipping) or in very poor condition 1st dibs and vintage shops with onl ... | |||||

| A skilled upholsterer can... A skilled upholsterer can copy the original cushions from photos. There are plenty online. The cushion shape follows the lines of the chair. There are probably closeups of the loops on the upper corners somewhere if you look hard enough (1st dibs is good for detail shots). The only thing that might be a little tricky is knowing how much extra to allow for the leather that is taken up by the tufting, but a good upholsterer will know how to do that, too. | |||||

| wow You're right, spacepirate! And now I'm even more amazed at the crummy upholstery in the one above. I thought it was some cheap job that someone on 1st dibs did just to sell the chair (with the idea that the new owner would get it done correctly). But hey, it gets worse--- | |||||

| Re: to lunchbox It's the exact same table from the Rago auction cited by Pegboard, its only the chairs that differ - that's what I'm trying to get more info on and the point of my post here. The chairs obviously match the table and were designed to go with it. I think the chairs in my photo are a closer match (design wise) than the chairs pictured in the Rago auction. They mirror the table design and were bought as a set by the original owner. I read the previous thread - pegboard questioned the coffee / side tables being a Nelson design - not the table/ ch ... | |||||
