| ... But I have also come to appreciate value in quality and design. If you buy things that are well made and well designed (and yes vintage or collectible) they will hold up visually and physically offering years of service and enjoyment rather than ending up on the curb or in the landfill when they break or you tire of them. Frequently they will hold their value, sometimes they even increase, which is nice. Regardless of any collectible cache or investment value I often look at vintage pieces and think, "what would a comparable item cost if you bought it new". ... | |||||

| Sorry ... if I was not clear with my statements. I do understand that there is a wide range of people and opinions regarding budget and value. I did say that I do not follow prices on eBay. When I do look on there, it seems very bizarre to me. I see sellers asking prices the same or even in excess of those I see on 1st dibs and many of those sellers do not have any of the overhead that those of us selling on 1st dibs or in any retail context incur. I do not think that someone selling out of their basement or garage with little or no history or reputation at ... | |||||

| I don't want to steer the buyer in the wrong direction. There is a benefit to actually being able to see what you are purchasing as opposed to purchasing this on Ebay plus the fact that I can picture a leg breaking during shipping. I have received my fair share of Ebay items damaged secondary to usually a combination of poor packaging and manhandling of the item by UPS etc.. I know we have all at some point in time received an item that is chipped, stained etc and this was not disclosed in the listing. Imagine having to send this back or having to try an ... | |||||

| 1950's Italian Hi, I did a google search and came up with one on 1st dibs. (see 1st picture) It doesn't provide any info but it's very much in the style of an Arredoluce lamp (see 2nd picture). Good luck with your search. I am also trying to find the designer of a pair of 1950's wall lamps. I guess I will just have to keep looking. Cheers, Tick. | We got an advanced notice... We got an advanced notice from a friend, beat the auction house to the door by 3 hours. Got first dibs. Lady knew what she had, but was willing to part with them for a good price because she was motivated due to moving to overseas. What amazes me is how good of condition they are in. They had made fitted slip covers for each cushion! The veneers have hardly a scratch, cushions are all in tact, and all shock mounts and hardware are firm. I almost could not believe the leather could have lasted 50 years, but they said they hardly ... | |||||

| ... the intention of reselling it. I do not agree that the prices being asked on line are outrageous. I don't follow eBay, but on 1st dibs, that desk ranges between $1500 and $3700. Of course, everyone knows that nearly every dealer is willing to discount their prices if asked nicely. You ask what they are going for, but it seems like you answered your own question... more than $700. Where can you get a new product of that quality for less? I think that if you have a use for a desk and chair, you like that design and it meets your needs, space, and aesthetic, ... | |||||
| current offerings of rounded corner base nelson bench | 1 Relevance | 13 years ago | Eameshead | General discussion | |
| current offerings of rounded corner base nelson bench A quick search turned up several benches for sale (or previously sold) that have the the early rounded edges to the base, and most are indeed paired with early nelson cases. MY MODERN and FARNSWORTH (on the First dibs site) to name just a couple. Both are listed as c 1948 examples, and both have clear photos that show the edges to the bases. These are supporting early nelson cases. I also doubt that anyone would fake a 102" bench, or ask that kind of money for the combo if parts were not authentic. Moving ... | |||||

Knots would show, though ok, this one on 1st dibs with original wrapping looks like it has a knot in the center back near the bottom: eta: dang, can't link to 1st dibs photos, I guess. Well, anyway, there was an obvious knot and then I found another one on dibs that had some kind of joint in the center back. I would much prefer to have the back look just like the first if I was doing these. I think getting the rush nice and pliable by soaking and then using a clamp or two as you go (top and bottom) might work. That's what I'd try, any ...

| I know someone who has repainted a few different lamps and they came out very nice. Pretty sure he uses Rust-oleum satin spray paint. Test is out on something else first. When you go to spray the actual lamp, take a piece of cardboard and place beside it to start the spray on it before making your way across the shades in strokes as you don't want to start the stroke on the shade itself. If there are flakes of paint missing from the original it will look bad so would take a very fine sand paper and do your best to even out the edges. Make sure to get all ... | |||||

| I got this lucite and brass f... I got this lucite and brass floor/torchiere lamp last week for $5. Excellent shape. The brass sheet metal is all hand formed and welded to form the faceted shade. The lamp cord is concealed in a channel on the edge of the clear lucite column. I don't normally collect 80's (70's?) items, but I also can't pass up something this finely made when it is virtually free. I saw one on 1st dibs, but it was only identified as being in the style of Karl Springer. | |||||

I also have the vitra model, and I was thinking of selling it now that I have the original, but I think I will move it to another room.

| Here you go This seller sites a reference so i assume it is actually by lightolier. Don't get so hyped with the price as all these 1st dibs dealers think they have uncovered gold. It is an awesome lamp though. I am jealous. I would have had a grin from ear to ear if I found that. http://www.1stdibs.com/furniture_item_detail.php?id=361088 | |||||

| Thanks Spanky... that was a good call, there were some good examples on 1st dibs. Also great advice on foam density. I would still LOVE a good detail photo of the SEAM at the bottom on the backs of the two back supports. I'm assuming that an experienced uphosterer will see it and say something to the effect of, "Oh, that's a yada yada, we can do that". If anyone can provide one it would be much appreciated. | |||||
