| I tend to respectfully | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | ossrk79 | Identification | |
| I tend to respectfully disagree. I'd give a lot of weight to seeing a piece in person and having a knowledge of construction and design styles, as a base point from which to start gaining an attribution. I am a little more hesitant if this wasn't an export piece. You can never trust a seller's account. There was a difference between the export market stuff to Canada where I'm located and the stuff that I've seen that's been brought from Europe. I'm not an Etsy or dibs seller trying to make a huge profit by slapping a fabricated name on something. I work w ... | |||||
| I have no idea of the value | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | Spanky | General discussion | |
| I have no idea of the value and this place doesn't go in for free appraisals, but you can always just look at final sale prices online over time to get an idea. Don't go by asking prices on sites like 1st dibs, Chairish, etc--they are generally a lot higher than the market will bear due to various factors. Asking prices in general aren't a good indicator since a lot of dealers start high and end up accepting a lower offer which doesn't show up. Auction prices are a better indicator. | |||||
| My first restoration project | 1 Relevance | 10 years ago | Seb2143 | Identification | |
| ... Erik Jensen on Craigslist and did the restoration myself. I actually sort of acquired it y accident because I was buying a rosewood bed by Dyrlund Smith (I included a photo of the headboard) and the seller had it as a requirement to by both pieces. Long story short I was planning to resell it but now that I have restored it I have really fallen in love with it and plan to keep it 🙂 I have attached the before and after photos. Two questions if I may. The stamp on the back lists the furniture maker as Erik Jensen. I can't seem to find much about the designer ... | |||||
| Milo Baughman walnut barrel back chair | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | Schmeldo | Identification | |
| Does anyone know if this is Milo Baughman? 1st dibs (I know) shows one that sold as Baughman. I've searched everywhere and I can't find another chair like this, which leads me to believe it's not. I've Google searched every permutation of MSM, Danish Modern, Walnut, Barrel Back, High-Back, Peabody, Nemschoff and found nothing. Thanks for your help. Mel | |||||
| Scandinavian 'Mini Bear' Style Chairs - ID help please. | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | AMF | Identification | |
| Hi there, I recently picked up these chairs. I believe they are Scandinavian and likely 50s or early 60s. They've been reupholstered along the way. They have nice form and very unique sculpted armrests/hand-rests. I've searched the index and have scoured the internet. I've found the same chair on dibs - but it is not attributed to a designer. I believe it says 'Hans Wegner Mama Bear Style'. I know they are not Wegner. But very curious for more information on designer and origin. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! | |||||
| Dux chrome armchairs, any idea on the designer? | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | Reamie | Identification | |
| I just picked up a set of 4 Dux chairs, possibly a dining chair set? I have tried to find another example that would give an idea of a designer, however I can't find anything definitive. I could only find one old 1st dibs listing through Pinterest that were the same chair. I would love to have them reupholstered as it is tired, particularly on he arms. However I may end up passing them on as this may be too pricey for me! If anyone has seen them before or knows the designer that would be amazing! They're so comfy and sleek! | |||||

| @spanky I thought I uploaded another. I did it on my phone, so it must not have gone through. The closest sofa I found on 1st dibs was a Pearsall, so that was my jumping off point. I have no clue. And unfortunately, I've deleted the photos I had of it. I'll try taking another in a day or two. Thanks! | |||||

| Well, if you look at the pictures i posted the base is identical to the other vodder pieces discussed above. The cabinet is clearly finn juhl- it's nearly identical to his baker wall hanging cabinet. The question should be obvious. To who goes the design credit if this is documented anywhere? Juhl or Vodder? https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/storage-case-pieces/cabinets/finn-juhl... It also looks like in that dibs listing that the cabinet portion could have been a wall mounted unit. | |||||

| Thank you everyone for your comments. So very helpful. The pair of chairs pictured by Stig were sold on 1st dibs by the same dealer as the one pictured below. I emailed the dealer to see how he vetted them, but no reply. Messaged Thayer Coggin with pics thru Facebook - (they don't list any emails on their contact page - strange.) But haven't heard back. (Obvious typo on the MCM in my 1st post-oops) Zephyr - the finger joinery was what had me leaning towards MB. I know that EVERYTHING now is attributed to him. The search continues. Again - thanks so much. ... | |||||
| Assessing damage done in moving | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | nstewart10 | Repair | |
| We moved recently and our Niels Moller dining room table arrived at our destination with damage to the leg from being removed after it left our home. I am filing a claim with the insurance company and feel that even though the table could be repaired, its worth is greatly diminished by the damage. Has anyone experienced anything like this and what is your advice? I see the exact table on sale on 1st dibs for $2900. The table was new when we bought it around 1999 from a furniture dealer in Ft. Myers. | |||||

| ... Louis Poulsen, Herman Miller, Knoll and many others.. (Edit: This is for context and not meant as trying to promote a business... I hope this is within the rules of this forum..) I know William Pritchard well and I know his passion for everything mid-century and particularly Danish Modern... I also know that he is a man of integrity and honest to the core. This post has been completely devastating to him! Having talked to him in detail about the events that lead to this post, I find this post disturbing not to mention self serving in a very sadistic way. I ... | |||||

| I appreciate the response, though the chairs are not the same as what I am seeing when I search on line. In fact, aside from these 6 chairs, I have only ever seen one other like them online. It was posted on 1st dibs along with a Heywood Desk. I am still researching these, but if anyone else has owned these exact chairs or has any documentation, I would be very appreciative. | |||||
