| BL is the first post modern thing I have ever really liked... Yep, it is post modern TV for sure, even down to the chairs on the balcony. 🙂 | |||||
| I think the thing I'd be keen | 2 Relevance | 9 years ago | Kyle Barrett | General discussion | |
| I think the thing I'd be keen to stress is that drying out lumber like that either requires kiln drying or years of drying it, as far as your 'considerable period' goes. And as I understand it drying isn't the issue exclusively: while lumber can be dry within a few years, how it shifts after it's dried is equally important. | |||||
| This poor thing had seen | 2 Relevance | 9 years ago | _ | General discussion | |
| This poor thing had seen better days but I just cannot let it go to the landfill yet. It had to be dipped in a sink full of boiling water to sterilize it and soaked in a solution of white cooking vinegar & table salt & another round of lime juice & baking soda & some elbow grease...it is not cover girl perfect but still has a few more years of shelf life to do what it was intended to do besides the usual display only. | The museum thing | 2 Relevance | 22 years ago | Olive | General discussion | |
| The museum thing Norm, I agree with gerrit. If you want to keep it like the original just to keep it like the original, then you will be living (and most likely uncomfortably) in a museum. But if you truly love the original then go ahead and pay homage. However, I don't see why you can't both honor the original and adapt it to suit your needs as long as keep wit hthe intent of the original design and don't "re-muddle" as so many folks do. Will you share with us who the architect was? I'm curious! | |||||

| My first time posting in "the last thing acquired" threads I picked those up earlier in the week. The three legged one reminded me a bit of Sottsass, although I am pretty sure it is just some generic piece, however the second one is possible a Raymor, judging by the sticker residue which ressembles other Raymor stickers I've seen. Maybe one one of you can shed some light. | |||||
| Just one thing | 2 Relevance | 22 years ago | koen | General discussion | |
| Just one thing If you do not want the puffy look and padded sides, which is probably not what you want to do, you should still cover the edge of the sonotube or the fibertubes you finf at Outwater...what a place... with a strip of foam. even as thin as 3/16" it will prevent the edge from wearing earlier than the rest of the surface. Even the best and even sanding of the edge is not enough to prevent this. By now, and regardless the outcome this Ottoman should be published at least on DA...although I am too ignorant to understand the instructions on how to put these nice jacquard pictures in a DA message. I guess it's better that way! | |||||
| The only thing I've ever seen | 2 Relevance | 14 years ago | Spanky | General discussion | |
| The only thing I've ever seen was that paper label that you're not supposed to remove or else you'll go to jail (not really). They were usually not stapled down completely and the corners would stick up, so probably people tore them off. I just look for the screws on the outer shell. The platform armrests are definitely a mark of Plycraft though they also did a curved armrest that was upholstered by wrapping the vinyl or leather around to the underside (no welt, no boxing). I can never remember what the deal is with chairs of the same design made by Selig, though. I'm pretty sure we discussed it here a few years back. | |||||
| The thing about George's Coney Island, Heath, | 2 Relevance | 15 years ago | tktoo | General discussion | |
| The thing about George's Coney Island, Heath, is that it is entirely authentic and intact. The experience is pretty much exactly as you would imagine from the way it appears in the photo. It really is like walking onto an elaborate movie set. I wish I could find some interior shots of the '40's Deco bar portion. Ah ha! Should've gone to the source, I guess! http://www.coneyislandlunch.com/history.php5 | |||||
| The other thing to keep in | 2 Relevance | 11 years ago | gropius | General discussion | |
| The other thing to keep in mind is that 1stdibs tends to have things in really excellent condition. Not always, but having walked around a few shops that list on 1stdibs, I'd say the condition is much better than you'd find in the average antique/resale shop, let alone find in the average antique mall/flea market/yard sale. | |||||

| One more thing.... | 2 Relevance | 22 years ago | Olive | General discussion | |
| One more thing.... I have spent a TON of time lately looking at storage solutions as I've recently launched a business as a professional organizer. Shoe storage appears to be THE number one storage issue after clothes, in general, and mail/paperwork. There are lots and lots of solutions that aren't too expensive and that adapt well to all kinds of spaces. So Lawless, if you opt out of a custom-build, let me know and I'll post you some links to things. | |||||

| The PURPLE THING... | 2 Relevance | 18 years ago | DudeDah | General discussion | |
| The PURPLE THING... is only PART of my point. I guess I am beginning to struggle with "collecting". *DISCLAIMER*- this is merely my own opinion and I am not trying to say ANYTHING about ANYONE...that being said... I'm starting to get a little weird-ed out by the concept of collecting where the desire to HAVE ALL OF or have THE MOST OF trumps the subtlety of good taste. These purple shells are indicative of that concept...TO ME. And, DON'T GET ME WRONG, I LOVE a good GRAPE SODA every now and then. | |||||
