| Try searching MCM, instead of MSM to start. I am not sure I would describe this as a "barrel-back" lounge chair, but it is not that far off the mark. Also, if it were Milo Baughman, it would most likely have been produced by Thayer Coggin, as they did most of his walnut chair designs. He also worked with Mode Furniture, Glenn of California, The Inco Company, Pacific Iron, Murray Furniture of Winchendon, Arch Gordon, Design Institute America, George Kovacs, directional, Henredon and Drexel. At the end of the day, I think it is unlikely that you will find a ... | |||||

| ... 1st dibbs and most of the other similar online forums are usually much higher than the reality of what something will actually fetch when sold. There is also a very strong dependency on where you try to sell and condition. As for the chairs, I think it is safe to say they are real, as they are marked Plycraft, and they did indeed make these chairs. I dont know for sure, but I have seen the table paired with the chairs before, so I think it is safe to assume that this is also legit. There are others on the forum that are far more experienced with the Amer ... | |||||

Thonet did not have anyone of real note designing for them (even Bruno Weill is not notable in the pantheon of Mid-century designers), so other than quenching the desire to know the designer (which is statistically-speaking most likely an unknown in-house person), there is little value gained by knowing the designer. If you found a believable design credit for the upholstered version, then it is extremely likely that the same person designed upholstered and bare-ply versions. ...

| Thank you so much for the insight provided, I've only just read the responses. What you're saying makes perfect sense. Haha I fell upon 1st dibbs and thought I'd hit the jackpot 🙂 I'm located in Montreal, so a bit far from Chicago... I've since found some potential buyers in Montreal, hopefully I can find a new home for these. I would like to see these go to a home where people actually appreciate them. Thanks again, and sorry for breaking any rules!! | |||||

| Well now. Here's another chair, likely from the same batch, that was sold on 1st dibbs. (I referred earlier to JP Morgan, but of course, the chair's inventory is from Chase Manhattan. They later merged. https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/seating/office-chairs-desk-chairs/hans... | |||||

| Hi Hi Here is an update on my search. This same chair was spotted on 1st dibbs, and was listed as Salterini produced. They call it "Maurizio Tempestini for Salterini" So when I was at that garage sale, and the lady said her price was 30 dollars for the pair I bought, I didn't have to think long about it! I just hope the dealer has the attribution right. I wonder if the common person can tell they are worth more than cheap crap from K-mart, with Martha's name on them? It was a fun conclusion! http://tftm.1stdibs.com/itemdetails.php?id=161896 http://tft ... | |||||

| Well, I suppose the question ... Well, I suppose the question wasn't so much about actual cost as I'll have to determine that when my next pay cheque comes in. I was more concerned with the vintage of the table and possible designer if known ? As for the colour difference, I like that contrast in extension leaves. Gives it a good, honest, vintage feel. I can't stand furniture which has been restored, or worse, over restored. Most of my small and modest collection of furniture is in original condition and it's that mellow feel and the knock and bumps which ha ... | |||||

| Dr.P, Gustav Bahus produced a free standing wall unit which has shelves with the same profile as yours. ( image below from a 1st. dibs listing.) The Bahus uprights are different....but it is possible your shelves have been married with the cado style wall batons. Just a suggestion and as Leif has said, without case pieces it will be hard to pin down. Regards, Lexi | |||||

| Rule #3 under basic rules identifies that the forum does not do valuations, but I am not sure there is a really good way to do one for you anyways. As Leif said, you really need to know the venue you plan to sell the pieces. Ebay will be different than at auction, which will be different than in a retail situation, which will be different than Craigslist. Of course, where you are located adds further complexities, and condition will also play a part. They look like they are in good condition in the photos, and you say they are in good condition, but both ... | |||||
| Re-issued items vs. original in collecting ie Nelson | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | rockybird | General discussion | |
| I am looking at buying a nelson wind-up clock - the spindle version. It's not cheap, given the price of the Vitra clock. I have wanted an original for awhile, and now I am wondering if the price is worth it. Is there a way to know a fair price for these clocks? 1st dibbs seems high on everything. Unfortunately, I dont seem to come across bargains like you all do. 🙁 I am still confused on value of an original vs. the re-issued version. I personally prefer the original, but if it's foolish to purchase it at twice the price of the re-issued clock, I d ... | |||||

| Very excited about my purchase today ... a sweet little Lounger by Thayer Coggin. It is unmarked, but pretty unmistakable as T C. Everything I have seen attributed the design to Milo, but need to find something more official than 1st dibbs. In any case, it is solid teak, missing the original cushions, but beautiful details and work on creating arms that flow into the back-rest, a lot like Wegner. Slung really low, but still pretty darn comfortable. Love the lines of this chair, so I think it will stay with me for a while. Going to sand it a bit and then ... | |||||

And if I see the same products over and over on Ebay or 1st dibbs, it's nice to see an alteration. Example: In my dining, I have a couple Bertoia side chairs. The top portions are painted white and the bottom are primary yellow. Not authentic but a breath of fresh air from the over-populated midcentury side chair.
| Italian marble coffee table or Robsjohn Gibbings?? ID Help Please. | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | AMF | Identification | |
| HNY!!! Wondering if anyone has any information on...what I believe to be a carrara marble coffee table with brass legs. I immediately thought Italian and found some similarities to Rene Brancusi (images on dibs). Someone mentioned perhaps it might be Robsjohn Gibbings. Still no match in my search. Just thought I'd throw it out here to see if someone might be able to help solve the mystery. Many thanks! | |||||

| I just did a google search for "steel ribbon chair", because they look like ribbons to me and I thought probably other people would think the same thing. Anyway, one or two showed up but with a chrome finish. One was on 1st dibs and the seller said "Designer unknown" and dated them to the 70s. Seems like they could be as late as the 90s to me. | |||||
