EOG -- Rohde's Executive Office Group -- had 15 components, out of which 400 things could be made!' "The ideas were all very valid and all very hard to sell. In the late 1930s, when he developed EOG, Rohde was trying to find a manufacturer. De Pree suggested Herman Miller, but Rohde protested. 'You're having enough trouble paying my royalties as it is.' He tried manufacturers in New York, Boston, an ...

| My bertoia chair pad story First, you can get chair pads at highbrowfurniture.com (no shipping costs) for $135, which, in my view, is a pretty good price. I believe the full diamond pads run about $150. Also, check ebay, but I'm on ebay looking for one, too, so if I find you bidding against me, then it's on! As for my chair pad story - won an orange full diamond pad on ebay for $50, plus $15 shipping. I paid the seller, and he claims he shipped it. I never got it. The fact that he was extremely quick to refund my money suggests to me that he probably sol ... | |||||

Instead of being the rational building that examplifies modernism, his rational, functional and democratic mission, it is highly symbolic and a metaphore for all the irational motivations that move us. By the way...Craig Kellogg, as I have done many times, refers to only two, white originals, and yet there is an old picture by a German magazine that shows the pavilion with two white an ...

| I agree with ZM in regards to... I agree with ZM in regards to the comfort of the smaller Bertoia diamond chairs. I have found near-perfect examples in each finish (chrome, white, and black) found at flea markets, and ordered new seat pads from Knoll through circa50. I have always admired these chairs first for their sculptural beauty, but once I sat in them, they have quickly become one of my favorite chairs to sit and relax in! Maybe it's because I'm a smaller-framed person, but I can sprawl out over the arms and almost recline fully across it. I can even ... | |||||

| Opposing Asses Here comes the alternate opinion: I find the Bertoia diamond chairs to be extrememly comfortable. You'd think "no way" can this be comfortable without a pad but I can sit in 'em for long periods of time out by the pool (watch out for those waffle marks though). There's something about the contour of the seating cup and back that fits me quite nicely. I am also a huge fan of the Bird chair too... but that one needs a cover. | |||||

| I think Olive has a crush David, where were you when I needed you? The diamond chairs cost a fraction of the what the LC4 and MR lounge chairs will cost me. Had you been there, sitting in a diamond chair flaunting your "hunky, model good looks" my wife would have stopped right there. She never would've noticed the others and I I'd save a bunch of money... which I then could spend on a new bass boat (an obviously male-gendered object). I know, KRP, wrong thread. | |||||

| True enough but ... Oh yeah, finding a Knoll dealer in Europe is no problem. But I won't pay full price! Fx. a Knoll diamond seat pad in vinyl costs between $385 and $815 (based on the quality) here in Denmark while at Internet based US stores you can buy them at $132. So, who of these stores in the US will ship such a pad to Denmark? Apparently Knoll has made it clear to all shops not to ship their products to Europe. Even with shipping I can save a lot of money. | |||||

| value of the originals (1960's) Thanks for the comment and description of the diamond bertoia chairs. I now have a pretty good idea mine are originals. But who could put a value on it. They are painted white, and show a little corrosion as they have always been used as exterior furniture. THX! | |||||

| Identifying Bertoia chairs The Bertoia diamond chairs were made by Knoll. Unfortunately Knoll have never stamped or marked the diamond chairs in any way. Sounds pretty much like you have original Knoll Bertoia chairs if your Grandmother bought them in the 60s. Not sure of the value though if they have been repainted and have corrosion. There is another thread on identifying Bertoia chairs here: http://www.designaddict.com/design_addict/forums/index.cfm/fuseaction/th... Good luck, Ben. | |||||

| authentic? I just bought two early diamond chairs with original (if a bit worn!) vinyl covers. The framework is exactly as described by you with the latticework to the top. Not sure about the weight issue..I have been told however that the wire was made thicker in later models, as the early ones were elegant but far from indestructible. Also the wire seat shell is detachable from the sled-base by four bolts. Anyhow, the wire on these early ones is 5mm dia on the outer edge, and 3.5mm dia on the wire lattice. Enjoy your bargain! | |||||
