Like most of us in the US, I'm not impressed at electric boiling kettles. I fail to see the point if your gas stove (or should I call it a cooker) has a good flame. Finally, Revere Ware has been produced continuously since 1938, although the new ones are light weight and have plastic handles and knobs, unlike the original bakelite ones.

I basically needed a crane to get me out of it , the seat is so low it could be used as a toilet with a few modifications , I was disappointed as i have diamond chairs side chairs and high bar stools all made by knoll and i love them ,

| Hi all I love and own... Hi all I love and own every Betoia piece of furniture. So here are some little known tips. Orignial early diamond chairs had a black phosphate coating. I would never paint those models. Black phosphate was used on many metal items like machining tooling, washers, etc... It must have been the zinc coating of the 50s. Its not very corrosion resistant... but proves age, and old-old. It will not chip like paintand looks like the bare metal itself. Knoll powder coated chairs... sort of. Around 1970 they dipped them in that Rislan crap ... | |||||

My one issue with the Eames Lounge is the fact that it's such a typical icon...every modern home has to have one, and the fact that so many knockoffs are out there, I just thought I would instead get something a bit more visually different. Since Knoll no longer makes the Grasshopper chair and the fact that Modernica swears up and down that they've straightened the inner frame, I'd go for one.

| ... Claus is priceless. However, just because all of ones friends are paying 1.2 million dollars for a Warhol that might have been produce by an hourly worker employed by Andy doesn't necessarily make it a wise move. (Some of my friends do have Warhols and they look great) But one of the ongoing problems in the Warhol secondary market are issues of authenticity. Because there is no definable hand of the creator in the finished piece, forgeries and copies become an issue. Truly great art and auction sales bear this out, when a piece is one of a kind and created ... | |||||

| ... As a result the Advisory Committee on Utility Furniture was formed, with Gordon Russell as its consultant and two High Wycombe designers, H J. Cutler and Edwin Clinch, providing working drawings which were distributed to manufacturers. Utility furniture began to appear in 1943. It was considered too advanced by the furniture trade but too conservative by the intelligentsia, so Russell thought he had got it about right! It has since been appreciated for its functional, clean lines and has a specialist following. During the war the Americans continued to evol ... | |||||

| Copper can certainly be recycled. It's properties have made it a valuable addition to the palette of materials man builds with. Although mining is the necessary evil by means of which we obtain such materials, mining can be accomplished with differing degrees of responsibility. See Jared diamond's "Collapse" for some examples of both careful and careless mining practices, in various parts of the modern world. | |||||

| I love all the Bertoia line. ... I love all the Bertoia line. However, they are not for everybody. If you have the right body shape, they are great! I am 5"11" and 170 pounds, I fit in all of them well. I like the wide diamond a whole lot more than the small diamond. The small diamond is an upright, side type chair. Its good for a short sit, and is comfortable for a long sit as well. It is easy to move around for cleaning, a nice chair for the many tighter spaces. If you have the room, do get a wide diamond! Its got width for a large person, but maybe not ... | |||||

| Hey guys, Thanks for the... Hey guys, Thanks for the responses. They were very helpful. That's a good point about the lack of a headrest making the diamond more suitable for sitting upright. And I'm with you pete on favoring the diamond without the cover (not because it takes up less space though, just because I think it's considerably more attractive without the full cover). I think I may end up getting a bird with a full cover and a small diamond with the seat pad. Thanks again! Oh, wait -- another question -- I like it when these chairs have white sh ... | |||||

| I wouldn't consider the... I wouldn't consider the large diamond if you want head support, which I would. That is precisely why the bird is a slightly more popular sitting solution. The large diamond has one extra amenity that makes it more comfy than the small other than it's generous size .... it is not directly bolted to the base like the smaller version. It has rubber shockmounts, like that of an LCW, that gives it more give and a slight rocking motion (also contained on the Bird). All 3 chairs are comfortable ... for what they are intended for. The smal ... | |||||

The comment that came back to the owner is we are looking for something different than just modern furniture that you can buy at DWR. I was just floored if this home on the Water in Florida gets rejected in favor of some "couple " with junk furniture (wire Bertoia diamond chairs in the living room ) that they rescued from a local thrift shop and a ugly 50's ranch house, Now i know i can be critical and a lot of People do ...

I prefer the wealth of knowledge provided by this forum's regular contributors, as they have, on more than one occassion, found inaccuracies in many well known reference books. Anyways, here is a 1961 portrait of the happy family, with Harry and Charles side by side on a wire diamond and a dcm:

| They probably weren't being... They probably weren't being smart, I think it's just a coincidence. I have a friend with two side chairs with double wire that are original. It came with his house that he bought along with a diamond chair. The owner said the three chairs were bought at the same time, but the diamond is a single wire. I would guess they probably bought them in 51' but they still had leftover stock from the original two wire chairs with the side chair version. Just a guess. | |||||
