| BP&S Buffet When I got this buffet in 2006 after my parent's passing, I tried to locate info on Bernh Pederson & Son, Eskilstrup, to no avail; so happy to have it now! Its dimensions are 65"W x 31"H x 19.5"D, and is in great original condition. They bought it in the mid-'70's from my father's boss, who bought it new in Lake Forest, IL, near Chicago. The solid construction and diappearing Tambor doors are a delight, admired by all who see it. I would like to know the approximate date of manufacture, as it's a keeper! Thanks for any help, TG | |||||

| SDR As it has been said in another thread (Eames lounge chair I think), as soon as the furniture is more than 20 years old, any one can copy it, with the exact dimensions, the exact materials. I am just re writing what has been said by a contributor, I don't know anything about copyright. If so, the question would be, why is there any difference on this particular chair ? We can also read in this thread that the knockoff are more comfortable than Knoll version. It might come from that. But that is, for me as well, a diappointment. My 2 LC2, are visually iden ... | |||||

I like the handle--its quite like my old Emmy in placement, shape and texture. I like the colors. They add visibility (seat trim at top) at points where its useful AND at points of high contact (wheels, handle, grab rail and seat) seem to minimize soiling. But... The buggaboo seems to suffer from short wheelbase syndrome, a high center of gravity, no apparent storage capacity (never go ...

| I was at DWR in Dallas this morning and I was very diapointed in the Eames Bucket chair made by Vitra. Charles and Ray would be very sad about this chair. It comes in 4 colors and I saw white (although not that bad just disapointing) It looks like something that Karim Rashid would wip up in is studio . I don't like that they are just one dimenshional flat plastic, at least Modernica tried to rip off the original with fiberglass these folks said the hell with you all. we hold the ri ... | |||||

Do you think the average person becomes verklempt after seeing / walking through a building? Maybe a handful of people even know what you're talking about and most certainly not every building should be catered to that same handful of people. Question: My thoughts? Hypothesis: Burn it down and build something better. Not every building needs to be preserved, especially when it's function i ...

The cold scientific objectivity and matter-of-fact approach to the intimate, personal life of Le Corbusier reflects the "clinical" approach of Naïma Jornod who was the cardiologist who performed the first heart transplant in Switzerland. To historians, "primary sources" -- journals and diaries made when the events described were happening, dated photos, etc -- are worth a great deal more than recollections recorded at some later time. In second-thinking the photo with a certain bench in Nelson's office: just because the photo shows a bench there on a certain date, that doesn't tell us anything about who put it there (ie, who designed and/or made it) -- it only proves that it existed at that time.

| . June 14, 2005 David Whitney, 66, Renowned Art Collector, dies By RANDY KENNEDY David Whitney, a respected curator and prominent collector of contemporary art who was Philip Johnson's companion, acerbic alter ego and behind-the-scenes art adviser for more than 40 years, died on Sunday at the NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell hospital. He was 66. The cause was lung and bone cancer, said his sister, Anne Norsworthy. Though probably best known in New York social circles as a legendary architect's publicity-shy éminence grise, Mr. Whitney was a force of his ow ... | |||||

They sought to rationalize everything they touched and approached doing so with a highly abstract vocabulary. Through abstraction, they rationalized the subject matter of art, design, architecture and literature. They had dicta like "make it new," and "not ideas about the thing, but the thing itself." They also evolved into wanting their work to have a social message, as Koen has pointed out. But I also suspect that post modernists would say they wa ...
